  1. WXYZ was May 2009 so the GO package had the logo for 5 months before the switch to Scripps V1.
  2. The current Morning EP Doug Whitmire who has helmed the newscast since 2008 is being promoted to EP of the 10pm newscast. He will split time between the two until a new EP is hired for mornings. He's been with WLS since 2003. http://www.mediabistro.com/tvspy/doug-whitmire-named-wls-1000-p-m-ep_b125827
  3. The fact that they say the address is strange, even weirder that it's Corporate Place. Lousy writing and even more uninventive street name.
  4. That was one of the most polite rude letters I've ever read, I would imagine there's been weirder and worse.
  5. Those are some nice improvements, the radar looked decent as well, other than the clouds and 3-d skyline graphics it looked pretty subtle.
  6. I could be wrong but the 7 day looks a little different to me. I like the 3D effects and the cloud cast.
  7. There are ways to gain access and plenty of people to get you there, that's really not a huge problem these days.
  8. #1 is to appease people who think opportunities were not given to minorities. I suppose If you see the name you can kind of tell (in reality this is just dumb) what their background is. #2 They think that the children trust the cartoon characters and will do whatever they say. The trouble is a child doesn't trust per se. A child is usually naive and uninhibited but not trusting as an adult would view it, somebody needed to put themselves into a kids shoes there. #3 The Public File rule is antiquated. Is there a good reason there isn't a national database of public files that anyone can access 24/7 online and stations can upload materials to as needed? It would definitely save a lot of paper and trouble.
  9. Sarah Dunlap Burke who had been Acting News Director at WBZ in Boston is joining WLS as Assistant News Director effective August 25th. This fills the hole left when Janet Hundley resigned to be News Director at WTMJ in Milwaukee. http://www.robertfeder.com/2014/07/21/chicago-homecoming-for-abc-7-news-exec/
  10. Chris Wright's first day on-air at WXYZ was today on the 6-7 and 8-10am newscasts.
  11. They left no stone unturned on that list, that's for sure. I hope it's fun.
  12. WXYZ is running a billboard promo touting that it is the highest rated ABC affiliate in primetime, 8-11pm in the May sweeps.
  13. Chris Wright who has been freelancing this year at WXIA in Atlanta and WTHR Indy where he had been Chief Meteorologist from 1999-2013 will join WXYZ as a temporary meteorologist while Chief Meteorologist Dave Rexroth heals from his fireworks accident.
  14. What are they trying to do? Copy P-N's silly branding?
  15. After 18 years as lead morning anchor Alan Lee is leaving WJBK's Fox 2 News Morning to be an Author. His last day is July 31st, he joined WJBK in 1996. This will weaken WJBK's morning show significantly, there may actually be a morning race now with 2nd place WXYZ.
  16. Jane Park has joined WXYZ in Detroit as a reporter, she came from WEYI Flint/Saginaw. Alexis Means has also joined WXYZ as a weekend reporter while remaining at WTOL Toledo during the week. WXYZ Chief Meteorologist Dave Rexroth will be off the air until September while he recovers from a fireworks accident in Iowa on Friday that caused him to lose his left eye and need several surgeries to receive a prosthetic.
  17. Alexis Means from WTVG Toldeo filed a report for WXYZ in Detroit yesterday. She still appears to work at WTVG so I'm not sure what was up with this. She may be freelancing or moonlighting, I've never seen a reporter from an out of group station appear on a newscast. I had always thought talent contracts prohibit that kind of work. I guess not.
  18. I don't really know about Hearst so I expect to learn some things from the thread but I have to say, having the severe stuff at the top is really awkward cutting the top half of Fallons head off like that. Wouldn't a colored picture of the counties and what type of warning plus county name be simpler? That and the ticker stuff at the very bottom.
  19. Reporter Smita Kalokhe has left WXYZ Detroit. She will focus on her family instead. She had been at WXYZ since November 2010 and came from WXMI Grand Rapids.
  20. Catherine Bodak is joining WXIX, the Raycom FOX affiliate in Cincinnati as morning meteorologist. She had been at WNEM the Merideth owned CBS affiliate in Saginaw, MI.
  21. Maybe for the sake of differentiating we should call it WCL News Update or something?
  22. Not bad, I thought it was interesting that Terrell was helming WCL and the To Go webcast (checked in on the app and saw the clips after it had ended so he was there too). Has he done the midday stuff only before like that? I still only see him sporadically, is there a good time to catch him since I really haven't had the chance to see him enough to form an opinion. Ryan does not helm WCL's news updates (I assume thats what the helming was that was mentioned). Terrell would have been filling in for either Alan or Linda. Tonya Babich, Judy Tsu and Hosea Sanders have done WCL and or the noon as well.
  23. Ok, then nobody cares, I suppose a portion of the audience is thinking the same thing, I will say his is hilariously subdued and sarcastic compared to Kimmels dry attempt at sounding upbeat.
  24. That's pretty funny, I wonder if anyone's gonna catch on and tell him to knock it off?
  25. One thing that is interesting about the custom versions is that they also say "Thanks, (Anchors names)". When the episode is a repeat however, even if the anchor team is the same as when the episode first aired with the proper customization, the line becomes simply "Thanks". It gives an unintentional clue whether the episode is new or not, the teases are also so stupid you can recognize them when they get reused.
