  1. Those are some fantastic clips, especially the smaller markets... One thing immediately leapt to mind - WRBL's look is downright unimpressive compared to (which seems to have preceded it).
  2. Fantastic clips...that WNYT look in particular has some of the oddest Prime News cuts I've ever heard paired with a strange take on the "flying monitors" graphics. Very interesting, and can't wait to see what else you have in store for us!
  3. Finally, some solid proof that they were using Advantage much earlier than 1998... (the TVbD demos were the smoking gun)
  4. This...this is an absolute gold mine. Let's just say that WEVU sampler clocks in at 23 minutes for a very good reason...
  5. Wow, WCWB's on-air look at the time was even more primitive than I expected...no wonder WGXA creamed them in the ratings from day one!
  6. It's not bad - and I will agree the blue is actually a really good color choice - but the tags could use some work in the animation department...
  7. There are no words sufficient to describe the tracking on that second WMBD clip... Except, perhaps, "time for a hearing aid".
  8. That KTVO News listing would actually fit in with the NMSA having them pick up Newsleader in 1996...
  9. ICYMI, WAGA has also started using Beyond recently, but only on Good Day Atlanta. I only have audio recording capability (no video capture card...), but here's a few clips from today, showcasing various cuts that may or may not have appeared yet elsewhere. 7 AM open - this cut is used on all other opens as well A "hard" theme used for the headlines at the bottom of the hour A long bump with the morning theme
  10. This is a particularly cool clip for me...the music for the close is "The Dream Is Always The Same" by Tangerine Dream, from the soundtrack to the movie Risky Business - which also has the two tracks used in the 1985 TVbD demo ("Lana" and "Love On A Real Train"). Great find!
  11. There's more KOBR...a News 8 Roswell insert, also from 1992. No open, but the close (at 6:25 in) has a certain familiar theme for their parent station...
  12. Hmm, the snippet of music at the end of that KTVN clip sounds very much like And You...
  13. My gosh, the 3D animation in the first open is awkward. Yikes...
  14. Night and day in favor of 60. It's really rare to see vintage content in it...if you can find a way to do it, it makes a huge difference!
  15. Great stuff...but I couldn't help but put my four years of French to work here. As the names are La Première and La Deuxième Chaîne, the names are correctly translated as the First and Second Channel, rather than First and Second Network. (The term for network is réseau - TVA of Quebec calls itself as such, dating back to when they were a cooperative like CTV.) Meanwhile, back in the plains, 6 and 10 PM opens from KOLN/KGIN, featuring series 2 of Making a Difference in all its 90's glory.
  16. The KCST opens are cool, but that KGTV open (4:10) steals the show for me. News 88 pre-TVbD (the clips are all from September 1987), with graphics that clearly derive from ...I know we've seen the open set before, but a very cool mix there either way.
  17. Yes, I've seen that '87 clip with Tuesday8...the other possibility is that WAGA started using the image before switching to the news package. I just find it harder to line the signature up with WEWS's version.
  18. That definitely confirms for me what I'd already suspected - WAGA must have commissioned Good News. (The melody lines up perfectly anyway - "good folks, good news, TV-5" and "good news on TV-5".) Also, that KENW newscast is surprisingly well-produced for a small-market college show...
  19. That "3 for All" sounds like it's unrelated to the Klein& campaign. It honestly doesn't sound like a TV jingle at all...egads.
  20. The KNAZ open would be slightly better if they'd done what I hoped to see and written the title as "News 2night." Hmm...I may have to remedy it for them.
  21. That '95 KNAZ clip...were their studios by a rail line or something? I swear I can hear a train horn in the background at the beginning of the show. Guess they couldn't afford much soundproofing for their building... Meanwhile, off to Spokane we go, for KREM in 1996. Note the music... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=NlnXJRYFT2Y;t=2 And a little later in the year, it seems that KXLY had already gone to Counterpoint. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=P5eRDAbK-Hw;m=3;s=12 And finally, from Portland, some...odd usage of the Fisher sounder, and a slogan so bad it absorbed the station ID!
  22. That has got to be one of the worst CG takes on Helvetica I've ever seen. Bad kerning, weird letter heights...the works. (And yet the weather summary is surprisingly sane.)
  23. I can't believe that actually made it to air...guess they didn't have time to fix the lights and do another take?
  24. Don't know what's better here...Thompson on the KNXV ID, or Ernie Anderson voicing the TNG promo (for an episode I've seen, no less - avid Trekkie here). Pretty cool stuff coming out of the woodwork lately...
  25. I'm sure the folks over at WTKR and WAVY are thanking them. Though...you never know. With all the downbeat "if it bleeds, it leads" stories that usually topped, buffered and filled the shows when I lived there, maybe a WTSP/KXTV approach is exactly the sort of thing the market needs. Guess we'll find out when the ratings come...
