    My take is this:

I've been a DOOL fan since 1987, though I haven't really watched much in recent years because of real life (and my local NBC station moving it to 12 noon a few years ago). But remember when NBC took its last original soap, Passions off the network and moved it to DirecTV? It remained on five days a week, then was reduced to three days a week before it ended completely about a year after the move. And let's not forget about the short-lived web revivals of All My Children and One Life to Live after ABC killed those programs. And that was in a world before streaming.

Days of Our Lives is an expensive program to produce. I would expect some of the longer-tenured cast members (Deidre Hall, Alison Sweeney, Drake Hogestyn, Josh Taylor, etc.) are the highest paid. I don't think the ad revenues will be the same with streaming-only as opposed to broadcast. If budgets get reduced, expect a purge of cast and creative staff. I see the show surviving in this form no more than three years.

Days' budget had been cut over the years. The shows model was to tape way in advancement, so in July they were taping Christmas shows.  A few years ago they fired the cast, but that was apart of the process for NBC to pay for the license fees. Sony treated Days' liked the red headed step child. They had reduced the pay for many of it actors, and the budget had been reduced alot. There was never any room in the budget for alot of things.

CBS Afternoons by the middle of the decade?

Bold contract is up with CBS in 2023, and The Bell Family owns that show outright. They would have more staying power, because the show makes alot of $$$ overseas. The family both sold Bold and YR internationally.  As for YR they have the biggest budget too, but CBS has cut their license fees over the years. Veteran actors have taken paycuts over the years. YR as well Bold have made $$$ overseas selling the show internationally.

It'd be interesting to see whether CBS would put The Young & The Restless and The Bold & The Beautiful over on Paramount+ at some point if their days on CBS is numbered.

We discussed in the NBC News Daily thread Peacock the idea of that streaming service acquiring P&G soaps.  I especially miss seeing Another World, As The World Turns, and Guiding Light.  Even though GL may have been on life support in its last few years on the air, ATWT and AW were getting better when they ended.  I think if P&G had allowed CBS or NBC buy ownership of them, those shows would've been on a few years longer or still be on.  Another idea I've thought of would've been for them to be shorten to half-hour in length.

One reason Another World was cut was because NBC wanted to owned the show.  P&G wasn't going to sell it to NBC so they axe the show for Passions.

P&G wanted out of the soap business with Guiding Light and World Turns.  Bold contract is up in 2023 & YR contract is up in 2024.  ABC owns General Hospital outright, so they can axe them at anytime they want.

The problems that this set faces is because it still follows the plan of the 2013 set. Just get rid of that plan and build a new darn set with brick and wood elements!

The 11ALIVE logo needs some work done. The current one is trash! Someone had to say it!

At least it is better then THIS logo.  WRIC has seen much worse. Their highlight was when they were Media General's Flagship. Remember, This station was owned by Young Broadcasting who treated WRIC as a dumpster fire. People around Richmond would actually ask for WVEC or WJLA in their cable/satellite subscriptions in the 90s/00s due to how bad this station was.

    Screenshot 2022-06-09 191257.jpg

I remember that logo and watched WRIC TV8 News in the  mid90s while visiting Richmond. However down the road Young seem to do some investing.  It got to a point WRIC & WTVR were tied in some newscast and WRIC beat WTVR for #2.  That logo made it for two decades and I don't know how it survived without changes, but Young Broadcasting, wasn't like many groups.

Why not? Here in Columbus Channel 4 called its helicopter "Chopper 4." Channel 10 called theirs "SkyCam" or something like that. I guess SkyCam didn't have a very good ring to it so they started calling it "Chopper 10."

SkyCam goes back to their days in the late 70s and made the changes in the mid 90s.  Channel 6 called theirs SKY 6 from the late 80s/90s and again 2009-10. There no chopper now.

    Yes they do.

Why exactly do they need another 4pm news?  At what point does someone in management say this is overkill?

Another Hearst outlet is launching the 4pm. WISN (Finally!!) will launch the new show, beginning June 6.

Weekend Anchor Kristin Pierce and 9pm anchor Derrick Rose will anchor the new broadcast.

    Program lineup will also change

    • 2pm - Tamrom Hall
    • 3pm - Ellen DeGeneres (will be replaced by Jennifer Hudson in the Fall)
    • 4pm - 12 News at 4pm

Looks like The Good Dish would probably be burned off in the overnights for the remainder of the run.

Does Milwaukee need another 4pm news?🙄

Outside of news junkies, I cannot see the average Joe on the street paying for CNN. CNN is something that you glance at in the doctors office waiting room or the airport, or watch because it's included on your basic cable package. Worse yet, TV CNN's jouurnalistic content isnt even that good. Time will tell if this streaming idea will work.

I don't see it either with regular people paying for CNN+. For one, Kate Bouldan, Wolf Blitzer, Anderson Cooper, and Don Lemon all have shows on the main network, and would Chris Wallace really bring in subscriptions? Add to the fact that the linear CNN will not be streamed on the service doesn't help either. Add to the fact that CNN tends to rank 3rd in cable news ratings, I just don't see it lasting. I bet the library programming would be higher than the news programming. Not to mention, there's already several free options out there for live news.

I remember seeing people mention here in the past about Robin and moving her over to CNN.. The thing is she's not a hard news journalist. Her style and talents would be a waste on CNN. She's more of an entertainment person over politics and foreign affairs.

Are people not paying for Netflix, Hulu, AmazonPrime, AppleTV, Disney+ and many other streaming platforms? Believe it or not streaming is the future and that

someone told me at AT&T that why they created their own. You can get cable from Hulu and Youtube. I know very few people who still have cable.

I mean what was also unexpected was Monica Pearson jumping ship from WSB and going to WGCL. Trust, it may have been rare for WSB to do that, but Coxpollo has no loyalties.

Though, Karyn has staying power and a following and has been on Atlanta airwaves for decades. She's been a main weeknight anchor before at two different stations. She also has a history of being like a younger Monica in terms of her giving back to the community and her philanthropic projects. She's also hosted a radio show like Monica. So honestly this was a smart move for WSB, and she's more than earned her dues to move up to the number 1 station in their number 1 chair.

Brenda Wood of WXIA said it best in the Rodney Ho article about Karyn, saying she was the most veteran anchor in Atlanta TV right now. That's not being facetious. She's been there since 1989, that's the most veteran news anchor in Atlanta TV right now. Everyone else has retired or died off. Jeff Hullinger at WXIA doesn't count because he was sports for longer than he was a news anchor.

Despite WSB Cox/Apollo deal- WSB believes in getting talent from the competition and it has. John Pruitt had more than one stint at WSB and when he went to WXIA in 1978. He returned to WSB in 1994.  Richard Belcher & Sally Sears both husband/wife worked at WAGA and landed at WSB and same with Pam Martin too. WSB plays for keeps.  The one time WSB did get outplayed was both WSB & WXIA were courting Brenda Wood after she left WAGA. Brenda, thought she would end up at WSB and was rumor to succeed Monica a few years later.  WXIA got Brenda while WSB was still making  their deal.

Karyn was weeknight anchor at 46 and weekend anchor -then morning anchor/reporter at WXIA, and returned to 46.

I guess despite Karyn almost 60, WSB does see her as an asset to the community, but WSB is also playing a chess game too. Monica going to WGCL, but will get Karyn at WSB for all the gold.  I agree with you and Brenda Wood, that Karyn is the most veteran anchor in Atlanta.

Richard Belecher and Mark Winnie still on investigation beat at WSB.  Russ Spencer at WAGA, and Hullinger at WXIA and news or sports. Hullinger been in the Atlanta market since 1984.

WOW, that was definitely unexpected. Congrats to her though! It's rare that WSB will add someone from a last place station in the market even with her rich Atlanta History.

Not necessarily Shannon Walshe & Tiffany Diaz once worked at 46 during the WGNX days and were reporters at WSB-TV. Tiffany was a freelancer. Also Lori Wilson works at WSB-TV, but was at WGCL before going to Indianapolis and coming back to Atlanta.

Likely 5 & 11 pm with Wendy Corona adding 6 pm duties in addition her 4 pm duties. I believe Wendy for the time being has been anchoring all of the evening shows.

Linda Stouffer as well too was filling in.

I always felt this should be a show on MSNBC live from the white house. Hallie Jackson did this a couple of times. It would be a great show to replace Craig Melvin's hour so he can just work on TODAY and other reporting work

I agree he should be on Today not MSNBC. Ali Velshi fill-ins and does weekends, but he should have his own weekday show.

Okay, I'm confused. Soo Kim and Standard General aren't Apollo, right? But Apollo's still involved?

And what's the point in WFAA, KVUE, and KHOU going to Cox?

Soo Kim was a shareholder or on the board at TEGNA.  Soo Kim had issues with TEGNA leadership under Lougee.  Deborah McDermott. who ran Young Broadcasting

runs Stand General.  Standard and Apollo are not the same two different equity firms with tv station in the company portfolio.

As much as FTVlive.com Scott can be. He had alot of stories about Kim and Lougee at TEGNA.

In Atlanta, I'm sure there are a lot of happy faces at Fox 5.

FOX 5 will still be #2 and WSB will still be #1 WXIA will still be #3 until WGCL passes them up.

WAGA's philosophy has been what's WSB doing? How are they covering the story? Let try to out do them?

Despite Cox/Apollo deal one thing for sure they can screw up any station, but not the mothership WSB-TV.

If this deal has to have more divesting here is how I see it ..

    ALLEN MEDIA GROUP Gets

    WXIA/WATL Atlanta

    WTLV/WJXX Jacksonville

    FOX TELEVISION STATIONS gets

    WHBQ Memphis

    MISSION BROADCASTING gets

    WJAX /WFOX Jacksonville

    NBCUniversal gets

    WCNC Charlotte

FOX doesn't want WHBQ and there was a reason why they got sold. FOX didn't do much investment into WHBQ.
