1. They're going to replace it with a 2-hour version of their lifestyle show, 'Studio 512,' starting in October. Reruns of 'Studio 512' are airing till then. They didn't really give viewers much warning and folks on social are mad -- even though if you look at the ratings, that newscasts never really got more than a .3 or .4 .
2. This isn't going to end well for KUTV. Just look at what happened to the ratings for WWL's morning news when they were forced to move it over to WUPL to make room for "CBS This Morning."
3. The Lost Ogle has a pretty good summary of what happened: https://www.thelostogle.com/2018/07/18/lance-west-resigns-from-kfor-over-sexting-controversy/ Essentially someone tweeted out screengrabs and tagged KFOR in the tweets to make sure they were seen.
4. Oh, really? Anyone familiar with Minneapolis TV can tell you KSTP has been in the gutter since ... forever. Thus the neverending tweaks, including talent. Hello, Paul. OKC might have a little more wiggle room depending on how well KOCO did in any given book and how poorly KOKH may have done. If your idea of successful is fighting for 3rd or 4th place, local TV isn't for you.
5. From one last place station to another ...
6. KPRC/Houston dumps ThisTV for MeTV on Channel 2.2 starting tomorrow, 5/28. Hearing there is talk of adding a local newscast exclusively on MeTV in the future.
7. Crazy! Someone managed somehow, some way to briefly interrupt a newscast on KRIS/Corpus Christi last night. The screen went black, then you can hear some dude say, 'F--- it. Lick it. Smell it.' The anchor managed to recover and apologize faster than you'd expect in a market that size. No explanation yet. https://www.caller.com/story/news/2018/03/20/kris-broadcast-interrupted-vulgar-audio-viewers-react-social-media/441083002/
8. I'm shocked at how KCCI has essentially ignored this story, just hoping it goes away. The local paper did a fairly lengthy story. The Nexstar station in the market did one, too. It's gone viral, Hearst. Might wanna do something before your reputation takes a bigger hit than it already has.
9. Um, no. Website switched first thing this morning. Graphics and music debuted on their 11a 'Midday' newscast.
10. KVUE/Austin launched the new website AND the new graphics/music today.
11. Lead investigative reporter at Nexstar's KXAN/Austin walks ... http://tvradio.blog.austin360.com/2018/01/12/lead-investigative-reporter-brian-collister-departs-kxan/
12. Whoa. That's an INCREDIBLY blatant WSVN ripoff!!!
13. The tagouts are clumsy. They reference their website, ValleyCentral.com.
14. Yes. Have been for years. They even stole Eddie Flores from KRGV hoping for a boost. Clearly it didn't work.
15. New main anchor at KXAN, the Nexstar station in Austin. She comes from WKRC in Cincy ... http://tvradio.blog.austin360.com/2017/10/03/kxan-names-new-weeknight-anchor/
16. Beloved KTRK/Houston meteorologist Casey Curry (who famously hurt herself on live TV when she fell off a step hours after the station's new set debuted in 2015) is gone with no explanation. New hire Collin Myers had been expected, but no one knew who he was replacing till now. (Technically, Collin is taking over on weekend mornings for Elita Loresca, who slides into Casey's 11a and 4p timeslots.) http://mikemcguff.blogspot.com/2017/09/casey-curry-exits-ktrk-abc13.html
17. It's from a production house in San Antonio. They also do similar updates for KCWX in San Antonio.
18. BIG anchor shakeup at 11Alive in Atlanta. Shiba Russell goes from evenings back to mornings. Current morning anchor Cheryl Preheim takes her spot on the 5 and 6 and Vinnie Politan anchors the 11 solo. Seems a little ... odd. Shiba hasn't even been on the evening shows a year yet. They announced it on air this morning. http://www.11alive.com/home/news-anchors-are-switching-around-on-11alive-here-are-the-details-/460152963
19. The Texas bureau is up and running out of KXAN in Austin. It's been in operation for several months now.
20. The ND needs to be careful. Many reporters are hourly. Forcing someone who is hourly to do unpaid work off the clock -- such as setting the story up before walking in the door, etc. -- is illegal and companies, including some news outlets, have had to pay hefty fines before for doing so.
21. Nexstar appears to be getting closer to finally bringing its news operation in house at KWKT/Waco. (Right now it originates at the Nexstar station in Tyler.) They've hired Leslie Rangel, a reporter at sister Nexstar station KXAN in Austin, to serve as main anchor. Keep in mind they were supposed to be up and running in 2016, so they're just a little behind
22. The whole "Focused on family and community" line is clunky as hell but if they're gonna stick with it they should have that in the show opens instead of making the anchors say it.
23. Big ratings shakeup in Seattle. KIRO is now #1 in almost all the key spots. Looks like KING is paying the price for all the changes/cuts it has made.
24. Houston Fox O&O KRIV is adding an hour of local programming at 10 pm weeknights starting May 1. Both are roundtable shows and run for 30 minutes each. "Isiah Factor Uncensored" features reporter Isiah Carey and "What's Your Point?" is hosted by reporter Greg Groogan. Carey's show had been running pretty regularly on Friday nights at 9:30, while "What's Your Point" has been a featured segment within the station's other newscasts.
25. KRIV/Houston main anchor Melinda Spaulding just announced on social media that she's stepping down from the 5 and 9 p.m. newscasts to spend more time with her family.
