In West Michigan I don't believe they need a 4:30AM newscast in my opinion 5AM is when it should start.

I agree -- there aren't that many newsworthy things happening... Each half-hour is the same boring thing unless there is "breaking news or weather"

Wow, another new development from the "How can we fill the schedule with more hours of prerecorded programming?" Department...

Tonight, for Fox Weather Live, they did they 6pm and 7pm ET hours live from Studio A as usual, but then at 8pm, they moved to Studio W not for a fully-live show, but rather, for a live-to-tape show that would then re-air at 9pm ET. Tonight's live-to-tape show brought former host Nick Kosir back into a more involved role, as he was featured in studio for discussion segments (a la Weather Command) at both :20 and :50 past the hour.

    My take:

    1) Not happy about even more erosion of fully-live shows.

    2) If Nick being there for discussion segments is the new normal, I'm fine with that. He thrives at discussion segments, same way he thrives at reporting on fun segments in the field, and it would be cool to have him back on his old show with Marissa in this new capacity (with Steve in the middle).

    3) If this live-to-tape thing is permanent for the 8pm and 9pm ET hours, then it's time to ditch the Fox Weather Live moniker for those hours, and they should revive the Fox Weather @ Night branding for this show instead.

Side note: The fully-live editions of Fox Weather Live at 6pm and 7pm ET now use the daytime graphics that are used on the weekend morning version of the show, while the live-to-tape editions of Fox Weather Live at 8pm and 9pm ET retain the nighttime graphics. I assume that will change back to the all-nighttime motif as we head into the fall/winter.

What I also find funny is that with all his extra free time, I see Nick on Tik Tok more than I see him on Fox Weather....

  3. KTXL Chief Meteorologist Kristina Werner is no longer at the station.  By the sound of her tweet, it wasn't her choice.  She was given no on-air goodbye (She was there 23+ years).  Adam Epstein is now the new chief.

While that’s true, I don’t see any other way that they could’ve addressed the problems in that newsroom, given that some at the station already tried addressing their concerns to corporate (at least, according to Matthew Keys).

I understand that Nexstar has the legal right to fire them for publicizing that memo, and I suppose it’s not in the company’s interest to employ people who can’t be trusted with internal info. However, I think Nexstar also has a practical obligation to address the concerns that led to such a leak happening in the first place.

I'm trying to remember from which source(s) I'm referring to, but this started with Tang, then to GM Julie Brinks, then to 2 different levels of HR at Nexstar... So as far as I'm concenred, they had every right to publicize this... Granted, I'm sure they had clauses in their contracts or company policies barring them from doing this.. but man oh man did this hurt WOOD-TV bad...

I was surprised that the leakers were outed I thought they wouldn't be outed for sending the memo to media websites.

The 2 producers definitely should not have been let go.. Tang and Fox definitely needed to go

An update from WOOD-TV: Employees of the station have been complaining to Nexstar higher ups about bullying, harassment, and racism from the station’s news director, Stanton Tang, for months. The anonymous employees also state that many have been overworked, and the constant burnout has led to people taking multiple personal days or leaving the station entirely. WOOD-TV staff informed Nexstar corporate about Tang’s behavior, but their complaints were ignored.

Furthermore, regarding the pride memo, Tang apparently instructed assistant ND Amy Fox to write the memo on his behalf. It is also allegedly not the first time Tang has used his personal politics to sway WOOD-TV’s news coverage.

This is so frustrating... WOOD-TV has had such a legacy in this market... Makes me wonder if he wanted to screw them over... I am a personal friend of 2 of the meteorologists there and they've been so frustrated by him since day 1...

Stadium also airs Minor League Baseball Wed, Sat, & Sun I'm guessing that WXSP will have to find something new on .2 channel 178 on Spectrum in Kazoo whenever the White Sox & Bulls owner takes over soon. WXMI Fox17 Kids Club Miranda was the face of Fox17 before their was a 10PM News in Jan 1999 and the show was Fast Forward I watched that from time to time Sat at 12PM. I met Miranda at Kalamazoo County Fair in summer of 91 she was handing out Garfield bookmarks going into the fair.

Miranda now works for Wood TV since 2005 or 2006 has a segment on 8 West Miranda Where You Live which was 30 minute show for many years on the weekends did daily for 2 or 3 years but Nexstar just cut to the final 10 minutes of 8 West in 2020 or 2021.

Maranda actually joined WOOD-TV in 2001!

  8. I grew up in Dorr -- half way between Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo.  Before cable/satelitte came our way, I could always get WOOD-TV by antenna no problem.  WZZM I got 90% of the time.  WWMT I had a very hard time to get...

Kalamzoo/Battle Creek is one of those "sub-markets" were they can be serviced by a number of larger markets surrounding them... That's why I'm shocked to see WWMT at #2... Although I do see that WZZM and WWMT are struggling to find decent talent for mornings and evenings... The only name I recognize at WZZM now is Juliet Dragos and George Lessens... WWMT I only recognize Chief Met Keith Thompson... But I am curious to see if Byron can pull WZZM out of their rut.. I know in the early 2000s, they seemed to be giving WOOD-TV a run for their money...

Was WWMT beating WZZM under the current ownership?

IF they were, they won't be for much longer... WWMT is now down to 8 people I think? Christina Anthony left in November and they most likely won't replace her... Chief Keith Thompson is all over the place filling in... They have 2-3 reporters and focus way too much on Kalamazoo/Battle Creek for any GR viewers to care...

My dream wish would be for Hearst to pick up WZZM somehow...

Allen Media has a long way to go to decent respectability.   Owning the Weather Channel is a good start, but the bottom line is Allen Media (and Entertainment Studios) are the slumlords of daytime TV with all of their cheap "court" shows.

When I think Byron Allen, I think of his Entertainment Studios show from years ago that would be on before the morning news.  And those shows were meh at best.. So to consider him a top rate broadcaster would take some time...
