  1. A great look at El Paso TV news in the late '80s and early '90s.
  2. It might not look half bad if they got some decent lighting and ditched the fugly checkerboard pattern.
  3. What exactly was the point of switching to that plain POS? The old logo was just fine.
  4. I'm surprised that WBIN's 6 PM newscast will not be a full hour with the second half hour providing local news as an alternative to ABC World News on channel 9. They air ET there now, but it's not like that couldn't be moved. But then again, it's very surprising that an also ran independent is this serious about starting a news operation. I've seen this movie before, and it doesn't end well. It's called WNHT, starring Boston real estate developer Thomas Flatley and a talented and agressive news team nobody watched. Except they had the benefit of being affiliated with CBS and the disadvantage of not being able to get carriage on cable systems. WBIN, on the other hand, has the advantage of must carry that might have saved WNHT and...very little else. Bill Binnie was better off keeping the INN produced newscast. Little watched as that was it wouldn't have bankrupted him like this effort probably will.
  5. WBZ has named a new news director. Gary LaPlante, previously an assistant news director at WFXT and before that a news producer at WHDH (among other career stops), starts August 11.
  6. The Boston Herald has reported that WBZ has fired ND John Verrilli. Unsurprisingly, ratings are believed to be the reason behind the decision. According to the Herald article, WBZ is third (out of 4 stations) in the evening and last in the morning. Assistant ND Sarah Burke has been installed as interim ND. My apologies for linking to the inexcusably s***** Herald site.
  7. To be clear, I do like the music NBC 10 used at that time.
  8. From the Bill Applegate era at CBS 2 in Chicago: Bush league crap, especially for a station whose ratings dominance could have once been accurately described as ridiculous.
  9. Here are is an open so f****** cheesy I feel like crackers. From NBC 10 in Philadelphia, News 10 First at 4 1999, featuring people on the street announcing the open:
  10. From a special WMUR aired in 2011, Remembering Challenger, a 1986 NewsNine Special Report open:
  11. I hope WMUR gets graphics like these. They have the beautiful diamond shapes of the Hearst graphics but they look different enough that viewers would be able to tell News 9 apart from NewsCenter 5.
  12. From Youtuber dzanello, WMUR News 9 Tonight, 9/15/99: WMUR has never looked better IMO. The custom theme by Michael Karp is also pretty good. The only thing I don't like about it is the beeping sound that can faintly be heard during the tease.
