1. Yeah, that's the exact TVbD demo I had in mind myself. Tried to submit the theme to the NMSA twice, nothing came of it (though the WJXT and WFSB opens on the reel did get added fairly recently). There is also this...
2. Our source needs a capture card, but apparently WDIV ran through news opens like candy in the early 80's... As seen on the first TVbD demo, they had a different open by 1983 but this music stuck around as a bumper. And all that, in turn, was gone by 1984...
3. Someone took a few cues from News '80s v2... I'd love to hear that cut in the clear someday, especially the end.
4. That KOVR open... "13 Top Story Team"? What were they thinking? Then again, it was the 90s.
5. More KTVB, this time a new-to-them theme... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=NGbUnSxm2tQ;m=1;s=36
6.
Open is absolutely using News Edge - KAYU used the same cut around 2004.
@Raymie To add on to my own post - I submitted this to Mr. NMSA, and he thinks it's most likely from the Underground Collection of production music...a very strange coincidence, but one that makes sense (Arnold apparently let clients have at it in there if they picked up a package).
7. Open is absolutely using News Edge - KAYU used the same cut around 2004.
8. Said latter-day ticker seems to have originated with from the network.
9. On the topic of Tribune...I've thought this for a long time, now I'll say it: If something comes of these rumors, it's going to be a big step towards the cold reality I think is coming: Canada-level consolidation within the next 5 to 10 years, of the sort that will probably destroy the "local" image of the stations here as much as it has there. Brace yourselves.
10. Oh yes, I have the song on my regular music playlist...I was already convinced of the same.
11. That KJCT open is definitely KLTV 1985. I'll pop it in if you don't. The tease before it has another unknown that I recognize but can't name off the top of my head... As for WMAR...wow, that's not the general style I'd expect from TVbD (save the "Nightside" lettering). Could there have been someone else involved?
12. ICYMI, VHSgoodiesWA switched to a new channel...and from it, we have a KMGH close and late movie intro from March 1981. The close theme matches the opens found in that gag reel that turned up a while back, but check out the music for the movie intro...Where You Belong!
13. I'm starting to seriously doubt KFMB ever used Hello in a news context... ...and understand why the late 80's opens looked so dated, even then (beyond, of course, the spinning news ei8ht).
14. I'd say it is. Melody turns into a dead-on match in the last five seconds (compare :15 in the WTVM open on the NMSA). Interesting...the first few seconds of that "The World Tonight" open uses the same music as ...
15. That KERO/KVBC/WVVA theme isn't just new, it's leaping out at us! I think all this stuff over the past few days has been one of the biggest hauls of new finds I've seen in years.
16.
From around 1983/1984, here is a KOAM-TV news open featuring the classic "Tuesday3" theme and a mention of Brian Williams doing weather - THE Brian Williams currently on MSNBC.
This is TuesdayE, not Tuesday3...but still, yet another thing to throw into the Joplin blender... At this point this feels like a topic for a @Raymie article...
17. Holy crap, what an amazing collection of finds! I see four or five new listings for the NMSA... That KVBC open is using the same theme as the KERO opens...
18.
WMAQ 1974 close at the end of this clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ggLZWIcPgc One of the posters commented the theme was also used by WNAC and WDIO.
Digging this out of the archives...I found the evidence for WDIO using this piece. Terrible quality, but pretty cool nonetheless! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=5haQDU7kdGY;m=3;s=26 And this is the evidence for WNAC. Going to ping @TServo2049 for this too, since he said the track is a Capitol piece he might have...
19. We can backdate WLVI 1992 to 1990 now...featuring the Gannett Death Star with a very strange jingle instead of the usual music. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=fpeL8rIfUpw;m=22;s=27
20. Just grasping at straws here, but is there any chance this could be the 1988 theme, or even this oddball from '86? The 1988 theme especially always sounded rather dated for then to me.
21. The piano melody when Parks says "holiday cheer" is spot on...it's the first part that has me second guessing myself. It definitely would be an oddity...but stranger things have happened, even amongst Stephen Arnold packages (e.g. WBRZ and WGMB, more recently).
22. It seems KERO was using Third Coast in 1999, if my ears are telling the truth... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=A90iDB0xrVg;m=3;s=52
23. More evidence appears... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=SpqviLSe2oA;m=5;s=2
24. That has got to be the strangest rendition of Hello I've ever heard. I wonder if they actually used it outside of this (which really does amount to sucking up to the network...). KNDO in 1984...no open but given the close in the second part of the clip, this would probably be their theme. Interesting use of the NBC News globe animation of the time! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=8XEmXON_bFM;m=10;s=21
