  1. 30+ year WJAC anchor Bill Brown announced this evening that he will retiring at the end of February. The market will miss him. What a great talent and incredible anchor. Here's to a happy retirement!

  2. WTAJ just started doing Forecast Firsts on every newscast this evening, not just the 11PM (where they initially did it since launching their HD newscasts in 2013). Are there any other Nexstar stations that just started implementing this change?

  3.

Let me guess, KNXV will announce she will be their replacement for Connie Colla in 3...2...1?

My guess is no. She just announced she is pregnant and she already has a few kids. Her husband "was presented with an opportunity he couldn’t pass up" in the Phoenix area.
  4. WTAJ morning anchor Angie Koehle had her last morning at the station this morning. She's moving to Phoenix with her family. She will be missed by the station and by all of the viewers.

No, he's arguing that may well NOT be News Image. I've been thinking the same thing.

There are a couple other themes in NMSA which are like that. For example, the WVEC 1987 cuts based on the Turn To signature - which are listed as Turn To News, but which could possibly be from someone else, because I think they sound just a little too cheap to be Gari.

I was supporting his fact, but I was just saying how vague it sounded. Regarding the whole Turn To... there are a lot of updates to that: the Australian one, the KYW one, the WMC one, the WVEC one, maybe even some more that I can't think of. I wish more was known about them.

Anyone want to speculate on KDKA in the 80s?

Conventional wisdom says News Image / News Image Plus from Tuesday.

I get that the signature matches.

But the signature also matches the notes of their 'KD and You' slogan.

The cuts they use don't match any used by other News Image stations...so it was a custom job. But by whom?

They did two versions - one around 1984, the other an update around 1987.

If the only argument is that the signature matches, then you could say that the package is "360" from 360 Music.

Well, for the market size it's not bad. At least they are not using the Fox 1998 package for their music like their sister

    ...

(KVRR's graphics aren't bad but they'd be so much better if they could use fonts other than Tahoma or Impact)

Those KVRR graphics almost look like a knock-off of Sinclair's Daily News graphics.

In my neck of the woods, WBZs Eric Fisher had initially milked the use of the truck. I haven't watched 4's 5 or 6:00 in a while but last October the SUV went up to Mount Washington, NH - 5000 feet above ground in some deep snow. It's been elsewhere in the viewing area. I like their approach. He seems to be the outdoor cat of a weatherman, likes to be out on the field than standing around a chroma wall/103" flat panel.

If you got a Chief meteorologist whose the outdoor cat like him, then it could be put into great use. Not sure Gannett would be able to implement in such effective way.

Eric Fisher is great. I was sad when I saw he left the Weather Channel. I am happy he does does things for CBS This Morning occasionally.

I understand the economics of it—and that American television is very much driven by economics—but the reason I say that is because it's embarrassing for a major (Big 3!) network affiliate, even in a DMA as small as Evansville, to completely lack local news.

I'm sure KDNL and WWJ do just fine without it, but the lack of a local newscast really dings the stations' credibility here on this forum. There's a reason we consider KDNL and WWJ to be jokes, and it has everything to do with their lack of solid local news.

NewsCentral was a joke. The stations still had a newscast, but I think it needs to go further than just having a newscast run by something like INN or whatever. The newscast being from the station helps, because that creates a sense of community. If it's a story that "hits home," then how is someone at INN going to cope with the news and feel the same way as someone in the specific DMA?
