MI News 26 Founder Starting National News Network

You're entitled to your opinion. Just remember why ordinary folks are bashing and second guessing the media... because they're injecting careless and opinions to fit their narrative. Just like what you're doing. -
MI News 26 Founder Starting National News Network

And how does this worthless comment have anything to do with television news? Hope you feel vindicated. -
CNN is still on television, color me shocked! First time tuning to their channel in the past little while, and it's so refreshing to see such objective, non-biased reporting in their chyrons. (rolls eyes) Doesn't matter what your politics are, if you care anything about this business, you should realize how bad this looks towards the profession. Report without bias first, ask questions later, and share opinions late at night.

Not to stick my head in, but I think it's an important note that was made by the original user's post. First before you or anyone else attacks me for my opinion, my true profound thoughts are with the tri-state area, and our entire country and World as we suffer through this unthinkable disaster. We will overcome and we will become stronger from this as a nation. However, it is very important to note that this is a valid point. CNN and Jeff Zucker love to sensationalize the story. Think about "The Boy Who Cried Wolf." This is exactly what CNN, along with all of the other cable news channels, have been doing for the past few years. Credibility has been thrown out of the window, and now if this is true, some people will be skeptical about it. Put it into perspective - many local news personalities (WABC, WCBS, etc) have been diagnosed and tragically died from this disease. Nobody would ever think they would make up a false case for their talent, because as we all know, local news is trustworthy and has credibility. The difference is cable vs. local, and the credibility issue is a very valid point. Stay safe and stay home!

Random question, not sure if this is the right place to post. When it comes to 30 Rock's NBC operations, I noticed there's no satellite dishes on the top of the building, just the doppler. Is everything fibered or microwaved in from another location? I noticed CNBC in New Jersey has quite the dish farm at their facilities, maybe microwaved in from there? Many thanks.

First of all, my thoughts and prayers to everyone in Nashville killed and impacted by the tornadoes. WTVF's Sky 5 chopper (N5TV) is based out of the John Tune Airport (JWN). That airport was severely impacted and took a direct hit by the tornadoes. NC5 was airing live footage from a chopper earlier today, courtesy of handheld video shot from the door of a Chopper. According to FlightAware, this was not N5TV their chopper. N90CL was shuttled from St. Louis to Nashville this afternoon and is now providing live footage for WTVF. Might be safe to say either Sky 5 is damaged, or inaccessible.

Great work for the list, that's awesome! Thank you for it. One clarification. KTTV and KCBS/KCAL share 1 chopper both in the morning and evening, so only 1 is flying at a time for them. KTTV has Rick Dickert up for their morning show, while KCBS is using the feed from the same chopper for their morning show. In the evening, Stu Mundel for KCBS is up there, while KTTV is just using the feed from the same chopper. N12YJ is the back up for all ACA, usually KTLA. N61HL also needs to be added for ACA as a backup. Sorry, I edited my original post to show ACA info above.

Helinet: N71HD is KABC's main Air 7 HD since 2005, with the branding scheme. It is not used by any other station for video feed or on-air reporting. This ship has the Shotover camera for the MapTracking system. Helinet, the provider for KABC/KCBS/KCAL/KTTV/KMEX always flip flops whatever backup choppers they have, as needed. N828AP is one of Helinet's newest A-Stars, and that is now used as the primary backup ship for KABC. It was the first to have the call sign taken off of the online tracking servers. N828AP is in a black color scheme, and is occasionally used for outside production purposes. KABC also has their old original 1995 "Air 7" N67TV, which is in the grey paint scheme. Since N828AP has been in use, N67TV has been used as a backup for all of the Helinet stations, as well as outside production purposes. In the photo KABC posted 5 years ago, N67TV is seen on the right hand side. Those KABC logos are never on there. N111FN and N211FN used to be the sold KTTV ships. N111FN was destroyed at VNY a few years back. Now, it's a toss up between whatever is flying. KTTV in the morning can use N211FN or N29HD with Rick Dickert reporting. KCBS/KCAL with Stu Mundel uses the same ship usually in the evening for their reports. N29HD is the preferred ship, as it has the "Shotover" camera which allows for the MapTracking. As for N29FX, that's also a backup ship used by whoever. It's the oldest A-Star in the fleet, so just used when needed. Welk Aviation formerly Angel City Air: KTLA uses N925TV, which was recently repainted in a blue paint scheme, similar branding look to their news trucks. In recent times, KTLA's primary backup is N12YJ. N12YJ is unbranded and is unique because the camera controls are "shotgun" up front with the pilot, not in the backseat. Both choppers are based out of Pacoima. KNBC uses N358TV as News Chopper 4 Alpha and it's based out of Pacoima. KNBC News Chopper 4 Bravo is based out of Fullerton base, and it's normally N29LW. This chopper is unbranded. Welk Aviation used to have N1231A also as a backup, but it's being used by NBC in Boston. Last but not least, N61HL is still around (the former Sky 9 bird) and it's used as an unbranded spare for Welk Aviation. You can log onto http://www.adsbexchange.com/ and see all of the tail numbers un-blocked, when they're flying.

KTLA's Sky 5 helicopter N925TV has been out for the past couple of weeks getting refurbishments. She's back now to match all of the KTLA fleet vehicles and branding, looking bright blue!

Unlike others who seem to hate living in this country, I personally think that playing the national anthem is a welcome sight on television. We should be proud for the freedoms that we have living in the United States of America, and we shouldn't be afraid to show it for a few moments during the broadcast day. I doubt those of you who are opposed to this will even be watching television during the time the anthem plays. We'll see if any other broadcasters follow suit!

Partial footage of the landing from KGTV:

According to Deb Henke, it was Jo Eager that was inside the Chopper when it crashed and not Markham.

"Chopper 8" was the lead in story on the top of the 5 on KFMB. They had a live reporter out there, who said the Chopper had a "rough landing on the runway" and then had a small fire which was quickly extinguished. I didn't see any fire damage from any of the photos, so who knows. After the report was done, Carlo made sure to read the disclaimer saying that although all of their logos are on it, it's a third party Chopper shared by all TV stations. He continued by saying the pilot and passenger on board are not KFMB employees, but they're friends and their thoughts go out to them. Pretty much everything that was stated in the online story was copy and pasted into the telepromter.

All the usual jokes aside about Chopper 8, I am very glad that everyone is alive and will recover from this. However, I wonder what will happen from here on out? Is the Chopper still in the works with Welk Aviation/ACA in Pacoima, would they send down the A-Star like before? I am sure the local news chopper agreement is still in place, and they must provide a Chopper for all outlets? Who knows, maybe this is the final straw for 8? For any of you fellow AvGeeks out there, here is the data from the last flight 218GH had. https://www.flightradar24.com/data/aircraft/n218gh#21de1bb6
-
Why would he return to KFMB when he had a "not so ceremonious" exit? Seems likely to me he's talking about turmoil going on inside one of the newsrooms here and him not making a return to television. He's thrown in the towel on meteorology reporting.

You must be fun at parties.

So are they only connected to the Soledad site for the Chopper? I thought they had multiple "uplink" mountain sites, looks like up even in LA?
-
She is up there, you can tell because the camera work is so horrible. I'm sure there is more of a reason they hired Jenny, but I have a feeling it's also due to how clueless Markham is up in the Chopper. I remember there was a short pursuit on the 11AM a year back, CBS was carrying it live. It was in the SDSU MidCity area, and Markham was a train wreck narrating up there. I recall Dan Cohen asking her where she was, she literally said she had no idea. Long pauses, sounded very frustrated and very unprepared for what was going on. Poor Chopper 8 yesterday, could barely keep up with the car going at freeway speeds... chugga chugga!! Signal crapped out when they reached the Lake Hodges area on the 15, causing Fox 5 scramble and cut to break. When the signal was present, looked like it was being transmitted from the Chopper using some LiveU unit, pixilated cellular like quality. I'm sure this is due to the amount of times the video is processed and scrambled down the line? Was very pathetic, yet entertaining to watch. Where's NewsChopper/SkyRanger 7 Alpha/Bravo? Come on NBC... (if City got a R44 then we have no excuses for SAN...)

Tegna and KFMB are seeking your help to pay the bills next month. Only $2900 bucks to own a piece of Midwest Broadcasting history! Just imagine the number of reporters and photographers who have graced the presence of this E250! Gently used, clean, low mileage, no breakdowns, and full of the latest CRT and analog technology! Please, let's make sure that Barbara Lee isn't living in her car on Engineer Road next month. Thank you for your generosity for this worthy cause, and together we can prove that #TegnaCares.

It's C-FNPQ, a R44 naturally. Former recent CIII-TV Global News chopper, as well as previously for sister Corus radio station AM640 CFMJ, and further back as CHCH's chopper. "Chopper 680" has been flying since the start of the month for the radio, now ready for the technical side of City. Port side has 680 News logos, while the Starboard side has the CityNews logos. Slowly getting back in the game City, sadly still without a pulse.

On this Carlsbad, CA edition of "Whose News Van Is It Anyway?" I see rust (grey hair), something Tegna despises... @Eat News I found your home.

Could Mediaite at least *try* to hide their biases? That short statement from Steve Cohen doesn't even admit defeat or backtracking from KUSI. And you all wonder why CNN and all of these media companies are called Fake News? Then KUSI does *1* little thing, oh god what a disaster; state run propaganda! Oh but it's ok, CNN, MSNBC, and everyone else can continue their TrumpBash2K20 all day long. DOA.

Is the Chopper still flying in the mornings? Wonder if they will just eliminate the morning flight and have it only in the evening with Deb up there? Since they are having their new fancy traffic chick in studio...
-
Do they still use their Downtown Skycam? I rarely tune in anymore, (now with the new changes I would need a barf bag) Anyways, here is a photo from today of their skycam setup on the Manchester Grand Hyatt Hotel. Also drove by the Kearny Mesa studios, the station sign they had out front on Engineer Road is gone (not sure how long it has been taken down)? Other than that, another one of their live trucks is parked out back ready to see it's next chapter. Unit 8 is off the property now, their old satellite one.
