What are the odds of Standard Media acquiring Tegna? And If by any chance they do... what changes you would see if Standard takes over the company?
I have no clue about the odds. [The company formerly known as Gannett] is too big for any of the other broadcasters to swallow whole, so it would have to be hedge fund or private equity or some other company with limited broadcasting interests. If Standard buys them, you're definitely going to see a "back-to-basics" approach system-wide, not unlike what we see at the former-MG and LIN stations. This will benefit the "how do you do, fellow kids" stations like WTSP and WKYC, which could use a quick culture change. For stations like KARE and WBIR, who haven't lost all of their former luster yet; it may prove to be a downgrade. More everyday stories about robberies and house fires, less of those "slice of life" features.

Wasn't sure where to post this-This is new to me, and maybe others have seen this, but it's a fascinating interview with meteorologist Dennis Feltgen who most notably worked at KSTP but also had stints at WSB, WPEC, KARE and WTSP. He talks about his experience working for "old man" Hubbard and then Gannett, then his time in Tampa where he apparently was slated to replace Dick Fletcher, and his career since his TV days. Really down to earth guy.

Fascinating interview.

In the Tampa Bay area, there were rumors circulating that WLCY would lose its ABC affiliation and WFLA was in talks to pick it up. That was about the time Rahall sold the station.
All of the conditions that led ABC to switch to KSTP, WSB, WSOC, WTLV, WSAV, WBRZ, and KOMU were present in the Tampa Bay market. I wonder what made WFLA decide to stay with NBC; and WIS and WSFA for that matter.

I also just learned about W call letters west of the Mississippi
What’s even more amazing, WDAZ went on the air in 1967; long after the K/W line was moved.

Jim's new place is the Lititz Shirt Factory. It hasn't opened yet, but they are restoring a place to be the new brewery.
As for going with 1 investigator, they seem to be pretty content with replacing in kind rather than eliminating any positions. The only one that's a little unusual is Mike Marza, whose role seems extra. (As retirements go up, that will probably change.) Sam Champion replaced Bill Evans, Sam Ryan replaced Laura Benkhe, Derick Waller replaced Dray Clark, so on and so forth.
I hope Robin Baumgarten gets invited to the grand opening.

The music in the WISC newscast must have been distributed to CBS affiliates. It was used in a 1981 WTVJ promo.
I heard it in a WBTV promo, too. It has an uncanny resemblance to NBC’s Go Where The News Is promo that premiered not long after Steve Sohmer left CBS for NBC.

And...a news open using the NBC TV-Radio Telepulse theme.
Weird, considering KGBT was only a secondary NBC affiliate.

@Ntropolis This is the theme KIMT and WTOK used! Seems like WBTW was using it a bit earlier — 1988, compared to the other clips which are from 1990.
The Coast???
It sounds like a Network Music track, to me.

On WJTV, specifically.

WTVF was Journal originally no?
The initial plan from Landmark was to sell WTVF to Bonten. Needless to say, it's good thing they went with Journal instead.

Considering the changes that just happened at 13 now, I definitely want to feel nostalgic. It hasn’t helped that this is the week I’ve moved into college.
Sticking with more KUTV, here’s a rather creepy promo on them going stereo in 1986:
Why do I have a sudden urge to watch Supermarket Sweep?

I went to YouTube just now and saw some news stories about the Wichita Wings indoor soccer team. Well, just to find out, KSNW's 1985 news theme began before 1985. It started out sometime in the early 1980s, say 1983 which is the same time KETV in Omaha used the KSNW theme.
If you watch the video at 9:54, you can hear a few seconds of KSNW's classic news theme. Six seconds later at 10:00, we hear a drum beat in the theme that is reminiscent of the WRAL/KTXL 1982 news theme. So, this leads me to believe that the composer of the KSNW theme may have also done the WRAL/KTXL theme around that timeframe. But...but, I may be wrong plus it is not known who composed the theme.
You know what the KSN Theme also sounds a lot like? 9 Country/11 Country.

I remember speculating quite a long time ago that SOTB was a Gari composition. I must have said that on YouTube or something, though, because I can’t find me saying that here. The instrumentation in many cuts sound a lot like Hello News; still others sound like So Good To Turn To. I guess I’m not crazy after all.

Also... Tom Negovan in Winnipeg! (Only in the open, though.)
Looks like Phil Collins is making his way to the NMSA.

A tour of Perth station TVW7 in 1982, hosted by local personality Peter Dean. It's interesting to see that the tapes and films used to broadcast programs and movies were flown from the eastern states (NSW and VIC) to WA. Perth was a 3-station market at the time (the others were ABW2 and STW9). It didn't get new channels until later in the decade, with the launch of SBS and NEW10.
WNAC also used that jingle in the waning days of RKO ownership.

FTVLive is saying that a news anchor was killed in a plane crash near New Orleans Lakefront airport. Scott is doing the responsible thing and not reporting the name until the official word is released.

You all better sit down for this one, I just found the full 1 minute version of WFLA/WXFL's The Spirit of Tampa Bay song! And on a tape of mine too!
And @Info Junkie, since this is such a huge find, I give you full permission to upload this onto your channel....and the spirit grows stronger every day.

Here’s a treat. WTVF circa 1977. Equipment bloopers. A very Scrippsy set decades before they’d actually own this station. There’s Chris Clark, of course; and, is that Dave Kaylor in Music City?!

It's been over a month, but it's time to check into a news theme that needs to be identified.
Does anyone know who composed this theme?
Sounds a lot like Peters to me.

If it weren’t for the live shot, you’d think this newscast was from 1969, not 1979.
