He didn't say poor or lowly but it's probably true that regular employees don't have the means to afford much working for that company. Basically soon, there will be plenty of managers with even higher credit scores and purchasing power due to this Mickey Mouse way of doing things. It was such a wink wink, nod nod gesture directed towards his top managers and he didn't even try and hide it. Haaa

All in all, a big step down for the ex MG/Lin/Young stations. Lots of the word LOCAL tossed in for fluff and added creative flair. Wonder if Mardek1995 wrote the script for this??!? What a mess of an introduction for the newly acquired stations, as the standards of taking care of employees, definitely goes down. No surprise over the big step down. No employee stock option plans, less 401K employer match, less vacation time, lots of conforming to Nexstar guidelines... but moooooore SICK time! Employees will probably need to use every bit of that working for this company. If all else fails, just stumble around and chant local, Local, LOCAL a few times and things will magically appear to look up in your life! The smart ones will find a better company to work for or get out of the business.

I know this isn't what is supposed to be noticed as different, but boy oh boy, what a wacky ass mix of Overture and FOX O&O themes going on there, plus awful directing and mixing... All around bad effort no matter where it's being produced. Needs polish, snappier pacing and more. Horrendous!

Yes sir indeed! I wish we could find more Tuesday demos or full packs out in the wild errr umm station storage, especially the WISC "All We Are" stuff. I had that demo too and it was pretty awesome considering how dated it was and featured many themes like News 88.

Dating myself here, but I once had a cassette *ahem, GASP* with ALL of those cuts on it from Tuesday and they were are part of a long News 88 demo. I had that when I first started in the biz in the early to mid 90's. That 6:53 mark cut that you referenced was on there and it's almost as if that theme was a repurpose from the Network Music catalog. If you listen to the :25 second mark of News 88 on the NMSA it thematically matches up with the 2:13 bump in the video. Also the 11:43 bump shares some same melody with the same NMSA cut around 40 seconds in. They're all related, but some Tuesday packs did better than others, as you know, when it comes to having a strong logo that stands out.

True over the graphics, and I bet Arnold and the boys were popping some bubbly after the FCC approval was announced. Just a matter of months and all of the MG/LIN stations will switch over to a SAM/360 pack if they don't do so voluntarily. I don't predict many fights over that mandate besides a station like WAVY-TV10 and WOOD-TV. WAVY should have paid 615 to fully and totally buy-out the complete and total rights to the entire package before this deal went through. That would have been their only way to continue with the music long-term and to where Arnold could have updated it and kept the logo verbatim, without having to side-step around it with slight logo variations to keep 615/Warner-Chappell happy. I predict a few fights at WAVY, both over the music and the website just for starters. It'll be super surprising if their GM and a few other long-timers don't leave or get forced out by the end of the year.

I'm prolly way off, but Doppler Studios Atlanta (also producers of the WSB 1991 theme) come to mind, especially with the second YouTube clip. And behind the anchor portion of the second clip, I'm reminded of the WJLA 1992 Open, which I previously wondered if Doppler Studios had anything to do with. Also, wonder if Rhode Island based Star Trak Music (startrakstudios.com who composed their 1995 theme may have composed any earlier themes? According to their website, they've been around over 30 years, so either of these guesses may be a slim possibility! Checked through ASCAP and BMI and with BMI, StarTrak Music composer John Rametta only had one listing for WLNE, but he also listed a ton of individual package cuts separately as BMI composition entries, so there is really no way to know for sure if there wasn't other things made. Lots of rabbit holes here to jump in and out of. Maybe some others will chime in with some more guesses that get us in the right direction or with some confirmation somewhere over these two packs.

Sure wonder if it was a tiny one-off package from Arnold that was custom and never syndicated/marketed? It has some similiar stylings to some of his stuff back in the early 90's. Anyway, that's one opinion and it lines up with the fact that they had another Arnold custom package that they had used up until 96. You could always email them a clip of it and see if they recognize it.

Awesome! BTW, I knew this already and don't believe I've ever posted about it, but that WLBT theme started in 1984 and lasted until 1992. As a confirmation, Stribling posted in the comment section of another full newscast (Oct. 17, 1980) that it launched in '84. From Wilson's comment: "Channel 3 used (Firepower) for about five years until changing to something a bit more modern in 1984" Personal sidenote: I know that the theme was a custom production for WLBT when "Frank Melton / Civic Communications" took over the station that year and was recorded and produced in a Jackson area recording studio. The package was updated with an additional theme mix in the late 80's/early 90's for their morning and midday show, that was loosely based on the main theme, with hints of the same melody. The theme really held up great over the years considering it was a synthesizer and drum machine production! Perhaps, Wilson may be able to uncover a reel in their promo offices or some additional info/documentation on the theme if you or someone else happens to reach out to him. Exactly....well said eat.... there is bound to be some turbulent and choppy waters ahead for the media... Some folks can't seem to read between the lines. There's a reason why Sin***** is trying to cuddle and cozy up. I have a feeling it'll work for some, but not some great for other players. All in all, it may not be a fair process. haaaa

Watch them shimmy around and make a way to "lease" or otherwise run these stations without "technically" holding the licenses, until the deal gets settled one way or the other. That will happen before January 20th, my prediction. Contrary to what a lot of the media keeps repeating in their echo chamber, the incoming administration isn't the biggest fan of concentrated media and the taking away of market voices/perspective. Could be a very rough time for SOME of the media companies, over the coming months, than is being let on.

The logo looks fairly decent, with its retro 80's vibe to it. Even on a bad logo making day, it's still miles better than WEWS 5 or Cox's FOX25 Boston logo...... Sadly, it pains me to say all that considering it's a "Morris 'The Cat' Communications" station.

The theme reminds me A LOT of the 1991 WSB open as far as the music styling and that very newsy sound. I wonder if Cheryl Rogers who composed the theme for WSB 1991 open had a hand in this one? If not, it still sounds a lot like the Fairlight CMI Synth/Sampler sound that was used for the WSB composition. If she wasn't involved, it could have been an Atlanta "Doppler Studios" staff composer. Also, wonder if the open video animation/composites for both WSB 1991 and WJLA 1992 came out of Crawford Post / EQ Vance / John Christopher Burns in Atlanta? I see some similiar stylings there. Anyway, that's a couple of thoughts....

TServo, you are 100%, without any doubt, correct! I recall you and a few of us discussing this a couple of years ago inside this thread. I had a demo of the news package and vocal campaign from Hal many moons ago, as well as a long demo of his 200+ cut package for KTLA which is listed as the KTLA1990 News Theme in the NMSA. The WRTV 1990 listing is definitely VTS and the image campaign featured vocals by Sandi Patty. Makes sense. Like your thinking over that!! Yeah, seems like we've got just about definite proof that VTS did some kind of spinoff, v2, variation of the original and added an additional ending note to the signature.

Finally, a clean one minute closing cut of "News '80s" by VTS Productions was added to the NMSA site. I noticed musical stylings and instrumentation similar to the 1985 WAVY theme and hints of the WWLP-WANE-WLOX theme, which is listed as the "KTVW 1986 News Theme"... I still think the KTVW package was produced and released by VTS. One of these days, hopefully someone will uncover a music reel or something for the proof.
