There's a clean version of that open/theme somewhere in a demo on YT...
Vimeo actually...

Holy moly, it's even more KCNC, and from just months before the Newswire open, too!
That almost sounds like Image IV or potentially VI, not VII and most certainly not VIII! I was just thinking today "we need more Colorado Evening News opens"...
(Image VIII doesn't even sound like an Image theme, anyway...)
That Rocky Flats channel has more reels but nothing new.
Maybe "WSB 1992 News Theme" would be a more appropriate name.

Now, here's something you'll really like. A WTVT news hour from 1980, with "co-anchor for a day" then-Governor Bob Graham. He did O.K., in my opinion, just not what I'd call "big market material". Becoming a senator was a much better career move. Also, look for long, long-time NYC reporter Lou Young.

You heard the countdown; it's over.

Why not just bring them up through the groups farm systems....
...and then let us trade them between groups and cities.
just like baseball.
batter-up!
(I will trade 3 old male reporters for 1 young wx bunny)
Give us a MILFy weekend anchor and Stormy, the Weather Schnauzer; and you got yourself a deal.

I dunno on that one. KGET picked it up the next year. That might be an oddity.
News themes hopping within the same market isn't unprecedented. WLOS had Counterpoint for a while; but when they replaced it, WSPA picked it up not too long after.
-
Well that was cheesy...and unusual. Was the station in that much risk of losing their network?
Maybe ABC was threatening to move to WKYT. A similar move was about to happen in Louisville.

Has anybody really given the KPRC 1984 Theme a good listen? It really sounds a lot like Telesound, doesn't it?

I was watching an old WJW promo from 1985 on YT, and I began to think that WJW News Theme from Michael Randall Music from 1985-1995 is related
to this promo. I could be wrong though.
That promo song is definitely Jake Holmes, someone much better known for commercial jingles.

This predates Symphony by about a year.
I know; that's just what it sounded like to me.
There's an unknown WTLV package in ASCAP known as "The Works" by Shelly Palmer. This theme certainly merits that title.Shelly Palmer didn't really have a distinct sound the way most news music composers do. PNP sounded nothing like Brave New World, which sounded nothing like Millennium 3. WTLV's 1988 package could certainly be "The Works", but the same could be said for WTLV's 1991 theme. Another news music mystery.

One of my favorite news themes. Ever.
Sounds like a remix of Symphony from Stephen Arnold.

The pre-show bumper music sounds an awful lot like the music from these WFSB promos; which were presumably by Klein&.

Some WINK stuff from 1985; know what I mean, Vern?

A short-lived KMBC open from 1994 that was sort of an update to their 1992 open, sort of not:
Hello there, E.Q. Vance.
-
That's not all. There's KTVK's morning newscast from the same day. In an era before Good Morning Arizona...
He had just posted that.

KXTV 1984 Promos (featuring the KXTV 1986 Theme).

Former WDAF anchor Cynthia Smith talks wistfully of her days there.

WCAU, Philadelphia; 10 p.m., 1977:
Wow. I never knew WCAU had the lottery drawings.

Speaking of the 80s...KOTA's Newsline, from June 25, 1987. What an odd open...
You could be forgiven if you thought this was a Canadian open. No channel numbers, just a title.

Scripps is making another aquisition: Cracked.com. I can't wait for The Now to be replaced with the daily Shut-Ups.

Another great newsmat set in that KMGH clip.
What's the running tally on that....
KOMO - Seattle
WPXI - Pittsburgh
KTRK - Houston
WLWT - Cincinnati
WTVD - Raleigh
All big three networks represented, and don't forget KOVR and KSNW (I think KUTV had it, too).

Something from 1983 about some archaic football game, complete with a WTSP open from 1983.
WTSP 1985 Christmas tape.

TVSpy reported today -
Charlotte Station Loses Top Spot After 25 Year Run
This proves it is possible for Davey to bring down Goliath - but only when Davey has a quality news product to offer.
Don't worry WPVI we already know - Brien Kennedy, you are no Davey.
I don't know if I'd call what happened in Charlotte a case of Goliath being taken down by David. More like down Goliath being taken down by Macho Man Randy Savage.

Behind the scenes at Thames News. Going in, you might expect something special, even whimsical, in the news gathering process at the legendary Thames Television in London. If that's the case, prepare to be disappointed; Thames made news exactly the same way as, say, WSAZ or KFVS did here, stateside. I guess that's supposed to be expected; no point in reinventing the wheel.
