  1. Not sure if this is worthy of its own thread (feel free to lock if not), but the Boston Marathon is moving to WCVB and ESPN beginning with next year's running. The other Hearst stations in New England (WMUR, WMTW and WPTZ) will simulcast WCVB's coverage of the race. https://www.wcvb.com/article/boston-marathon-new-broadcast-home-wcvb-channel-5-patriots-day-2023/40377262 https://espnpressroom.com/us/press-releases/2022/06/espn-and-wcvb-channel-5-named-exclusive-broadcast-partners-for-the-boston-marathon/ https://www.baa.org/espn-and-wcvb-channel-5-named-exclusive-broadcast-partners-boston-marathon
  2. Yes exactly. Plus in a market with only 3 news departments, their ratings are definitely better than some of their sister stations in bigger markets with more news departments, so that also has to play a factor in CBS keeping KDKA. It might not be necessarily. If Nexstar does what WPXI does with WPGH and keeps KDKA's newscasts on WPCW, then it wouldn't really be that hard to sell the station. If it can happen across the state in Philly (WPVI/WPHL), then why can't it happen in Pittsburgh?
  3. CBS is not giving up KDKA. Ever. Under any circumstances. I can never see that happening. That is one of their crown jewel stations and they value it. They aren't going to sell it. Now WPCW on the other hand? That is possibly a different story. If duops aren't CBS' thing and should they want to unload the CW O&Os (which would be a very tricky process), then it's not out of the realm of possibility that they sell WPCW to Nexstar. I don't think or know if it's all that likely, but the possibilty is there. And to your point, @Kenneth Kissel, Nexstar does own a bunch of stations surrounding the Pittsburgh market, so them having a presence here would only make sense.
  4. They can get a new newsroom (which they needed that too), yet they still have a set that dates back 15 years. How does that make any sense at all?
  5. As soon as today. It changed over some time this morning.
  6. It's not WBZ she's going to. It's WJZ in Baltimore. And @24994J, here is a link for you: https://www.viacomcbspressexpress.com/cbs-news-and-stations/releases/view?id=59448
  7. Ok a couple things with this. 1. Why is Denise anchoring this newscast? Doesn't she just do the 6pm? And 2. KDKA already does Pittsburgh Today Live at 9am (which is technically a lifestyle show), so I'm not sure why they'd start a 9am newscast when they already have a locally produced show that seems to be successful in that slot.
  8. That's stupid. Maybe since Wendy Williams got cancelled, they can move it to 11am. That would be the smart thing to do.
  9. Yeah I know, but they air it in the graveyard slot of 3am, so I was hoping maybe WTAE would pick it up and move it to 3pm.
  10. I was hoping Kelly Clarkson would replace Ellen on WTAE. I guess it won't.
  11. Holy hell. Took them long enough. They're about 25 years late, but it's about time lol.
  12. This doesn't surprise me and I actually seen this coming because I've been getting notifications from the KDKA app saying "FIRST ALERT WEATHER" on them. I even got one this morning when the NWS issued the winter storm watch. The execution and timing of it was perfect as we do have a modest winter storm coming, so I'll give them props for that. And the graphics do look really good. Although I do wish they used the lighter blue version of the logo that their sister station in San Francisco are using, but nevertheless, it does look good.
  13. They don't lol. The whole comic book, cartoon character look is really bad. The only graphics pacakge that actually looks somewhat decent is the college basketball package, even though the scoreboard is way too big.
  14. They actually debuted it during their winter storm coverage the night before, but it is a nice addition to the set. It's right next to the weather center where a touchscreen monitor once was.
  15. Looks like the CBSNs will be renamed on Monday based on that first screenshot. Is that confirmed or would that be just speculation?
  16. I have the same feeling about KDKA. I wouldn't be surprised if they do adopt this brand honestly, but I'm not sure how it would look or sound. They've been branded as either KDKA Weather or KDKA Local Weather since at least 05 or 06, and while the branding is simple, I've always felt like they needed a stronger branding for weather. And I don't know if First Alert Weather is the right brand for KD. I thought the same thing about the Pittsburgh stations, but WTAE took the bait sometime last year. I'm not sure when exactly.
  17. It seems like they are because KDKA has also added another hour of Saturday morning news at 10am.
  18. I agree that Access Hollywood was never the best fit for her. I feel like she's more of a hard news journalist, but NBC was trying to make her do more entertaintment and celebrity news instead of hard news like she was doing on TODAY as the newsreader.
  19. I get what you're saying. I do. And I'm all for trying something new and hoping it sticks. But I'll echo what @Adam MadMansaid. If this is something like what The Daily Show is, then it's just going to be a cheap gimmick. The only difference is that this show is airing on a local television station, not a show on a comedy network, where it would belong.
  20. Wow. Just when we thought WKYC couldn't get any worse. Ridiculous.
  21. Honestly, with the way her luck's going here, it wouldn't completely shock me lol. But as @Kenneth Kisselsaid, she's likely to go to WTAE when Ellen wraps things up.
  22. I agree with that. It probably wouldn't hurt to re-air the news at 12:30pm after Tomlin's press conference. But it isn't necessary beyond that.
  23. Yeah there's no need for that honestly. They already do that on CBSN Pittsburgh, and it should just stay there. No need for it to air on WPCW at the same time. I actually thought it was a live newscast.
  24. It was hers to lose. And that was the smart thing to do. But I'm wondering who's going to do traffic now. Will it be Matt Pellman or someone else?

    The "3" Thread

Yeah I noticed this the last time I went to Cleveland a little over a month ago, and besides the logo, the opens for the 6, 7 and 11pm newscasts look pretty good. The stingers also use this, and they look good too.
