  1. At 34:47, a news open voiced by Charlie Tuna! Odd seeing that right after I heard of his passing.
  2. The sad part is what they replaced it with. Aerial is such a cheap and uninspired theme.
  3. They were singing "That's what we're Four"; and I'd be stunned if that wasn't Klein& (stunned, I tell you).
  4. You are the height of just too muchery.
  5. A national-quality promo for a local station (WTMJ 1986).
  6. That's what I was thinking, too. I have a hunch Brendan's headed to Bay News 9; but it's just a hunch.
  7. Sounds like the Cliff's Notes version of Tired TV Terms.
  8. Here's a quote from his FB post: Sounds similar to what Martha Sugalski did when she left WESH; we all know what she ended up doing.
  9. They had enough money to spring for a good news package (Non-Stop's First News), and an experienced anchorman (former KMOX-TV anchor Steve Schiff). They clearly had high hopes.
  10. It's all about access; in this case access to that sweet, sweet campaign cash.
  11. Don't know how many stations were still making "There Goes That News Van, Again" promos in the late 90s; but KVBC decided that the 1998 public wouldn't find silent home film reels too dated.
  12. Speaking of WNGE, here's a station ID from 1981. Typically I wouldn't post something so short, but take a listen to who's doing the voiceover... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RKuCBA5NYHM
  13. If only GE had held on and invested in them like they did with KCNC. It seems like they were in the process of doing that, but then the sale to Knight-Ridder...
  14. A very rare WJXT open from sometime in the 70s; as part of a larger retrospective on Tom Wills.
  15. Lottery numbers themselves are public domain, so 6 will still be able to show the numbers. Fox 29 probably fought hard to get the drawings, I doubt they were the lottery's first choice. Aside from that and WPXI, all the other incumbent stations kept the drawings. WNEP, for example, still has them. They've been very good to the lottery; they air every drawing, including the multistate games, live. Most stations air Powerball and Mega Millions on tape delay.
  16. One has to wonder: was WEWS (which also called their newscasts TV-5 Eyewitness News) used as a middleman to get ABC's golden voice to a non-ABC affiliate?
  17. WAGA Open from 1988. Warning: your mind will be blown. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MkxGyftjvos
  18. ...and Match Game '90 host Ross Shafer in the second half. What a fall he took.
  19. Speaking of KOTV, here's a open from 1996 or so with "any two of the following".
  20. 'Ol Joe sure hit the nail on the head about the stadium location.
  21. Cedar Rapids news from 1993, begins with a KGAN TVbD open with Real News. Speaking of KGAN, here's a brief clip of Bob Hilton anchoring the news (yes, game show fans, that Bob Hilton).
  22. Couldn't agree more. That cut of On Your Side has been near the top of my news theme wish list for a while.
