  1. I just saw a promo on KXAS within the past week that syndie Dateline will start in September at 1pm the same week as NBC News Daily starts up.
  2. Tim Ryan, the longtime Good Day co-anchor at KDFW, has announced his retirement from the station after 33 years. His last day will be August 26. https://www.fox4news.com/good-day/longtime-fox-4-anchor-tim-ryan-announces-retirement
  3. Dan, just wondering, which KDFW theme did you do, and when?
  4. Dan True, who spent many years as a weatherman at KFDA, has died. He was 97. https://www.newschannel10.com/2022/03/17/local-weather-legend-dan-true-dies-peacefully-surrounded-by-family/ https://www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/easternnewmexiconews/name/dan-true-obituary?id=33662672
  5. Finally an end to the dueling "weather experts" thing between KTVT ("Texas weather experts") and KXAS ("weather experts").
  6. Walt Howard's goodbye, introduction of his replacement, and an on-set reception which included the naming of KFDA's news studio as the "Walt Howard Studio". https://www.newschannel10.com/video/2022/01/14/walt-howard-final-show-newschannel/
  7. Looks like a big anniversary with time to fill. Since Matt went non-grata, and he was one of the longest-running hosts/anchors, the editors and producers will have to likely do a lot of editing. Besides Matt, it's pretty certain we won't see Tamron, Ann, or Megan Kelly. It would be nice to see Barbara again, if she were well and up and around, as she is really the last of the long-time anchors from the earlier years. As for those able to do in-person segments and distant interviews, we still have Bryant, Jane, Katie, Meredith, Deborah, and Kathie Lee. Hoda is back but Savannah has been distant for now, and they *still* have Dylan on maternity leave. Except for most-recent segments and clips, I guess they can trot out things that have been seen in previous anniversaries and other clip segments. In any event, it should be interesting to see what they do.
  8. After over 40 years anchoring and reporting at KFDA, Walt Howard has announced he will call it a day. https://www.newschannel10.com/2022/01/11/tx-panhandle-journalism-icon-walt-howard-retires-after-more-than-40-years-newschannel-10
  9. Just quick-glancing at the Rabbit Ears list, I would guess a new LP would have to crank up to return Circle to the market. The others already there seem to be set with ownership and subchannels/channel line-ups. ETA::: Didn't catch that both KWKB and KPXR have Laff. I guess, barring some kind of contractual situation, KWKB could replace its Laff subchannel with Circle.
  10. In a bit of where-are-they-now, veteran TV anchor Mike Landess (previously in Denver TV as well as KYTX in Tyler) has landed the news director position at a new public radio station in Tyler. (More in the Radio section link below.) https://forums.tvnewstalk.net/topic/18496-tyler-tx-new-public-radio-station/
  11. I wonder how non-O/O's will be affected. Currently KLTV and KTRE have network logos but they are tiny in comparison to the channel number, and not really graphically current compared to what comes from ABC directly. Here's what each station has had up to now.
  12. Hansen's announcement also covered in D Magazine: https://www.dmagazine.com/frontburner/2021/05/dale-hansen-is-retiring/
  13. The 2nd image is way too CNN-ish. There really wasn't anything wrong with the previous L3s and graphics.
  14. Nexstar tried "easttexasmatters.com" at KETK and KFXK for a while, but thankfully (and quietly) brought on the easier ketk.com and previous fox51.com domains instead in recent months.
  15. Longtime north TX TV/radio personality and early 1980s-era KDFW meteorologist Jocelyn White has passed. She was 68. https://dallas.culturemap.com/news/society/04-18-21-jocelyn-white-designing-texas-equest/
  16. Thanks for the update, I didn't think to look at his Twitter.
  17. KFDA weatherman Cameron Venable has announced his departure from the station. He'll be moving to Wichita, where he will get in some storm chasing. He didn't mention what station he'd end up at. https://www.newschannel10.com/2021/04/09/good-news-meteorologist-cameron-venable-embarks-new-career-journey/
  18. Meanwhile, KYTX's previous chief, Joel Barnes, reported on his Twitter that he didn't stay at KYTX. He will now be chief meteorologist at WBBJ in Jackson, TN, and get started in the next couple of weeks there.
  19. He also co-anchored at KAMR for a time. Sad news.
  20. Friday, KDFW marked reporter Shaun Rabb's 30 years with the station. Not many clips of Rabb with his now-trademark fedora, but they didn't let him finish the interview without his signature closing ("Fox 4 ..... News"). Congrats Shaun on 30 years. https://www.fox4news.com/video/875235
  21. Sad news from Amarillo, as former longtime KAMR weatherman Roy McCoy has passed away. He was 87. https://www.myhighplains.com/news/local-news/roy-mccoy-amarillo-forecasting-pioneer-dies-at-87/
  22. Earlier today I saw an FB post by Ashley Claster. She is saying that the DFW area is getting a Spectrum News 1 channel starting the middle of next month. So far I'm only finding more social media about it from her, although she claims another reporter has been hired to work with her. Her FB post shows a picture of Ashley holding a Spectrum News microphone. Her Twitter post shows a pic of Ashley holding a Spectrum News 1 cap and standing in front of the downtown Dallas skyline. I'd like to hope this is true, but her posts seem to be the only thing I'm finding about a DFW news channel launch.
  23. I remember back when KDFW was a CBS station, they'd buy up Dallas Cowboys tickets so there wouldn't be a blackout. Sometimes there was anyway; many with antennas would try to swivel them around to try to pick up KXII from Sherman, or even KLTV (back in their cherry-picking days) in Tyler.
  24. New D Magazine article online interviewing Perry Sook. I haven't read it yet to see if it's just fluffy or if it actually has some newsbits in it. https://www.dmagazine.com/business-economy/2020/05/d-ceos-may-2020-digital-edition-now-available/ ETA:::: Sorry, didn't realize the first link was an intro. This one takes you to it, but it's digital pages, not text (sorry again). Flip to "pages" 34-35. https://issuu.com/dceo/docs/dceo_0520
  25. Just checked, and the main page on WTHR's website shows their live link at the top of the page as the "Eyewitness News 13 Live Stream".
