  1. The monochrome logo Is new and apparently it has a blue and silver twin since they used both in the same promo. I think by doing the monochrome it actually made the logo look thinner and it is significantly smaller than the one they use for their on-air bug with the V2 package. The silver version also lacks the badly done shine effect that made the outside edge of the curve on the 7 look jagged with the current package. The blue background with ghosted 7 is brand new as well. Some of the fonts are different from what they’ve been using but I can’t pin that down as I’m not a font expert. The text message boxes are catching my eye especially in that regard. Their feature promos featured barely any blue prior to this and no 7 logos hidden anywhere. This actually will be the first time there has been a ghosted 7 back behind anything since at least 2009 when they had their own Giant Octopus graphics and still used Eyewitness News for music. It’s subtle but I think it’s a nice touch on Scripps part. Obviously all the L3’s are brand new as part of the new package. These are the first use of any official parts of the package on air. The monochrome 7 did make it into a couple of investigative promos over the past couple of weeks but that’s been it until this. One would imagine if this is like the other stations so far that used a piece here and there they’ll fully roll out the new look this week. Somehow when they monochrome their logo it starts to look a little more like what some of the O&O’s use. Maybe I’m imagining things.
  2. Drip drip drip.. First use of the new look in a promo.. the new logo looks really good. The ghosted 7 is a nice touch. I’d say their debut is imminent.
  3. That’s the best thing I’ve heard all day.. there is hope.
  4. What I’m saying is that to say Denver and New York which are only 16 spots apart (a drop in the bucket relative to 210 markets) are even on the same level would be ridiculous... all I’m saying is that there is a drop in quality overall that belies the market sizes. You would think that there would be very little difference. Maybe there isn’t enough really good talent to go around, maybe the revolving door effect where folks use the markets as stepping stone is in play and they keep getting green talent that needs to get better first. Whatever the reasons the drop in quality and talent is real... real quick. Go beyond maybe 75 and it’s really really noticeable... are they even doing the same job level noticeable... that’s not super polite but the truth hurts.
  5. It was mid market a few years ago and I think the pace of growth has outstripped the development of the newscasts beyond mid-market level. Once you get past 10 there is a pretty precipitous drop in overall quality anyways.
  6. So you disagree by agreeing? Am I reading that right? I’ve been extremely underwhelmed by it when I’ve seen it but it’s a mid-market newscast and it does its job and not much more.
  7. But their newscast is pretty chill with little urgency... that’s been the vibe since they became part of Scripps...
  8. I started seeing those on WXYZ when they switched over to the Viz thing a couple years ago. It’s part of the V2 weather package but the refreshed one. Ours are darker than that and not as see through...
  9. They came from the same school of thought as KTVU and the 5 day forecast I guess...
  10. It looks like you get at least 3 choices and we have them in both a horizontal or if you prefer to be more compact a vertical...
  11. Our resident KMGH fanatic is gonna be disappointed to hear this but... those don’t look bad at all...
  12. Soon to follow: News-ish Truth-ish Worth Watching-ish Fish-ish Boring-ish And introducing: Ish-ish I think ABC’s motto must be “an ish in every home and 2 ish’s in every pot!”...
  13. It has a public access quality from what I understand... yikes...
  14. Good sign or bad sign if that almost looks ok like that? Getting closer at any rate...
  15. Yes and come say December 1st you can give yourself an “I was there to watch the short lived newscast CBS mainly outsourced” pin because most likely it’ll be gone by then. Georgia isn’t looking too in play yet (saw some polls last week that had Trumps smallest lead at 7 I think over Biden there) but Michigan and Florida are. Is CBS the only O&O operator with such a patchwork of news departments?
  16. Ah Randy Bhirdo and Syma Chowdrey were involved in that if I remember correctly... Syma is now at WXYZ and I think Randy still does traffic at WWJ-AM...
  17. It’s most likely just a political ad ploy... it’s unlikely they’ll start any kind of news department at all...
  18. WKBD last had a real newscast of their own when their news department was shuttered in 2002... then WXYZ ran it as “UPN Action News” until 2004. Nobody around here really counts “First Forecast Mornings” as much of anything and that was on WWJ as I recall...
  19. Maybe Inergy can be kept around some of the stations at the rate...
  20. Getting closer... WXYZ debuted a new investigative promo to go with their new logo I posted last week... here are a couple images. They did use a variant of the ghosted circle 7 as a background. This logo ghosted behind almost anything actually looks pretty sweet. I still can’t stand all the lower case for their slogan... it looks unprofessional...
  21. WXYZ has a new investigative logo that matches the new look: Not too shabby... Still V2 as of now but clearly it’s coming soon.
  22. What has improved? They all look identical outside of the bug thing...
  23. So they can put the logo in a box during the tease... this is the payoff for all the small ball executive hires to oversee their news operations as a group...
  24. So did they literally pay $.50 for a single cut of music? That’s all they seem to have is the single slow plodding cut. I don’t get it...
  25. It really does seem to matter what’s behind that bug... this is the poster child for why clear bug graphics in a newscast were abandoned around 1995...
