  1. That's what I thought, I'm kind of surprised Kimmel isn't since it's an O&O. Didn't know if they had changed it yet or not. I wonder how easy Ron could make fun of him if it was customized and he said "Thanks Ron and Kathy". I'll have to watch and see him react now.
  2. Something I was curious about: I know ABC7 gets weekend world news previews with David Muir that mention the anchors name or Chicago or something to make them not generic. Do the weekday newscasts get a customized Diane Sawyer preview or a customized Jimmy Kimmel one? I saw Ron Magers reaction to them mentioned in the chat box and it got me wondering. Here in Detroit we get the weekday anchor interactions for WN and Jimmy Kimmel saying the anchors names before his preview clip. I'm supposing something like that is an option for affiliates?
  3. Of course they won't, if they did there would be a void.
  4. Mike Woolfolk has joined WXYZ as a reporter after being a consultant from 2010-2014. Prior to consulting he was an Anchor and Managing Editor at WACH FOX 57 in Columbia, SC from 1995-2010. He is a Detroit native.
  5. It does, but it's a little unorthodox to have no music, usually the music will start before the anchor says anything or graphics appear. That's what I am trying to say. They start the music here while still on a two shot of the anchors, then start a tease and graphics. So in that way, yes the music starting is my first clue because it starts FIRST. Not saying what WABC is doing is bad, just quiet.
  6. I think it's good to have it so you can tell when it's time for a break and do something else for three minutes. Does it make or break it? No. Is it kinda weird to not have it? Very.
  7. Jonathan Carlson is leaving WNCN Raleigh Durham for WXYZ Detroit. He will be an investigative reporter and starts in June. http://www.mediabistro.com/tvspy/jonathan-carlson-joins-wxyz-from-wncn_b121296
  8. What happened to Bill Carey that he managed to screw up PIX? When he was here in Detroit as ND at WXYZ in the early to mid 2000's he built a powerhouse of a station...
  9. Reporter Amanda Malkwoski is leaving Lansing, MI NBC affiliate WILX for Richmond, VA ABC affiliate WRIC to be a weekend anchor / reporter. She starts on Tuesday, May 27th. http://www.mediabistro.com/tvspy/amanda-malkowski-jumps-58-markets-from-lansing-to-richmond_b121053
  10. Derek Francis is leaving WZZM in Grand Rapids after 11 years as morning anchor. His last day is May 21st. He is taking a local PR job. http://www.mlive.com/entertainment/grand-rapids/index.ssf/2014/05/wzzm_tv_morning_anchor_derek_f.html
  11. Action cam is a little much but WPVI is a little much, and it's awesome.
  12. Janet Hundley is out as assistant ND after 12 years to join WTMJ Milwaukee as ND. Richard Maginn is out as EP on the Weekday 10pm broadcast after 19 years at ABC7. Both are effective at the end of sweeps. http://www.robertfeder.com/2014/05/09/abc-7-loses-two-key-news-executives/ I wonder if this will effect anything over on 7?
  13. The graphics look like they were smashed with a hammer and got fragmented. It's kinda like nails on a chalkboard to me when they overlap like that. Yuck. It's the same basic design as the WLS and WABC graphics but these are taken to a cartoonish extreme.
  14. Gotta love having a zillion versions of the same thing. Those must be by far the busiest graphics in the group..
  15. Ok since they resemble the ones at WABC for example is there any idea on those? It's such a mystery on these unless they are an in-company job.
  16. This is a stupid question but digging through this thread hasn't yielded any information. Do we know who made the current graphics package at 7?
  17. FCC Complaints against 11 stations were filed over lack of proper documentation of outside sources of money for political ads. The two groups behind the complaint say the stations failed to list specific individuals involved in the groups as required by law, instead merely listing the political groups name. Others include failure to list candidate and issue the ad is about. This information is kept in the public file of the stations. They are: WDIV Detroit (Post-Newsweek) KNXV Phoenix (Scripps) WTVJ Miami (NBC) WMUR Boston (Hearst) WFLA Tampa (Media General) WTVT Tampa (Fox) WWJ Detroit (CBS) KMGH Denver (Scripps) WCNC Charlotte, N.C. (Gannett) KMSP Minneapolis (Fox) WTVD Raleigh-Durham, N.C. (ABC). http://www.tvnewscheck.com/article/75985/11-stations-hit-with-political-ad-complaints
  18. In larger markets it's not uncommon to see those kinds of weather tidbits and lessons in a forecast..
  19. I see it now, sorry I totally misread that. They must have an concrete time they want to start, I've seen ours start as late as 11:01:30 before.
  20. That's why I asked the question about what it usually does. When one station goes straight to news and one goes to two commercials and they are on the same network that comes down to individual blocking decisions and where to sell ad space. The previous program wouldn't be relevant here because it was the same, but would be if it was say the first evening newscast coming out of syndication where your end times would be different.
  21. Right, I was thinking it needs a bit of work myself, I think it would look better if they did a credit roll tease, quick break and then cold open, only because it looked like they went from a tease into a tease with no warning. It really should be broken up somehow or have one of the two formats chosen to be the tease or open. Maybe they should just start with the cold open during the credit roll like some of the cable networks do? My memory is foggy since I haven't been in town to watch it OTA with commercials intact in over a month, but how did it normally go? Credit roll to open or Credit roll to commercial to open? Everybody is blocked slightly differently as we know.
  22. Did you edit this down from the original length or did they literally hop credit roll promo to cold open? WXYZ did something weird tonight too for sweeps, a cold tease at the end of the A block ala WPIX, the tease was nearly identical to that in format. Our opens are always cold as well but have 2 commercials shoved in the middle after the credit roll.... so you are probably right that it's a sweeps thing for ABC7. I like it better than the talentless open into live read myself, plus it sounds perfect because it is prerecorded. No chance of stumbling this way. I kind of hope they keep it as a feature and don't one off it.
  23. From the other 2 or 3 stories in the series it was 3 to 4 people. And yes it is that bad, they have been at this with the bank on the eviction story since early march iirc. I'm just glad it was pop and not something worse.
  24. This seemed like an odd story, a WXYZ reporter got hit with coffee while trying to talk to some squatters she helped evict. Then they came back during the live shot twice and threw BBQ sauce on the live truck.
