  1. It makes perfect sense, but would Nexstar be willing to pay someone of his caliber?
  2. Russ Offenbach, the voice of WFLA-TV and Winn-Dixie was also the voice of the Disney World monorail.
  3. I'm pretty sure Jeffrey Osborne also did the "Show Me 5" promo song for KSDK in the mid-80s.
  4. KDFW, too. The news theme and promo song were also heard in San Francisco, but on different stations. KTVU used the news theme for their weekend 6:00; and KOFY had the promo.
  5. I used to think that Sinclair represented everything wrong with broadcasting. Now, I see that Sinclair represents everything wrong with everything. At long last, Mr. Smith, have you left no sense of decency?
  6. It’s the sale we all feared. No, not Cox; Television City. The current productions will remain for at least five years, after that: who knows. https://www.broadcastingcable.com/news/cbs-selling-television-city-studio-complex-for-750m
  7. There's also this, which looks even worse. But it's also a microscopic market compared to DFW.
  8. Were there WTVT fans in Montreal?
  9. And may I add: Peter Thomas on the V/O!
  10. CNN, like all of cable news, is an entertainment product at it's core. Why do you think CNN went with wall-to-wall coverage of that missing plane? Cable news is there to make money; the most money possible. All-day coverage of the president's tweets is what they believe will make them the most money, so that's what they cover.
  11. This quote really hits the nail on the head: [Marvin Zindler] says TV news is a "kindergarten game of show and tell. You show people and then you tell them what it is. Journalism does not show in the dictionary, I don't care what dictionary you have, as having anything to do with television or electronic media. I say it's show business and they all get mad."
  12. Sorry for gloating, but FIRST!
  13. I think it’s a first in the Eastern Time Zone; the only other one I know of is WTMJ.
  14. And now, and now, and now, and now for the big, big, big, big, big, big F!
  15. The Florida News Network has always fascinated me. If I remember correctly, it germinated from from WTSP’s desire to compete with WTVT’s recent linkup with Hubbard's national CONUS satellite network (you could always tell a CONUS affiliate apart by whether they called their satellite truck “NewStar”). I’m pretty sure WPTV joined not too long later.
  16. If their new news philosophy is now “be more like Dispatch”, then they may be alright.
  17. Back in the real early 90s, WTVT branded as "Your 24-Hour News Source"; while WFLA branded (though not as prominently) as "Your 24-Hour News Station" (jump to 0:57). I don't know if any legal action was ever taken, and WFLA ditched the slogan pretty quickly (along with the magnificent graphics that went with it). WTVT kept the tagline until the switch to Fox.
  18. It sounds like a Peters theme to me. What do you think?
  19. Looks like the NMSA has declared that the WPLG 1985 Theme is a Gari work. Sounds at least plausible.
