  1. I think Jake Tapper would be a good hire. I always thought that he should have gotten the "this week" job at ABC. However I do wonder if Taper's tenure at CNN has damaged him somewhat because of his tendency to troll/call out the Trump administration.
  2. Some updates from WGCL. They have fired their chief meteorologist Jim Kosek http://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2017/6/25/atlanta-weatherman-bounced they have also fired a Managing Editor, Producer, and operations manager http://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2017/6/23/more-sacked-at-troubled-meredith-station rumor is that current anchor Sharron Reid is pushing management to hire former WOIO News Director Doerr to be the new News Director at WGCL. Doerr, along with GM Bill Applegate, helped transform WOIO into a competitor in Cleveland (only for Raycom to dismantle everything for no real reason). Doerr and Reid have a history, Reid worked at WOIO under Doerr and he encouraged her to take part in a nude photo shoot for a story. http://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2017/6/28/someone-knocking-at-the-doerr-in-atlanta
  3. I don't understand why MSNBC hired Greta. She isn't a good broadcaster. Even during my previous life as a loyal Fox News watcher (I now turn to MSNBC for my cable news) I couldn't stand her. I found her annoying, her voice grating, her show sensationalist (focusing on Natalee Holloway for years), and her talking out of the corner of her mouth drives me crazy. As others have said, if they slowly introduced her to MSNBC audiences over time, ala Nicole Wallace, maybe Greta would have done better. But they introduced her way too quickly. I think she would have done better with a primetime show on weekends.
  4. This ratings dumpster fire is still a CBS station in a top ten market. That still makes it very valuable and profitable.
  5. WGCL is destined to be a revolving door for all eternity, there will never be any stability. The silver lining here is that hopefully the new ND will get rid of conspiracy theorist Ben Swann.
  6. I didn't realize the weather segments were in Toledo.
  7. ABC News goes to trial next week over its "pink slime" reports in 2012 http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/thr-esq/abc-news-braces-57-billion-pink-slime-trial-heart-trump-country-1009269
  8. I had a feeling this would ultimately happen. I believe all of the leaks and rumors over the past month were the two sides trying to get negotiating leverage.
  9. yes, it is poor Sinclair that the victim of a hit job. It's not hiring Trump surrogates to be commentators that's hurting Sinclair's reputation at all (one of them under FBI investigation mind you)
  10. Nexstar and Tegna have conflicts in Tampa, Portland(OR), Norfolk/Virginia Beach, Buffalo, Little Rock, Grand Rapids/Kalamazoo, Abilene, Knoxville, Austin, Tyler, Waco, and San Angelo. Would a combined company be allowed to keep both WHAG and WUSA? Also are their enough stations in Phoenix for a duopoly between KPNX and KASW?
  11. this is one of those situations where I'm not sure how to feel. Nexstar and Tegna are both terrible companies trying to do things as cheaply as possible. The only "good" thing that would come out of this is that Nexstar would stop producing those terrible Tegna talk shows and would drop that stupid "social media" centered newscasts from spreading beyond WTSP and KXTV

  13. ABC O&Os are on a hiring freeze at the moment http://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2017/5/21/exclusive-hiring-freeze-at-abc-oos (sidenote: I really like that ABC/Mickey Mouse hybrid logo)
  14. Sinclair's new Trump hire was on Bill Maher last Friday
  15. KJRH has some egg on its face http://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2017/5/18/scripps-station-drops-the-ball-on-big-story
  16. Lawrence has taken his frustration public http://thehill.com/homenews/media/333815-msnbcs-odonnell-takes-contract-negotiation-frustration-public
  17. I'm not Lawrence's biggest fan, but it would be stupid to get rid of him. He's getting high ratings and letting him go would create hysteria on the part of MSNBC's viewers because they'd view it as MSNBC being too afraid to stand up to the administration. I hope all this noise is simply a negotiating ploy
  18. Lawrence O'Donnell's future is uncertain http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/lawrence-odonnell-msnbc-future_us_59162d8ce4b00f308cf5534a?ncid=engmodushpmg00000004 I think letting Lawrence walk would be a huge mistake. Some liberals out there are already whining about MSNBC's shift from liberal commentating to centrist news reporting during daytime. Giving Nicole Wallace a show and letting Lawrence walk won't please MSNBC fans
  19. Not going to happen.
  20. trouble/drama at WGCL http://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2017/5/9/troubled-times-at-merediths-atlanta-station Meredith's complete lack of patience at WGCL is annoying. Just when it seems WGCL is showing some signs of life corporate decides to clean house. It doesn't help that (in my opinion) they are showing way too much news. There is no point for a station dead last in the market to air news a 4,5, and 6; especially when powerhouse WSB has news in those same timeslots. Also not helping things is the fact that WGCL's syndication lineup is garbage. 700 club at 9am; infomercial at 1pm; Inside Edition at 7pm; and Insider (soon to be cancelled) at 7:30pm, that's it. Why they don't move some programming (like Hot Bench and Crime Watch Daily) from WPCH to WGCL is beyond me.
  21. how could I forget about KFMB. Thank you
  22. WCAX says they are the last non-group CBS affiliate in the country. Is that true? if so it's a bittersweet day in local television http://www.wcax.com/story/35342251/wcax-sold-to-gray-television
  23. what happened at KNTV ?
  24. WXIA is launching a temporary 7pm newscast on sister station WATL. They are doing this in order to cash in on all the political ads for the special election for the 6th congressional district. http://radiotvtalk.blog.ajc.com/2017/05/03/11alive-adds-temporary-7-p-m-newscast-on-watl-tv-to-accommodate-ossoff-handel-political-ads/
