Alright people, I'm back, let's talk sports.
On 7/26/2022 at 3:24 PM, LoadStar said:That's actually a lot more than I thought, at least when based on the number of people who attended games in person.
Attendance did look paltry for the most part.. if the USFL has teams play in home cities next season, I can only wonder if that'll still be the case.
On 7/24/2022 at 8:43 PM, Action Newsroom said:Plans are finalizing for the 2023 season. New cities Las Vegas, Orlando and San Antonio join the list of eight franchises -- replacing L.A., NYC and Tampa. Kickoff is on February 18.
Orlando and San Antonio make sense... attendance numbers were strong when the AAF was in town (SA led the league, average of 27,721, Orlando nearing 20k).. Vegas sticks out though, with no stadium deal in place (would assume they'd try to stick a deal at Allegiant, I think Sam Boyd's out of the equation). Be interesting to see what happens next.

Wednesday Night Hockey brings a doubleheader most weeks and more varied match ups to promote the NHL stars.
Looking through the rest of the schedule, it looks like a lot of the non-Wednesday games during the week will be side-by-side productions by NBC RSNs (lots of Blackhawks, Flyers, Capitals and Sharks games on the schedule). Genius as a cost saving move by NBC but kinda flies in the face of the whole "more varied matchups" mantra that they're trying to promote.
They must be trying to keep the league happy at this point.. 2021 cannot come any faster.

Well I'll be damned.
This is what news COULD look like on WUPA in Atlanta. It's unclear if these videos are just online only and only to help add video content to WUPA's digital platforms, or if this is actually a test pilot for eventual on-air newscasts. I found this news piece that says it was produced from KTVT in Dallas/Fort Worth and has the Atlanta's CW 69 logo on it and some janky green lower 3rds that may have once been the O&O style but were butchered severely. The virtual set leaves a lot to be desired as well.

Man, that just looks like something straight from those fake medical news websites that randomly pop up trying to sell ya random medicines..

Also Lindsay Czarniak will be in Vegas with Pat Collins for Thursday’s Stanley Cup game.
Because it couldn't get any wilder in Vegas..

Finally!!!!
Also Ernie Anastos still lives on.
Keep f'ng that chicken.
It’s the midterm elections this fall. That is why they are doing this. After the elections, a lot of these newscasts will likely go away. They will not “fail”, they accomplished their mission to bring in political ad revenue. Previous “failed” newscasts in these time slots? Look closer, they probably happened during an election year.
It’s all about the money. It’s always about the money.
And that's the quote of the year, y'all. In a business where the revenue streams are slowly drying up on the local level, any means to milk the cow that is the political advertising season. After all...

Are they still using some now bastardized version of Look A?
Bastardized is the tip of the iceberg.
I think KTSM should be second now since KDBC/KFOX are probably in the dust.Still in the hole, but I've heard that they're catching up to 4/14 in the 5p hour.

A month late, but who else pays attention to the El Paso market other than I? Anywho, KTSM broke ground on a new facility. No word on when the building will be finished, but it's safe to say that we'll be stuck with Look A and Extreme for another few years.

Also despite WJZ loosing baseball to MASN they are still doing a one hour opening day special starting at 12:30 pm. The games are still on WJZ-FM 105.7.
Nats will be sticking around on WJFK as well, DCRTV reported earlier in the month that the now Entercom station and the Curly Dubs have agreed to a five-year extension.
Donna Hamilton’s been off the either all or part of last week and so far this week. Deborah Weiner has been the only one filling in. I think it may be safe to say she’s the heir apparent. You also could say she deserves it - she did weekends, now does the 10 PM, was the main anchor WBFF for five years (her bio lists starting their 1997 and joining WBAL in 2002, and has been with them for 16 years. As for Weiner, she's absolutely a good call if she is indeed the heir apparent to Hamilton. Will be a sad day when Hamilton signs off, but it does indeed seem that the future at TV-11 is bright.

Shocking news coming out of El Paso tonight as KVIA anchor Rick Cabrera announced on the radio he'll be leaving the station. The report from the Las Cruces Sun-News is here.
-
Seems like everyone's getting drones.. WFOX/WJAX first station in Jacksonville to get a drone, according to their Facebook.
-
DCRTV reports that WJZ reporter Christine Ileto will be leaving the station for Philadelphia's WPVI.
-
Speaking of DC, LiveWell is finally dead here. The subchannel was replaced by a sci-fi channel called "Comet," owned 50/50 by Sinclair and MGM.

Also WBAL has been using there Olympic logo for their newscasts, bugs during programming, station ID's and even a give away. Everything except Baltimore appears on air. During Ravens season we have purple Friday's and everything except the Olympic Rings turn to a translucent purple.
It's waaaaay too early for the Olympics logo to be tagged on anything.. The fact that NBC's been promoting the hell out of it since the start of the football season bothers me.

The Chuckster said no, least according to a phone interview with the New York Post. Barkley's got three years left on his current Turner/TNT deal.
