They might not be THAT quick—mornings feel like it’ll fall in place by May at the latest—but they’re building this out at a rather steady pace and experimenting with likely talent pairings.

You may say that... but at least so far, WWJ has debuted one new newscast every week.

First... launch on January 23rd with weeknight 6 and 11pm news, then exactly a week later on January 30th with hour-long weeknight 5pm news. Now, the February 6th launch of hour-long 4pm news.

I wouldn't be surprised if Noon launches the week after that, then weekend evenings after that, then weekday mornings and finally weekend mornings. Also, if this is done within a four-week span, then they would have its full schedule by March, if that one post that said about that timeline is true.

The new local station trend is apparently being on at ANYtime someone wakes up, and just continue into the noon newscast. Basically 4am-1pm. Who knows, 3:30 am might be the next frontier. WPLG Miami is the most extreeme I've seen with a 1am newscast. I wonder if it's shot live or pre-recorded?

KTLA goes an hour further, 4am-2pm.

Also, I live in South Florida. That "1am newscast" is actually a repeat of their 11pm news, just like how WFOR and WTVJ repeat their 11pm newscasts just after 1:35am, while WSVN has their 11pm news repeat at 12:30 and 4:30am.

The new logo for WTOK-TV 11's "WTOK 11 NEWS" has a strong resemblance to fellow Gray-owned ABC affiliate WBAY-TV 2's "ACTION 2 NEWS" logo...

They go by WTOK News 11.

  4. 15 and a half hours. That's how many hours of news KTLA would air every single weekday if this goes through. 4AM-2PM, 3-7, and 10-11:35PM.

The only other outlets in the Southland that do more hours of news than KTLA every weekday... is KNX News - 97.1 FM. KTLA would actually TIE (yes, your hearing this right) Spectrum News 1 SoCal for the second-most local hours of news every weekday on either radio or TV (SN1 SoCal is on 5AM-7PM plus half-hour installments at 9:30pm, 12 Midnight and 1:00am. They air other stuff during other hours like L.A. Times TodayL.A. Stories, etc. Yes, I did check the schedule myself.).

At this point, stick with KCAL. CBS in LA=entertainment, sports or national news (the only thing that cares about KCBS-FM's calls is the PPM as it's 'Jack FM' to a normal person). KCBS may have been there longer, but KCAL has established themselves as a news brand.

This. This is exactly why CBS Los Angeles did what they did.

So, one week down, and it looks like The Streamable had a little bit of an incorrect scoop. Weather Command actually does feature Ian Oliver alongside Amy Freeze five days a week (he's even featured prominently in the show's promo, so pretty confident this is permanent). I'm wondering if the original concept of the show was an Amy Freeze solo show, and they made changes to it after they gave the scoop to The Streamable.

Turns out that America's Weather Center is not a 3-host show. Michael Estime is the Mon-Wed host, and Craig Herrera is the Thu-Fri host. I assume Kendall Smith is there Mon-Fri, but this week was a bit of a mess, as Kendall only worked Monday this week and was out the whole rest of the week.

Stephen Morgan was also out the full week, but either way, I *think* we can confidently say that Stephen and Kendall will not be hosting Fox Weather @ Night together, because the show is pre-recorded during the late afternoon hours, and with them both being on separate live shifts now, there would not be a convenient timeslot where they could record the show together. They way they did things this week is that whoever hosted Across America also hosted Fox Weather @ Night. It stands to reason that they'll keep this the same going forward.

From watching today, the new weekend lineup is:

*6:00-10:00am ET: Fox Weather First Weekend - anchored by Craig Herrera and Jane Minar

*10:00am ET-2:00pm ET: Fox Weather Live - anchored by Kiyana Lewis and Michael Estime (replaces the America's Weather Weekend title)

These are the first permanent hosting roles for Jane and Michael, as they were previously floaters who would fill in on any timeslot, any day of the week. What's interesting is that both weekend male hosts have regular weekday timeslots, splitting the week on America's Weather Center; however, both weekend female hosts appear to not have a regular weekday slot, likely meaning that they will both be used as primary fill-ins during the week. I know Kiyana Lewis filled in for Stephen Morgan on Across America and Fox Weather @ Night Monday-Wednesday. (Previously, all male and female weekend hosts had regular weekday slots on Sky Dome (Lewis/Bender Mon-Tue & Freeze/Herrera Wed-Fri).

Looks like Nick Kosir is the odd man out as the only NYC-based OCM without any regularly-scheduled hosting role. During this past week, he only appeared Monday doing live hits at an indoor skiing/snowboarding park and Tuesday doing live hits at an ice skating rink, both in the NYC area. With all of the severe weather taking place this week, and with both Morgan and Smith out this week, they leaned heavily on Kiaya Lewis plus their Orlando-based team (Katie Garner and Kelly Costa) to fill in.

On Friday, the on-air staff was so depleted that Steve Bender pulled a double shift (co-hosting all of Across America and Fox Weather Live, plus solo-hosting Fox Weather @ Night), while Ian Oliver and Kelly Costa both pulled 1.5 shifts (Oliver co-hosting all of Weather Command plus the first half of America's Weather Center / Costa co-hosting the second half of America's Weather Center and all of Across America), just to get through the broadcast day. No appearance of Nick Kosir at all in the studio all week, despite the shorthandedness. Curious to see what his on-air role looks like going forward.

I thought Jane had a significant part in the weekday edition of FOX Weather First (and Sunrise beforehand).

PAX wasn't really even that great of a network. You can get the same comparable programming from Hallmark and other "family-friendly" channels now. The only thing PAX had going for it, IMHO, was Supermarket Sweep and Candid Camera. Aside from that, wasn't much of their dramas Canadian produced anyway? And it was never going to contend with the other networks with the amount of infomercials it ran.

And Shop 'Til You Drop. I didn't mind that one either.

I tuned in during the 5am ET/4am CT hour today, and they were still airing Night Light.

The Roku Channel has since updated its schedule for FOX Weather to include that Night Light does air at 5am.

Effective today, the 6am-10am ET weekend show has been renamed to "Fox Weather FIRST Weekend". The 10am-2pm ET show retains the "America's Weather Weekend" branding.

This shift in the morning show names appears to be a corporate move to get their branding in line with FNC's morning shows. From looking at the logo design, the "FIRST" is similar to, but not exactly the same as, the Fox & Friends FIRST logo. Similarly, the "Weekend" part of the logo seems to take after the Fox & Friends Weekend logo.

Looks like a schedule change went into effect today. I see that Sky Dome is on the air as of the 9am ET hour, when it previously started at 10am ET.

I'm wondering what else may have changed. My hunch is that they might have moved the start time of all shows up, so that the live programming day might end earlier again. I guess we'll have to see throughout the day.

I see the schedule like this, according to The Roku Channel...

05:00-09:00 AM: FOX Weather First (the new name of the morning program to replace Sunrise)

    9:00AM-12:00PM: FOX Weather SkyDome

    12:00-04:00 PM: America's WeatherCenter

04:00-07:00 PM: FOX Weather Across America

    07:00-10:00 PM: America's Weather NOW

    10:00PM-1:00AM: America's Weather TONIGHT/FOX Weather LIVE

    01:00-05:00 AM: Night Light

TL;DR - It looks like they've added another hour of live weather coverage, renamed its morning program, moving its midday program to essentially late mornings, and added another hour of America's Weather Center. Other than that, all is the same.

Aw man! She's held through and through. But 25 at WTVT, and a lot longer in the business. God damn she's gonna be very missed.

No answer on that one, but I Hope they’re doing better than ever. If they are, maybe there’s potential for WOIO in Cleveland to rename itself as WONF, Ohio News First, and potential for WXIX in Cincinnati to rename Themselves as WCNF, Cincinnati News First.

Don't get carried too away. They'll only do this on their flagship market so that this sucker can succeed. Also, WXIX is #1 in Cincinnati. Why change that?

That's a clean look. Very nice for Maine and a small market, I bet they're happy.

Medium market you meant. Portland (Maine) is like only DMA #78 from last year's rankings so don't call it small by any means.

Speaking of WSVN..can't forget their "NightTeam" branding. Their opens go with 7 News at 10/11pm, but I don't have nearly enough fingers and toes to count how many times the word NightTeam is used on their late newscasts. Also, the reports tag out as "Live in Hallandale Beach, Joe Blow, 7 News NightTeam,"

True but WHDH and WJAR also use that.

Another specialty name that WBRZ has used (and, IINM, they still use this today): 2une In (for the morning edition).

Speaking of WBRZ, when it had the Eyewitness News name, their 10pm news was known as... the Nightdesk. I'm not even kidding.
