  1. Given all the diginets out there who somehow seemed to make money and stay alive with crappy programming, you would think that somebody could make money with Pac-12 sports. Scripps has TV stations in the home markets of each remaining Pac-12 school, plus LA, San Diego and Las Vegas. That's a pretty good start for some kind of an over-the-air network. Home markets are where you will get the most viewership, and then just stick it on a diginet for the rest of the country. Just like the old days when sports teams had to assemble their own networks. Like I said, it's not crazy. Another thought: They own Bounce, the black oriented channel. Pac-12 programming might fit on there as well.
  2. It's not as crazy as it sounds. Look at all the stations Scripps owns within or near the PAC-12 footprint:
  3. There are only four FCC commissioners right now, two Republican and two Democrat. I'm not sure whether they have to vote on this or not, but if they do, this thing will be deadlocked forever. Let the bankster twist in the wind.
  4. Why don't they know the name of their own meteorologist? Because he's being beamed in from somewhere else maybe? His name is not Rich Ward His name is Rich Wirdzek. He used to be on WHIO, not sure where he is coming from today. That is one ugly and dated logo. They really do need to do something else.
  5. It almost looks like they stole their opening from Tegna. Looks good, though.
  6. And remember, greed when it came to retran fees is what accelerated the decline. I think when I cut the cord, retran fees were about $22, and then there was a sports surcharge taking it up to $30 on top of the regular bill. That's when I said, "No thanks."
  7. I just read something about the Bally's sports networks and their looming bankruptcy. Disney paid $20 billion for them, Sinclair paid $10 billion and now they are worth $3 billion. Well, Sinclair really paid $1.4 billion, the banks get stuck with the rest. Cable penetration went from 91% down to the 50%'s. At the end of the day, nobody wants to pay for this stuff anymore. People just ignored the cost because it was buried in the bundle. I think sports needs to go back to Free TV. It would lift the value of all these worthless independent stations by returning some good programming back to them.
  8. Complaining about the involvement of the Saudis, a long time ally of the United States, seems to be a little hollow to me. Something else is going on here. We gladly take their oil and their money to buy F-16s, but we're going to reject their golf? Right. I think a lot of things going on at the same time, but don't discount collusion with the PGA. That's a big no-no if they didn't follow all the legalities and could cost everybody a lot of money.
  9. It's still a good looking set so I can't complain too much about them keeping it. I can't believe it's been 11 years.
  10. News Nation reporter, or WKBN? https://www.cincinnati.com/story/news/2023/02/09/newsnation-reporter-arrested-dewine-east-palestine-ohio-train-derailment-update/69887571007/ Oh, and the Mic flags. Sorry if I posted in the wrong place.
  11. 55kw is hardly better than an LPTV. They should have stayed on VHF.
  12. Normal branding and those colors are Pittsburgh you have to admit. When all of your pro teams basically have the same color scheme, why not? I believe WTTE/WSYX uses Ohio State scarlet and gray in the FOX-28 logo. And doesn't WPGH FOX-53 have black and yellow in their logo?
  13. My point is that calling CW a network, is like calling some minor league ball player a pro. Technically, I guess they are, but you know what I mean. I don't know why you wouldn't advertise it though. If you have CW shows on, you should display the logo so that people know what your product is. That's even more true with CBS, given the heritage of CBS News and all and given that these guys are trying to be a news-oriented channel. The website is your storefront. It seems like this is the kind of information you would want to have instantly visible rather than just having a generic page like that.
  14. Every CBS Gray website in Ohio and West Virginia shows the CBS logo. Fox's successful formula is to own stations in NFL cities. That way they get to double dip on both the local and national advertising sides. It's not far fetched in a world where NBC dumped KRON and WHDH that CBS could see an opportunity to add another top 10 Market to their stable.
  15. Just for fun, I scanned as many CBS affiliate websites in Ohio and surrounding areas I could think of. Everybody's website featured the CBS logo in some form except for WKRC and WHIO. Even Gray stations in Ohio and WV use the CBS logo on their website. WIYE-LD in Parkersburg doesn't appear to have a website, but they include the CBS Eye in their logo. Weird.
  16. There are rumors where people are blowing smoke, and then there are other rumors where there might be something to them. Given how all the pieces are fitting together, this one deserves a little more than a blow off. That doesn't mean it's going to turn out this way, but I still think it's weird to not have the CBS logo anywhere on your website or a link to "Your favorite CBS shows!" Even a small logo up in the corner or down at the bottom would be enough, yet there is nothing.
  17. The station they are on has a better signal. WCIV has about half the power if memory serves, plus they get to keep the duopoly. The FCC should just be lenient about trading virtual channel numbers. As long as no conflicts are created, I don't see what the big deal is. Much less confusing for the viewer.
  18. I think part of that roadmap goes through San Francisco with KNTV and Boston with WBTS. NBC took relatively strong affiliates and brought them in house without batting an eye. If it didn't work in San Francisco, they wouldn't have done the same thing (and even more) in Boston. And I am still amazed at the ingeniousness involved with channel sharing an LPTV license on public television and back dooring into a full powered signal in Boston. Their ratings might be bad, but that was a smart way to work the system. In Atlanta, you have a weak affiliate. Given how well this thing in Detroit seems to be working out, I wouldn't hesitate at all. Tampa would be interesting. I don't know how WTSP does in the ratings but traditionally they've been in third place. ABC is on a UHF channel number and WTOG has a storied history there, so that one almost seems like a no-brainer as well. They won't owe the bankster any favors if he ends up taking over Tegna. WTOG has the better UHF signal and a 1500 ft Tower. WTSP is a VHF. I don't know about Seattle, though. KIRO seems to be pretty strong, but it's every man for himself out there. Also might be away for CBS to get back at gray for sticking them on so many .2's
  19. CBS doesn't own a station in Hartford.
  20. -No CBS logos on the ANF website, which is normal when stations are losing their affiliation; -Meredith renewed their CBS contract in 3-year increments, the last contract was in 2020, probably ending in 2023; -Low rated station CBS wouldn't miss; -CBS dumping CW from CBS-owned Channel 69; -Better dial position (hit the down button from Channel 2 and 69 is where you end up); -Maximum power signal at 1000 KW. All signs are pointing to this being the new WJXT, WISH, WHDH.
  21. I'm sorry I got everybody off on a tangent, but CBS needed some place to park the CW back in the old days. Now they don't. But just take a look at the WANF website. Not a CBS logo in sight. I don't think it's a stretch to think they are going the way of WISH, WJXT and WHDH. Gray didn't have to do anything just as Sunbeam didn't have to do anything in Boston. CBS may just want to bring things in house. What you see in this Detroit launch will probably end up being relevant in Atlanta. I just noticed the Atlanta News First thread below. Sorry if I went off on a tangent. LOL
  22. I think over on the other thread they said that CBS is dropping CW in Atlanta and at least one other city. That's not speculation. The speculation part was that they were going to turn Channel 69 into CBS for Atlanta. I think given what you see when you go to atlantanewsfirst.com you can take that out of the speculation category. I think it has legs. Just my opinion.
  23. Yeah, but not a single CBS logo on their homepage? You really have to dig on their website to find any reference to CBS. I couldn't find any. Since the Detroit News launch seems to be going well, don't be surprised if Atlanta isn't next. They already have a 30-minute newscast produced in Dallas. Also, if you dig back into google, there was an announcement in March, 2020 about Meredith re-upping with CBS. The previous renewal was in 2017 so we are on a 3-year timeline. Sorry if this is speculation, but given what the WANF website looks like, I think it's more than speculation at this point.
  24. Also: This is going to dovetail well with CBS having the rights to Big Ten Football this season. Big Ten on Saturday, NFL on Sunday ... maybe they can get some traction for the station with a slick-looking newscast.
