Tribune stations (KTLA, WGN America, AntennaTV) were blacked out about 2:10 PM on Spectrum Los Angeles. They're running a long pre-produced voiced anti-Tribune message.

It was so nice of Spectrum to wait and not pull the plug on Jan 1st....when KTLA (and a crapload of other Tribune stations) run

    the Rose Parade Live.

May the ghost of Hal Fishman and Stan Chambers haunt the Spectrum 1 newsroom.

  2. Did you see the new tactic Tribune is using against Spectrum???

...from the FOX 5 San Diego Website... and WJW has a similar vanity phone number...

    fox5dispute.thumb.JPG.c49c4ab2013067f6af813d3ad83b31db.JPG

    wjw.thumb.JPG.4bcbfd6ced3ac8a2c5e3aa0babdf9abc.JPG

A funny thing happens when you call that number. It ring into a Tribune answering center and give you a little message about how mean and nasty Spectrum is and  you should be mad they are depriving you of all that fine FOX 5 fare.

    But then...

"Please Stand-By while we transfer you to a Spectrum operator who is standing bye to take YOUR call...."

    WTF?

Tribune just pulled a "hot transfer / call forwarding" double back slap!

I'm sure If  Mrs C.Cutter was to wait on the line for that Spectrum operator they would both feel a bit awkward.

Spectrum must be digging that little trick, and look at the quick data you (Tribune) acquire just by making that call to that Tribune trap line. They must think you are more inclined to place your angry call thru a station friendly "vanity" phone number...as opposed to calling Spectrum directly...or providing the actual Spectrum customer service phone number.

    Tricky!

hard to take a news org seriously when they try to stretch the truth about what cities they are in...

KAAP has a construction permit issued that will take the signal farther away from the city than it already is...

    https://www.fcc.gov/media/radio/map-display#appid=2016934&call=KAAP-LD&contour=51&city=SANTA+CRUZ&state=CA&fileno=-0000054935&.map

would be more appropriate to say "san jose"... but that doesn't sound as cool..

And according to that map I would say San Jose is a generous statement. Not even remotely close to Santa Cruz and not even in Santa Cruz county.  The Santa Cruz Mountains block the signal to Santa Cruz. Sheesh!

But I have good news to all those news starved residents of Morgan Hill and Gilroy....

You're getting an All News Tee-Vee Channel !!!!

Happy News Year S.Santa Clara County.

  4. Oh my....Don Lemon is drunk again...

And this year Don spotted a former girlfriend in the bar where CNN is broadcasting from in NOLO...too funny.

    https://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2019/1/2/drunk-don-lemon-mistakes-reporter-for-old-college-girlfriend

Give Don another drink and another bump before he starts getting goo-goo eyed for Brooke..

    But wait!

Over on FOX News Channel a nice Hispanic woman was being interviewed by the trusty reporter  and it went something like this...

Reporter: "How do you want to start off the new year Miss???"

    Lady: "With a loan"...

Well I guess our reporter didn't understand what she really said and proceeded to gently rib her for the statement....

" A loan....." ha ha ha.....Toss back to Anchor Kennedy...

    "Brian" Kennedy interrupted...

" I think she said she wanted a lung....not a loan". (Oh shit here we go) It was quickly downhill from there.

Toss it back to Tyrus...and pray.

  5. Just in time for the end of the year...

    KUSI is now on Roku!

Now everyone can enjoy the old classic set, those favorite Grandpa and Grandma anchors...and a few pretty "nieces".

And who can forget that smell of Old Spice during every anchor toss.

You will also get to see Mark Mathis the twitter beat down king.

    Plus....

The ghost of John Coleman...and his extended 50 year climate change forecast.

Happy News Year from the McKinnons.

It time to reboot Captain Kangaroo and just place it at 7am on CBS.🤣🤣

Good luck getting the old captain to pass a background check and drug test.

And that Mr Green Jeans was last spotted "farming" in Humbolt county, California.

I bet if you let the captain have his cigars between cartoons.....

NewsNet just picked up two major-market affiliates.

One in Chicago, the other in San Francisco.

    Cough,Cough...

Calling KAAP "San Francisco" is what I would call really generous.

Like super, super generous...with a really big antenna on a super perfect day.

But maybe San Jose will have better results...and it's better than nothing at all.

    You are right...

He should have included a disclaimer that said you are easily offended, and  because of YOUR grumpiness you had "opted-out" of the nice thoughts department.

need I remind you you were never voted spokesman or press secretary on behalf of TVNT. We are all capable of speaking on our own to congratulate her. Just worry about yourself.

It was a nice gesture full of good intention.

    You get offended too easy...

Go sniff some pretty flowers and turn-off the cable tv politics....try a nice hot bath...or a drive thru the country on this nice fall day.

Or try some K-Pop for about 20mins a day...it's fun, and free of politics...and you don't even have to understand Korean to enjoy it.

Or you might want to connect with " a higher power".

    Chillax!

  12. Regardless of whether the incident was "real" or "fake," emergency crews still swarmed the area. People were freaking out. It was all over social media. You can't just ignore that. If people tune in and you aren't live, they'll find a station that is.

There used to be 4 unwritten rules in most newsrooms...

    You didn't cover bomb threats.

    You didn't cover suicides.

    No needles going into arms...

..and no nipples...translated in most newsrooms as the "no tits on TV" rule.

There were other regional 'rules" and accepted practices that encouraged responsible reporting, unlike this crap now days where a station will just report anything that farts.

My new favorite is a California Classic...

    "Suspicious Package Found "...

    Wonderful!

Block off the street, evacuate the block, lock down the schools....BREAKING NEWS Whoop Whoop!

While we get the bomb squad to neutralize some homeless guys stuff....sometimes they even use a water canon to blow the stuff up.

    Only in California...Oh the humanity.

  13. This original video was produced in '69, but the format definitely launched in '68.

I'm guessing WABC isn't accounting for leap years, which absent those would make the launch today.

This is an amazing BTS video - props to WABC for acknowledging their history, a practice damn few TV stations do these days.

This is full of so many little morsals that are now gone.

I noticed they said the film crew was...

A camera man, sound tech and an electrician.

So I asked grandpa shark "what was the electrician for?"

He said it was a "union thing..my little sharky..."

    He told me,

'The electrician handled all the batteries, lights and cables in the field during the news shoots."

    Besides he say's...

"They could fit all those fat union guys into those big giant Pontiac Catalina's."

Grandpa Shark is like 100 million years old...so he should know.

Noticed also they called the graphics "mattes". This was before electronic graphics were common for news use and everything was press-on letters on cardboard chips.

And those non-electric typewriters just perfect for throwing during drunken after show critiques. There was booze and porno in those desk drawers I promise you.

    Smoking, Smoking, Smoking!

    Hey kids...

Those black thingys on the desk were dial corded "telephones".

People used to die trying to use those phones when their fingers or hair would get caught in the dial...and chew them to bits... just like a wood chipper.

And what about that producer with the stopwatch...and a Manuel bank style adding machine (calculator).

WABC was highly criticized back then for it's style...

Now we would consider that approach somewhat boring and pretty unpolished.

    Honestly,

With all the film processing chemicals that leaked inside #77 it's amazing it's not an EPA superfund site...yet.

Let the new owners/developer find out that little secret on their own.

  14. No more 9pm newscast on KLAS-TV Las Vegas. Their 8.2 subchannel reverted back to the MeTV lineup for the hour.

A good indicator a station has zero long-term commitment to a "new" newscast...

    No outside promotion or ads.

    No billboards...

    No Bus ads...

    No outside radio...

    No newspapers...

    No commitment.

  15. KSNV sports anchor Randy Howe was arrested in North Las Vegas Tuesday on charges of indecent exposure and "open gross" lewdness. Howe was booked at the Las Vegas Detention Center, and was subsequently released on bail. KSNV representatives have so far declined comment on the matter.

Looks like he was playing with more than just the "one armed bandit"...Cops say he "whipped it out"...

    https://www.foxnews.com/us/las-vegas-sports-reporter-arrested-for-lewd-acts-at-bar-police

One employee told two responding officers they'd seen Howe walking to the restroom with his penis exposed, police said. Other employees reportedly told police it wasn’t the first time they’d seen Howe masturbate at the bar, according to the report.

    "Ewwwwww!"

    (emphasis mine)

So who is more prone to public lewdness?

The sports goons...or the weather geeks?

You would think some member here has this statistic handy.

  17. When you are getting paid over $5 million flying back and forth it shouldn’t be a big deal. Carson is only out the days The Voice is live - Monday and Tuesday. He take the red eye out for a Wednesday’s show. I’m sure if they wanted him to appear live they’d have him in the studios in LA.

During the live episodes of American Idol did Ryan Seacrest fly back and forth each night or a similar arrangement like Carson?

Edit: Earlier in this thread someone mentioned the commute Peter Alexander will have up to NYC.

First let me say this, I once asked a MSNBC contributor how they get to NYC after appear on Morning Joe and a show shortly after 1PM in NYC. They mostly fly up to JFK from DCA as it’s flight under 1 hour.

So for Peter I imagine he will do the same on Friday - attend a show production meeting via conference call, fly up in the afternoon, spend a night in the plushy hotel the guests stay at, do the show on Saturday and head back home around noon.

José Diaz-Balart likely does the same by flying out Noticiero Telemundo, and spend the days in production meetings, do NN and I’m not sure if he flys out Saturday night or Sunday.

You can catch a "shuttle" (DC-NYC) every half hour, but it's still flying, and flying anywhere is a pain in the ass...even for network snooty's.

So overly inflated ego's want the "private" company owned shuttle (ie:private jet) when they don't or can't make the regular shuttle.

Bop between DC and NYC daily or even a few times a week and it takes a toll on anyone. I sure as hell wouldn't do that trip nowadays, because flying anywhere is a giant pain in the ass. Even for the short hop to DC it still sucks worse when you get delayed and say to yourself...

"This flight used to take an hour before 9-11"

    Take my advice...take the train.

  18. Megyn has 69,000,000 reasons never to work again. She got more than the last laugh.

But what stumps me is that she split with her agent.

Her agent don't give a rats ass if she is a dingbat because he is getting at least 10% of that check...and all agents are weasels...worse than sales exec's.

I don't think she is a racist, I just think she never attended a good finishing school...and never spent time in the field or real world getting some street smarts.

    Just a Dingbat.

  19. And because of her inartful nature, the cynic in me starts thinking that she's trying to sabotage her own show. She couldn't and can't be that tone-deaf, FFS.

...and FOX comes to "rescue" her from mean old NBC, right about the time those contract "renewal" talks should start.

She just needs FOX to cooperate an take her back, because now that all those bad men are gone and dead, she should be safe to return....right?

You think she is cocky now?

    Just wait......

    EDIT: Roker wants her fired...

  20. In other words, as long as the ratings are sky high, it doesn't matter how much controversy comes up, that person will still be on the job AND will still appear on TV, apps, etc.

They knew what they were hiring when they hired him. The Mark Mathis job history was no deep secret at KUSI.

Did you know former KUSI reporter Rod Luck was married to the HR director of KUSI?

Rod Luck was fired by his ex- wife from KUSI when Rod was accused of domestic violence a few years back.

    The point is...

KUSI hires all kinds of wild and crazy people.

That's why KUSI is so much fun to watch.

  21. I’m at my limit for The New Yorker but they have an article titled “The Growth of Sinclair’s Conservative Media Empire”.

Here’s what Kyle Griffin (an MSNBC producer that you should follow for all the news of the day) tweeted out:

Edit: I copied this post from the Sinclair Broadcast Group - General Discussion to try my moderator powers and see how the copy post feature worked.

"Employees at MSNBC, , say that the company orders them to air biased political segments, and that it feeds interviewers questions intended to favor Democrats Brietbart reports."

See how that reads when you change the network and the political party?

    Just sayin'

  22. So in other words we have seen reporters losing their jobs over posts made on Social Media yet this Mark Mathis guy only gets a "slap on the wrist" and is STILL employed at KUSI? I see a double standard to this issue here

Most the on air talent at KUSI has a few DUI's or other felonies.

    https://www.sandiegoreader.com/weblogs/daily-crasher/2008/may/12/bad-luck/

Most have done stints in Juvie or San Quentin....Leavenworth...Folsom.

One female anchor carries a switchblade and brass knuckles.
