  1. Our favorite broadcaster is partnering up to test news drones at FAA sites: http://www.carolinalive.com/news/story.aspx?id=1149728
  2. For all we know, ABC might move General Hospital to 11am ET and put "GAA" in the 2pm slot. Granted, I don't know if GH would drag down affiliates' midday newscast numbers but at least "GAA" would be able to do hand-to-hand combat with The Talk instead of competing with the juggernaut that is The Price is Right on CBS.
  3. RTÉ News New Look, 26 April 2014 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CzZdZ0v3fYA
  4. How about Tom Holden at WKBN? He not only embodied the station ethos at the time but also the Youngstown area itself. He anchored from 1972-2005 and his legacy is still alive at WKBN to this day.
  5. My prayers go out to those at Sinclair and also to Doug Gealy's family.
  6. The only way I see Pappas acquiring KFXL is making it a total satellite of NTV unless KLKN can somehow claim exclusive ABC rights in Lincoln. Otherwise, the FCC might classify Lincoln and Hastings and block the sale and force Pappas to keep the status quo if KFXL is keeping it's Fox affiliation on .1.
  7. I take it Haslem is leary of WOIO seeing how they messed up their preseason rights when Randy Lerner was the owner.
  8. And, again, James Ciehola makes a long winded rant.
  9. Or Raycom could buy WBNX, bump the CW to .2 and send WOIO's intellectual unit to 55.1 while cashing in WOIO's VHF 10 transmitter. 55 Action News, anyone?
  10. WTOV (to an extent) falls under this. It usually covers Ohio stories mostly while WTRF covers West Virginia stories mostly. However, WTOV dominates that market thanks to the NBC-to-CBS switch and WTRF's ownership upheavals in the '80s and 90s.
  11. I got a feeling the Deathstar is coming a knocking for KLAS,
  12. "Live from the Giant Eagle Broadcast Center in Columbus, this is ABC6 News on your side." It could work. :-p
  13. Hey Deathstar, do us a favor and stop using bland logos for your stations. THANK YOU!!! Edit: Probably should change my avatar since WKYC is owned by Gannett.
  14. Even in a big market like Cleveland, THAT'S OVERKILL!!! I bet 2/3 of those weekend newscasts will have fluff just to fill the time.
  15. Meanwhile in Youngstown, WKBN has been promoting wearing purple in support of its longtime chief meteorologist Don Guthrie, who is battling pancreatic cancer. http://wkbn.com/2014/07/17/wear-purple-event-to-show-support-for-guthrie/
  16. And plus the fonts on the last-gen Gannett graphics made the graphics look chintzy, especially on TV stations like WXIA, WKYC, KUSA, and the flaggy of the group, WUSA. I'm happy that the new graphics look a lot more expensive, even if they do look like they're easy to do on Microsoft PowerPoint.
  17. It sounds more like a VCR tape on WHAS. That and the fact that the every other aspect of WHAS but the graphics looks totally outdated. I'm still wondering how in the world 11 is in second place.
  18. Has WCNC kept the "NBC Charlotte" branding or are they branding to something new?
  19. While I do admit that the Gannett graphics look nice and clean, they're way too modern for KING 5's news set and makes it look more dated.
  20. Is this going to be a two-hour block on all Fox affiliates or will it be preempted on certain affiliates (WAGA, WTVT, etc.)?
  21. If they do, please 'CNC, NO DATED, LATE 90s-LOOKING, UGLY "NBC36" logo. But, IIRC, Gannett stations don't use a "(Network)(Number)" branding, correct?
  22. IMO, the E/I rules aren't really a necessity considering that we have PBS, Nick Jr, Sprout, etc. to teach kids. Lot of E/I shows aren't really all that entertaining except maybe a Litton show or two. I do believe that if the E/I rule was abolished that station would either air more news on the weekends or (in the case of super-small DMAs and Raycom's WOIO) more infomercials.
