  1. ftvlive is reporting that KPNX weekend meteorologist Dr Matt Pace and KPNX Chief Investigative Reporter Wendy Halloran have been let go from the station. I thought Dr Matt Price was a solid meteorologist (although recently he had been copying James Quinones' lingo which sounds silly). Oh yes, and KPNX has replaced Dr Matt Pace with former Fox 10 reporter Kristen Keough, starting tomorrow.
  2. Good point. KSAZ does have a stable anchor team in the evenings. I just wish they would find a higher profile role for Linda Williams. She seems so underused on the station. KPNX has gone downhill dramatically over the past decade. They seriously underuse Brahm Resnick, one of the better journalists at the station. KTVK has improved over the years. GMAZ is newsier than it was a decade ago, when it was virtually unwatchable. Nicole Crites, Brandon Lee, and Heather Moore are solid in the evenings (although I bet the ratings are still not great). KPHO is still trying to find itself in the mornings with Wake-Up Arizona, which is fluffier than GMAZ if that is possible. Sean and Kris are decent in the evenings. I'm surprised that there is still overlap in the newscast times between KTVK and KPHO, which leads to some pre-recorded reports on the newscast's top stories (a single reporter can't do two live shots at the exact same time). KNXV has a generally appealing newscast. I just wish they would tone down the hype a bit. It just gets annoying after a while. They tend to very newsy but overly sensational.
  3. Wow! I was just in Seattle visiting and was looking at KIRO's website. I noticed Chris' name and remarked that he's been there "forever". Really sorry to hear about this! Sending thoughts and prayers to his family and friends. Thanks to Chris for 30+ years of solid reporting! We need more journalists as dedicated as him.
  4. Yep. He was definitely underused in Phoenix. Any ideas who will replace him Phoenix? Paul Horton?
  5. Kim Covington, former weekend and noon anchor, has left KPNX in Phoenix. On her Facebook page, she mentions that she is starting her own consulting firm. Meg Coyle, weekend morning anchor, has left KING in Seattle for a job at Amazon, according to her Facebook page.
  6. I'm sure she was not re-signed. She had been there 5.5 years and probably had a standard 5-year contract, which KIRO chose not to renew. It's too bad but she was never very popular in the Seattle market (i.e. my family would say, "Angela WHO?" when I asked about how she was doing!)
  7. Yes, sadly, Angela Russell never really caught on in Seattle. During a visit at Thanksgiving, I noted that they had added Monique Ming Laven to the early evening newscasts -- so this move was just a matter of time.
  8. I would definitely add Jean Enersen at KING to this list (With 42 years at the primary evening anchor, Jean is/was KING's Queen).
  9. Well, I'm not totally surprised since we had that incident where Colla's bio disappeared off the KNXV website a couple of months ago (it magically reappeared the following day). The good news is that KNXV has a potential replacement hidden in plain sight (i.e. currently anchoring The Now @ 4). So, I wonder if Yetta Gibson slides into the morning anchor position to replace Connie. Phoenix has had QUITE a week -- 2 morning anchors and 1 evening anchor departing.
  10. This is really sad. Kaley is one of the key players on GMAZ...and Carey Pena was the main female evening anchor. While CBS 5 News is decent, I just haven't warmed up to their news team over the years. Futhermore, GMAZ is a top-rated newscast in Phoenix, is Murray just willing to give that up? Hasn't former Good Morning Arizona anchor Tara Hitchcock been doing some weekly segments for KPHO? Perhaps Tara comes back to GMAZ? It could make sense if she anchored from 7am to 10am for the less newsy part of GMAZ. As some have suggested, we may see CBS 5's team from 4:30-7am (simulcast on KPHO and KTVK) and GMAZ on KTVK from 7am to 10am. I'm waiting for them to rebrand the news to something like "Arizona News Now". You could have "Arizona News Now on CBS 5" and "Arizona News Now on 3TV".
  11. tvspy is reporting that Carey Pena is leaving KTVK because she could not come to a suitable contract agreement with management. This is probably a result of the sale of KTVK to Meredith and the large combined news staff, many of which may not needed in a combined news organization.
  12. I agree with Raymie -- there really is no place for him in Phoenix right now. KTVK/KPHO is full. ABC15 seems happy with Steve Irwin. Fox 10 has a bunch of senior people. KPNX seems happy with Mark Curtis. No room in Phoenix at all...
  13. A third consideration is that Joe may want to cut bank his anchoring and/or retire in the not-so-distant future. So, hiring Dash means that they will have a replaement when and if Joe decides to leave.
