  1. I'm pretty sure it is. Bottomline was practically the only source for reliable Kansas City media news until he stopped...but of course the only thing he ever really talked about is KMBC. He even admitted that he glorified them because they "deserved it." Anywho, I really don't think I'll like that Neville kid. His youth is painfully obvious, but then again, so is Michelle Apon's.
  2. Meredith: Ugh... :bang: did you guys purposely do this so that we would have to invest in your station and maybe do some renovations  too? sigh...
  3. But how is it humiliation? THat's the first time I've ever heard of viewers being angry about something like this. Generally the reaction is shock and disappointment over the employee that participated in whatever deplorable or illegal act that they did that resulted in arrest; followed by praise for their station to cover it, as it "gave them a sense of transparency" and "proved that just because you're in television doesn't mean that you're above 'TV law of things.'"
  4. Well this is apparently happening in 2014: http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/its-rise-to-shine-for-today_b209261#more-209261
  5. Did someone already mention this? I didn't see it anywhere. WPEC's news director Cathy Younkin has been fired. Doesn't sound as if she did anything good for the station at all. http://gossipextra.com/2014/01/03/cbs12-cans-news-director-kathy-younkin-3280/
  6. Yeah, it's really sad to see stations ridding themselves of all of these old people for young people who are cheaper and less experienced, but I feel like that in a couple decades it will be ironic if it's still happening, because the replacements will be order replacements for the generation of replacements that they were once in. (On a side note, KSHB has gone really young recently, but it seems to be working) either A) they're at some other TV station somewhere and have a contract they have to live out before they can leave or B] they're still in college. Kansas City has been hiring directly out of local universities recently. What I want to know is that if the first one won't start until April, when the hell will the second one start? These hires were obviously made a long time ago.
  7. An update to this: it's all official. Nichols chose to left after management tried to demote him to the weekend "suicide shift" of mornings and evenings and Teachman simply didn't have her contract renewed. They've hired a pair of "young meteorologists" that will both start later this year. What doesn't make sense though is the sudden speculation that he'll jump ship to KSHB, (where his former KMBC news director Brian Bracco is GM), especially since KSHB now has five meteorologists. They have no need for six. http://www.bottomlinecom.com/popular-kmbc-weather-guy-joel-nichols-departs/
  8. Joel Nichols has left KMBC as their morning meteorologist. He's been at the station since 1988. The station says that it was his choice. That's two relatively big losses for KMBC this year, with the first one being Larry Moore. There are also rumors* circulating that KMBC has also shown meteorologist Lisa Teachman the door. If true, that's the ousting of two meteorologists at once. *the source of this rumor isn't necessarily the most reliable place, but no one has come out and flatly denied it.
  9. This apparently happen, but I didn't see it mentioned anywhere on here: http://www.thewrap.com/today-show-good-morning-america-nbc-abc-ratings
  10. Did anyone see this? Most fascinating to me. http://www.24saltlake.com/media/kutv-reporter-passes-out-live-television/ I wanna know two things: 1) What exactly causes her to faint in high altitudes and very cold temperatures 2) Why they didn't cut away from the live shot the moment they realized she was staying on the ground and the guy was beginning to undo her skiis because it could have been serious. She handled it well though, trying to recover from it and continuing the interview.
  11. But...it's working. All of the changes everywhere, GMA and WN. They're working and catching up with NBC. Although to get back to the GMA part of this thread, apparently Today is closing the gap*. At least that's how TVNewser always likes to phrase it.
  12. What. WHAT? Robin Roberts is LESBIAN? Call me a dumb@ss but I honestly had no idea nor would I have ever guessed. No matter. It just surprised the hell out of me is all. However, am I a sinister person to believe that ABC/GMA will try to manipulate her coming out to attract even more people to them? Because the moment I read the headline I thought, Great. Now people will love GMA even more just because Robin Roberts came out. Edit: I just realized...not only did Robin Roberts come out, but for a good period of time, GMA had simultaneously, a gay meteorologist and a lesbian host. Maybe that's been the secret to their success all along.
  13. Well Larry Moore has officially left KMBC in Kansas City after 40 years. They have a ton of stuff on their Facebook page highlighting his departure and career. I also believe that KSHB aired a commercial wishing him farewell.
  14. are heart attacks written into their contract or something as being part of the job to be chief met there or what?
  15. Long time KMBC anchor Larry Moore is retiring at the end of the November sweeps. http://www.kmbc.com/news/kansas-city/kmbc-9-news-anchor-larry-moore-makes-special-announcement/-/11664182/22718222/-/cvcrlw/-/index.html?utm_source=hootsuite&utm_medium=facebook&utm_campaign=kmbc%2B9%2Bnews Correction: not retiring, simply becoming "Anchor Emeritus."
  16. Well late-night deadness at work boredom as revealed to me that 1) JD Rudd was essentially pushed out of KSN early and even made him take his last scheduled day off and 2) KSN is FINALLY preparing themselves for HD news. Only their weather segments are in HD. They will be by far the last station in the Wichita market to make the conversion, but it will still be several months yet before they do. That being said, KSNW will fully launch in HD sometime in 2014.
  17. KSHB has hired JD Rudd from KSNW in Wichita to be their fifth meteorologist. https://www.facebook.com/JDonTV
  18. What was his past like? A market like Kansas City picking up a news director that used to work in LA seems like a pretty big get to me.
  19. Larry Perret has been named the news director for KCTV in Kansas City. He used to be a news director in Los Angeles.
  20. Really...if they just changed the font of the '22' and didn't have 'WSBT' italicized...it would be a fine logo.
  21. Michelle Apon has joined KSHB as their new meteorologist. She comes from KOKH in Oklahoma City. She's the replacement for Kalee Dionne, their weekend meteorologist who was promoted up to their weekday morning meteorologist after only 3 or 4 months, as she replaced Brett Anthony who had been there for a 11 years and is now the chief down at KJRH in Tulsa.
  22. KAKE-TV is being sued. http://www.mediabistro.com/tvspy/fired-reporter-sues-kake-for-defamation-breach-of-contract_b102444
  23. You beat me to the punch, however Brett Anthony is still here. What I want to know though are what these "clashes" he said he and management had and what exactly they saw in Brett Anthony to lure him down there.
  24. Ha. I doubt Kelly Jones will be there for too long.
  25. KSHB's morning meteorologist Brett Anthony is leaving the station to become the chief meteorologist at fellow Scripps station KJRH in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
