  1. Look at the First Coast News logo, they have both next to each other. In the open half the peacock is off screen and half the ABC logo on the other.
  2. Some larger stations (and networks) have writers still - does WBBM?
  3. The FCC could be if they have uplink trucks and earth stations. When CNN/Time Warner was bought by AT&T they sold all their earth stations and mobile trucks (but permanently leased them back) specifically to avoid any FCC intervention.
  4. So MSNBC had on Philip Crowther reporting from Caracas, Venezuela. He was listed as an Associated Press International Affiliate Reporter. So how is that different from a regular reporter or is he a reporter that is designated for doing live shots for various media entities?
  5. I like the KTUL opens. They’re different but neat.
  6. Okay, so I wasn’t going crazy there was a 3x3 immediately next to the weather center. I mean I get the allure of two chroma key walls, they can cut straight to traffic without the meteorologist having to walk off screen with just a quick swipe. NBC seems to love their studios having five cameras and lets face it the main presentation area can barely fit the three robos. Probably the only reason they haven’t gotten the Ross Cambots is they take up a larger floor footprint. On a slightly unrelated note that stylized golden peacock backdrop seems to be in use in WNBC, KXAS, WMAQ and KNSD. I can see why they may use that especially if the city backdrop cameras are dark at night. Stations like WCAU which have a great waterfront camera that gets morning light and WRC’s White House or Capitol Dome ones always look good as they are lit.
  7. Okay I see it clearly now. But wasn’t the main green screen adjacent to the weather center retractable and covered a 3x3 monitor array?
  8. There is this one weird area on the WMAQ studios where there are actually two chroma screens at about a 45° angle from one another each with screens at the end. It could be coming from the secondary screen which is much smaller and is lit a little less.
  9. That’s pretty cheap if they are distributing a show through the TVU network. They’d have to uplink it anyway for those out of the TEGNA station group. Then you have the signal quality and latency issues of transmitting a show over the public internet. I known they distribute news content (breaking news feeds or live shots of national news) for distribution where PQ isn’t needed. Edit: Here’s some info on how DBL uses TVU it’s a secondary feed, they use it for “satellite tours” for TEGNA stations before the show, and live hits during the show. https://www.thebroadcastbridge.com/content/entry/12538/tegnas-daily-blast-live-finds-new-path-for-multi-station-live-contribution
  10. I imagine DBL will not be affected unless for some reason TEGNA decides to decommission their uplink dishes at KUSA. I don’t think there’s an outside distributor for the show so TEGNA would be doing it all. I’m not sure how national commercials are rolled whether it comes from a master control source or straight from the production gallery.
  11. Some of them are pretty amazing. One had two hops over various mountains before reaching the town which then had a main translator and two rebroadcasters from that. I’d be curious about the latency and the additional compression as some districts squeeze two or more stations + their sub channels on the translator.
  12. There’s some joke in there about one of the seven deadly sins - gluttony and a buffet owned by a church. Also this line is interesting:
  13. Didn’t know it was a law. Surprising.
  14. Why is Chicago so expensive? Is there some city ordinance where union shops must be used or all the places are union?
  15. I’m guessing they probably wanted to keep a 16:9 aspect ratio and a smaller version would not fill the area the previous monitors filled.
  16. I imagine it’s because you have a captive audience - they have to see the ad for local weather. If it plays when local forecast is over people may not pay as much attention.
  17. Worth mentioning I’ve seen other NBC stations use the same exact style backdrop of course with the cityscape and the branding changed. I know it’s done in Chicago and I think DFW as well.
  18. That’s a very nice ticker. Wish WBFF got that one. Their current two line one looks very awkward especially when the second line is empty and has odd animations.
  19. @TheRob back to back posts made within a certain time frame (10 min) are automatically merged.
  20. I believe so. It’s a commercial station and I imagine if the university completely subsidized its operation the others would complain to the FCC.
  21. I agree with the statements you make. I just think it’s surprising that in DMA #1 there was no one doing traffic or perhaps trained on the system.
  22. That’s ridiculous in a market such as NYC. Surely they have another reporter that could do traffic or had her cut a few segments of anchoring to prepare the reports (or is NYC a large enough where there are traffic producers).
  23. The article and quotes are carefully worded. It say she will be likely leaving Access. However they said this: At the very minimum it means she will be with NBC until her contract runs out. However if she let go of Access I’d imagine she is looking at other avenues.
  24. It seems to me that none of the newscasts added for the last election cycle were dropped as I was expecting a few to do.
