  1. Nice find! I'm digging that use of Counterpoint. A little weird to link it with 1993, though. They used quite a few cuts. Speaking of which, I'm linking to one particular cut of the 1990 theme I haven't heard before: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-FxRXPXcUm4 — the worst Turn To lyrics ever? KXLY, 1985
  2. KATV 1994 (News Central): http://www.youtu.be/5TLc8pnMep0 WFMY 1996 (PNP): The WFMY open is kinda odd in the choice of cut.
  3. WAWS, late 1996 11pm. This was the first night that WAWS was producing its own news: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQmjUqArd3o
  4. WFLD 1988. Did they have better ratings back then? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=21e2O1bZDV0 Get a load of that top!
  5. WDYR, 1999. VO is Carey Byars (according to uploader). This upstart indie news operation did not last long. The station is now Cornerstone Television.
  6. KHTV, 1990: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HsmUJMuZZrQ KXLY, 1998 5pm: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dy417kbrCfY
  7. KREM 1988 11pm: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LIiiFAcTLPc Not sure if I shared this one. It's a promo (essentially a redone news open) for KREM in 1995 with Brave New World and a John Christopher Burns-designed graphics package: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-rEjFm4Vvbs If Crommy's firing back up the Spokane open machine, it means good news.
  8. KXLY 1987 weekend open (Great News Package): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UVqvRQzoSZE It's been a while since the guy posted an open.
  9. Ever wanted proof that WJAR used, of all packages, Stephen Arnold's Building a Better Texas? We now have that plus a long close from this rare custom package. Also some WPRI and WCVB stuff. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AgpiVlzlLBQ
  10. And NewsActive3 regales us to a 79th edition: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5KG8hPrJoDY That WTHR photog promo is just weird. And there are even some Phoenix news items to gulp it all down.
  11. Another 15-minute video...it can only be the NewsActive 3 Collection! This time, part 78, with everything from a WHP open with two logos to a WDAF 1984 open, a KSEE promo with "News People" (oh, that's new!), two KOMU opens, a bunch of WTMJ stuff, and a WXYZ "Made in Detroit" promo featuring the making of the circle 7. (Did that move to China too?)
  12. KNSD, 1991 11pm: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VNx0qQmSnkg
  13. Before Jim Heath dumped his collection of old Phoenix news opens, that guy had most everything that we had from Phoenix. He has a KPHO promo on there with Scott Chapin's voiceover (in Phoenix, big voiceover names never really caught on with the exceptions of Charlie Van Dyke, Brian Lee and David Kaye – no John Young or Doc Morgan, and John B. Wells, Paul Turner, and Scott had short stints with local stations).
  14. Do you like TV camera batteries falling through your porch? In the perfect side meal to all the 17 (First Coast) News stuff... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VEmL9aBGygs
  15. There's more, more, more: KMGH's 10pm news after the affiliation switch from World News Now: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kvDJ2ldokvA Three full Phoenix newscasts, including this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3sjMYx7bm5I A KNSD open from the late 1990s is also there.
  16. A delayed "NBC 24 News at 11" from WNWO, 1998 (though I have a nagging feeling it's two years old graphically). TVbD work when FF Meta was way, way in vogue. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFgS7KU-OHQ
  17. The debut WNCN newscast, September 4, 1995 (with a 3D-heavy open): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XZ5Dpy1BgRY
  18. Yeah, I knew what the first three were. (They're not in the NMSA, though) #4 (WSFA) is a BIG mystery because... -It's from 1999. The only theme we know that WSFA used between 1996 and 2003 was a package called "Alabama's News Source", a custom composition by Ralph Ford. -We don't even have a single sample of it. (We may want to ask: there is an email address on his very sparse website. But given the date, I have a hunch that it really is this package.
  19. Some of that stuff I've never seen or heard before, namely the WTVY, WJHG, WSFA, and WTNZ packages. (The WSFA package in particular. This might be the custom "Alabama's News Source" package, for which the NMSA does not even have a raw music sample. The date, 1999, is correct.)
  20. WTVT 11pm open with the sax cut of Brave New World, 1992: Very much like what WTVJ had in 1988 IMO. There's more in that channel too that's new in the past few hours.
  21. WSEE Newswatch 35 Weekend from 1991 (new theme, not Hello News):
  22. @TexasTVNews: If it's the one from NewsActive3 part 24, it's from June 30, 1994. Interestingly enough, that day, KPHO and CBS cut a deal. I would like to see it. KSAZ from 1994 is one of my favorite eras of any TV station ever. They were doing things right in the design realm. Like, really right. Like, nobody can ever match them right (they're not even using an open on weeknights, just a cold "Fox 10 News at 9" and right into the headlines).
  23. There's more Phoenix stuff where that came from, though not much. Enough to say that KTSP used that news theme right up through its 1992 rebrand, though, and to say Al Vanik really was the voice of KTSP for a time (many major VO talents – Scott Chapin, Paul Turner, Al Vanik – are rare to find in Phoenix materials and only turn up for a couple of years).
  24. It's been several months, but there's now Part 74 from NewsActive3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJDGQRecj9Q
  25. Though we've seen the open before, nobody's seen this unique juxtaposition. KIRO, 1991: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1BT3h5l8PY The ID is more associated with the last package and has a Roger Thompson VO. The open is actually a little different (the background shots behind Brown and Procaccino would be replaced by November) visually than the one we had, though it has the same VO and graphics. Plus, what might be (not sure, don't know this market that well enough) a weekend open from KING in 1991: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0n7qSrB6InQ (different anchor lineup than all known video opens with this package)
