While all these new stations are getting the graphics, one station that's had them,WUSA, found a way to really butcher the open. I hate three note sig played in the tease as a transition. And they have some crappy in-house graphic for the wx sting now:

    [yt]eB3IvQ73V-o[/yt]

That topic transition with the three-note stinger is the dumbest thing I've ever seen. It doesn't even match up with the bumper music. It's out of time.

WETM has debuted their new logo and Look F (I think that's right, may be wrong) and they are now in HD as well.

    http://www.mytwintiers.com/video/d/video/local-police-train-with-narcan/5226444

Not too shabby for market 174

Look G. Close enough. They look great in HD. I am kind of surprised they didn't get a Nexstar set-in-a-box. They instead got the WSYR treatment with the huge TV monitor behind the anchors, spacing them out. If they would've gotten the monitor that stations like WBRE and WTAJ have, it would look better. But... oh my. WENY is definitely more professional. I understand that it IS market 174, but that's no excuse. WETM's competitor is far superior as far as level of professionalism. I sense some audio issues, but I'm sure they will got sorted out in a few days when they start getting used to the new setup.
  3. I didn't like the old logo; it felt very old. I'm happy for the replacement. I'm very glad that they are not getting the standard Nexstar NBC affiliate logo, (i.e., WHAG, KNWA, KRBC, etc.)

  4. Didn't know where else to post this, so...

WETM in Elmira, NY has a new logo and what appears to be a new set. I can only see a little bit from their Facebook. With WENY updating graphics and set and such not long ago, this will make Twin Tiers TV very nice.

I did notice something a few minutes ago that perturbed me about WHAS's use of "categories" to delineate the content of each story. They used a teal-colored travel category when discussing a local bridge closing and some other construction work. I get that this is technically "travel" information, but when I think travel I think of something like a trip to a faraway location, rather than having to take the longer way to work in the morning. Does the Gannett package really not have a category for traffic?

They use that same color for traffic as well as travel.

A work commute technically IS travel.

Great to hear that it doesn't sound wobbly and all vhs'ish on-air....as much as I don't mind that cut of music, just ONE thing about it makes me want to hate it... the KICK drum! I believe there are versions of that track without it, but the WHAS youtube linked above uses the cut with it. The kick drum sounds like it's not in time with anything else with the rhythm of the music. Maybe I'm the only one who notices that wacky off-timed drum lol. Anyone else? Maybe my criticism isn't fair or warranted, I had earbuds in.

A few weeks ago when I first noticed it with another Gannett station, I assumed maybe it was a click track that the Gari folks accidentally left on in their Pro-Tools/MOTU music software when mixing.

EDIT: I think I may have figured it out... it sounds like the kick drum clashes with the timing of the 3-note "this is home" melodies but appears to be in time with the underlying rhythm.. The melody on top makes it makes it seem like the timing is off at moments.

As a musician, I can tell you that the kick drum is executing a musical trick. I can't believe that I forget what it's called.

Basically, it's taking an overall rhythm being counted with 3 beats in a measure. That's what the kick drum is doing. But, at 0:36, the melody line is laying down a rhythm that is a 4 beat pattern. It's sounds like it's off because it is. It's trying to fit more beats in a measure than what there are. It's what's called a "cross-rhythm." It's something like this.

Anyway... I can tell that it is the entire stream because the anchors will get really high pitched and then really low pitched. You can really hear it with the music, but I can hear it when it's just them talking, too.

Speaking of KYTX; they seem to have used the old CBS News graphics (Katie Couric-generation) at some point.

They were just a pretty good in-house knockoff, but they wanted to really boast that they were a CBS affiliate.

Some interesting musings from the TV world:

    • Leslie Draffin has left NBC affiliate KTAL and will be joining KOKH as their new morning co-anchor. You'll recall KOKH has been without a morning co-anchor since Wendy Suares was promoted to main anchor.
    • KTBS got those tired WISH GO graphics, but a red and white variation of them: newgfx.jpg
    • Judy Waggoner is now main co-anchor with Heather Williams at KTVE in Monroe, LA. Rudy Williams the previous anchor left.
    • Carly Flynn Morgan is leaving Fox61 in Chatanooga to become the new morning anchor at KTBS in Shreveport. She replaces Chrissi Coile who is leaving to "spend more time with the family".
    • Milwaukee's WDJT has hired Sachelle Saunders to be the new weekend co-anchor and GA reporter. She comes from WTVO in Rockford where she was the morning co-anchor.
    • Jacqueline Crea joins KHOU as a general assignments reporter from KTSM, where she was an MMJ.
    • WSVN lost their foreclosure lawsuit they filed against property developer Scott Greenwald, and his company Isle of Dreams LLC, for the piece of land right next door that housed former sister radio station WIOD. They are on the same parcel of land which is mostly a parking lot. WSVN staffers had been using that lot but can no longer. They now have to park across the street as there are only 90 parking spots on WSVN's land. WSVN is only allowing females and on-air talent to park on premises. Since the entrance to WSVN is on his land, they evicted the security guard and are going to demolish the guardhouse.
    • Remember that anchor who tweeted to WPEC anchor John Discepolo: "Someone is hiding in your house waiting to kill you … find out where … tonight at 11." in response to a tease the anchor tweeted out. Discepolo decided to file charges. Well those have been dropped fortunately.
    • Jenna Kooi who anchors the 7 and 11pm newscasts at WRTV has decided to call it quits, not returning after being on maternity leave. No replacement has been named yet.
    • And finally (FTVLIVE):

WCPO in Cincinnati ran this story on their newscast a week ago:

What the station did not point out in the story was that their Reporter Kendall Herold was involved in the crash and was arrested for DUI.
This week, WCPO finally got around to posting the story of her arrest on the station's website. Supposedly, they only posted it after Newsblues contacted the station seeking comment.

The station wrote: WCPO Reporter Kendall Herold has been arrested for DUI. The arrest occurred Wednesday night in Covington.

According to police her alcohol level was .08. Kendall Herold was released from jail Thursday morning.
Since her arrest, viewers have been posting messages of encouragement across social media ( :bang: :bang: :bang: ):

The station is refusing to comment more on her arrest or on her future at WCPO. Kendall must be real popular there or something to still have a job. You can accidentally drop the f-bomb on TV and lose your job, but if you drive drunk and get into a wreck you still have one? A quick check of their site shows that her bio is still up.
This is what I (myself, not the website I got this from) think about WCPO and their credibility:

Hey, look! WAVY's graphics show WCPO's credibility.
  9. WTAJ Anchor Patrick Schurr announced via his Facebook page this he will be leaving the station. He starts his new job tomorrow.

Now it's time to say goodbye... or at least, see ya later.

I was 23-years-old when I went to WTAJ as a reporter in 1999. I figured I'd be there for two or three years and then move on to a bigger city.

Instead, I found that Central Pennsylvania was a good place to live and a good place to work. I enjoyed covering stories that affected our communities. That was a good reason to stay.

I was promoted to morning/noon anchor in early 2002. Another good reason to stay.

I met my future wife here around the same time. That was a great reason to stay.

We started our family and now have three wonderful young sons. This is a good place for them to grow up.

I loved working at WTAJ-- especially doing the morning show. I was blessed to work with a great crew-- a true team (we always called ourselves a "dysfunctional family"). Many of us became great friends and I think always will be. Past and present, they have my respect, love and gratitude.

But most of all, I truly loved having the opportunity to be a part of your mornings. My hope is that, along with the news, I was able to provide a little fun and humor-- whether you were laughing with me... or at me! And I'll never be able to thank you all enough for your kind words, compliments and support over the years.

Even though I've moved on from the station, I'm not moving. I'm just changing careers. I'll still be in the area, still be active in the community. After all, as I said, there are a lot of reasons to stay! Not to mention, this is home.

I'm looking forward to this next chapter and am excited to get started. In fact, I start tomorrow. And I don't have to get up at 3 a.m.! But, I should get to bed.

So, in the words of Edward R. Murrow... "Good night, and good luck."

I, personally, will miss Patrick every morning. His former co-anchor, Amy Mearkle, is still in the community, but does not work in news. It appears at though Schurr is going to do the same thing.

NMSA's name for the theme: "I Love Chicago"-themed News Package"

You're welcome. I just sent in about it. Mr. NMSA took what I said about it being the "I love Chicago, Chicago my home" signature and took it very literally.
  11. So it is official, KGPE went HD today...

    BUT

:awesome: apparently no one trained the sound technicians because their facebook page is flooded with comments like...

new set and graphics look awesome, but it sounds like you all are talking in tin cans and the audio is off... but looking good!!

Please fix the audio. The sound and the video look like the anchors are lipsynching. BAD

Sound was so bad I had to change the Chanel. Audio is completely off. I love watching the 47 news but can't watch it like this, sorry. Please fix it!!

@CBS47 OK what has happened to the sound on our new "HD" news ???

You get the point... apparently the commenters do not because it goes on for dozens of comments... :beat: :beat: :beat: :beat:

  12.

is their an audio version of.the Arnold's enforcer that can be heard?

It's been floating around. I've heard it... it's not fantastic. SAM could've done much better, but it's still good to hear something non-Gari with the "I Love Chicago, Chicago My Home" signature...

    How was that sanewsguy?

  13.

It might be the new cut of the CBS news enforcer collection that kgpe Is using.

I can with 99.9% certainty claim that KGPE will be using a totally new music package. I cannot share sources because they are anonymous, but the new theme is slated to be created by Stephen Arnold with the Enforcer signature. I don't know anything more than that at this point. I have sent a message to KGPE's facebook to try and acquire a few more details, but I have gotten nothing back as of yet.

  14.

Contessa Brewer was using an iPad tonight instead of using a paper script. Is this NBC trying to go green?

WTAJ is doing this in Altoona/Johnstown, PA. I've seen a few more stations do this. I've heard about some stations using a mouse to scroll through trough the teleprompter by themselves at their own speed. Maybe the iPad is the same type of deal.
