  1. You would be shocked if you knew how many stations don't have an operational delay system or chose not to use them. Follow the money...

Who is the one responsible for hitting the dump button?

    The Producer?

    The Director?

    The Audio/TD?

    The Intern?

We sure as hell know the Anchors were paying attention.

So "who" pushes the button...and monitors the conversations.

    You need an extra body.

    .".We can't afford more bodies."

But you are right, they should have NOT taken viewer calls. They poisoned their product by an avoidable accident. They let the viewer control the message.

The producer takes the hit on this one.

  2.

They are cutting those that make the most money from the recent M/A's.

Former "skilled" positions union OG's etc.

Some stations aquired were already cut to the bone, and needed a little loving. I bet KTNV-13 was a wreck.

The folks at Scripps made it pretty clear about cuts and philosophies to the staff when they took over KGTV. In San Diego it's been pretty diplomatic and up-front for most. They want their own 'People" calling the shots.

The MGH stations came in "heavy" for the Scripps formula/ideas. So "real" investigative units were cut and replaced with "investigators" that will help you locate your lost pet.

One 10-News "investigator" still thinks the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission is "part of the shopping mall police".

They want the experienced, high salary people to retire. Or re-up at a lower rate.

  3. WMAQ does not care if this happens. It's funny and silly when it does happen but NBC must consider it one of the cost of doing business.

NBC gets a free Stern promo...and we all get a school yard giggle.

If they really cared about preventing this stuff, they would have used the magical "delay systems" that radio stations first used 50 years ago.

Heck, KGTV-10 in San Diego had a working homebuilt 2inch Quad delay system as far back as 1974.

Any 6 year old can get past a call screener/intern.

  4. From: Rich Lieberman

KGO AM-810 News Director Deb Monroe leaving the radio station to become ND at KION CBS 46 in Salinas/Monterey/Santa Cruz.

After the destruction of KGO radio....some would say Monroe is actually moving up.

  5. Scripps in San Diego is about medicine and old philanthropy. Nobody coos when people mention Scripps and KGTV.

10-news never even adds a disclaimer when doing Scripps stories because the separation is so great.

    Scripps medicine= yummmmmm

    Scripps KGTV-10=Ugggggggggg

  6.

Scripps already said in an investor conference call (or whatever, it was on the SEC's website right before the Scripps/Journal merger took effect) that they weren't interested in participating in the spectrum auction at all.

They may have made that statement, but I doubt anyone believes that they have no interest. Every broadcast group has interest because anytime a giant pile of cash is on the table from the feds there is "interest."

Let's see how the award cap and rules gets adjusted, and then lets see if Scripps is still sitting on the side.

Now if the entire thing flops......anything is possible.

  7.

My guess is she will go to WCBS unless WABC takes her back to avoid a potential lawsuit.

Stations don't take people back to avoid lawsuits. You avoid lawsuits by vetting dismissals through legal first.

A WABC reporter is not a civil service postition.

  8. Lets see what happens now that the Incentive Auction list is out. Scripps (and others) will be looking at that quick and dirty "cash out".`

If Scripps is serious about putting digital first...than why wouldn't they cash out a few low rated stations and convert them to virtual 'stations" as part of the Grand Digi-Plan?

Let them be the pioneers, and let the gubmnt give them the operating cash for the big experiment.

The entire dynamic is about to "be" changed forever based on this upcoming auction.

  9.

I don't know about other markets, but in Kansas City I know that after KCTV won it from KSHB a few years ago, and for two years in a row at that, the two stations have actively "competed" to have the most accurate forecast at the end of the rating period.

In reading from the website, it looks like they use a top secret method to "rate" the stations. When a station wins...they have to pay to say they "won". There is no second place.

I think I will become WeatherRight.com and exploit all the 2nd and 3rd place stations.

if you are a MYTV or CW station I will sell you a purple "best of show" ribbon.

  10.

The timing is too coincidental. Seems a bit suspicious that they would all of a sudden promote the Weatherate seal and the "San Diego's Most Accurate forecast" crap in the days before their lead weather anchor was canned.

Tinfoil gold stars are a lot cheaper than talent.

Traditionaly in SD the WX folks were local celebs or radio people. Wx people in SD don't need fancy seals because there is no weather here.

The forecasters all use NWS / Nexrad San Diego Radar. Adding to things, it's really impossible to forecast outside of 48 hours due to the ocean influence.

I will miss Pat and Ashlee"D".

  11.

It looks like the management at NBC 7 San Diego decided not to continue their payment to WeatherRate and have lost the "Most Accurate Forecast" banner. KGTV ABC-10 is now boasting that they are the most accurate forecast in San Diego with a number of promos.

    Seriously???

After reading how this WeathRate works, all I have to say is "news consumer beware"!

I wonder if I can rate the local newscast with MY seal of approval with the same ruse.

  12.

Ashley did attend ASU and was a Cardinals cheerleader so it is a return "home" for her. She said she is going to KPHO (CBS-5) which also shares space (and talent) with KTVK (Ind-3), not KSAZ (FOX-10).

She is a good utility player, so she will continue to do well no matter what she does on-air. In her short time at 10-News she showed that she is more than just a wxmodel.

Pat Brown makes too much money, and KGTV has abandon legacy viewers.

The soul of KGTV is almost gone.

  13.

KGTV (ABC-San Diego) Military Reporter Bob Lawrence is retiring after 33 years at Channel 10. During this evenings broadcast, Bob is showing some of his favorite clips.

This seemed to come up quickly, unlike the month long farewell to another 30+ year veteran Bill Griffith. I wonder if there is a move to clean out the old timers and if so, is Kimberly Hunt next to announce a retirement?

Yes there is a move to cut cost. If you are an oldtimer at KGTV you will accept a pay-cut...or retire. It's NOT a secret at KGTV

Forget the on-air retirements. KGTV recently blew out a 30+ year assignment manager(B.M.) who really held the entire place together and was the longest serving AE in SD. They also pushed Managing Editor J.W. August out ...the GMs assistant 30 years...gone.

The saddist thing at 10-News is having to answer the phone calls from the little boys and girls asking how come they didnt see Sky-10 over thier school lockdown or wild fire.

"I'm sorry Johnny, but Sky-10 flew too close to the sun...and it's not comming back"....

    That is sad.

She hasn't left. Natasha is on maternity leave and Kimi is taking her place temporarily. The job posting a few weeks ago mentioned that they were looking for a temporary weather anchor for the morning show. This is not to say that Natasha won't/can't decide later on to leave the station, but for now she is on maternity leave.

KFMB is running promos that Evans is the new AM WX Model.. The anchors on the noon show Monday also stated that Evan was the "new" wx person

Based on those promos I would say Evans has that spot for good, since I rarely see that kind of promo effort for a fill-in/freelancer.

True she is expecting twins, and she also was just married last October. better yet her new hubby brought 2 more kids into the relationship.

There is a very delicately worded post from Jeff Zevley about the situation, but there is no mention of what her furture at KFMB is.

  15.

I don't think she was a freelancer at 6. She might be now, depending on what KFMB plans to do with the position.

She's been at KSWB for a few months now. Since Brad is on the morning shift probably for sweeps, Amy has been filling in. The biggest change was KSWB not using Kyle Hunter anymore to fill in.

Since Hunter had a knack for filing lawsuits I'm just wondering if that finally resolved one or both. Did he finally get a game show host gig?
  16. Amy Carabba from KMAX (Sacto) Morning show spotted on-air at KSWB (Wx Model) over the weekend. She also did a stint at Fox-5 KVVU a few years back.

That should get them talking on Engineer Rd.

  17. News from KFMB-CBS San Diego...

Natasha Stenbock gone from the KFMB morning show and replaced with Kimmi Evans who was at XETV-6 CW. Portions of Stenbocks bio remain on the KFMB Website. Noticed the change on Monday Morning May-4th 2015
