  1. I'm sure you know that the Modells no longer own the Ravens. I don't think Sinclair is even thinking of this as anything other than a standard program buy and if they preempted network air time they would get hell from the network as this isn't a breaking news/sports situation.
  2. My guide still lists the 2PM slot as Paid Programming and 2:30PM as Derm Exclusive! I'm thinking maybe one reason the logo is at the top of the page is that they negotiated directly with Hunt Valley for the programming time and his organization was sent back this list of airings. It's a bit interesting that they are paying all this money to air this "documentary" and they couldn't find a better way to list the air dates and times. Also I realize he probably negotiated this with Sinclair simply because of the geographic reach but WMAR has been his media parter for his "Carson Scholars Program" as year after year they are the only ones who advertise the scholarship. Keeping with the Ben Carson theme WJZ is airing promos for their 11PM news on will he or won't he run for president.
  3. I'm reading the FCC document and it appears that they have to ensure reasonable programming prices to other MVPD (cable companies) and to make any content Comcast makes available to its subscribers available to other MVPD at a fair price. Maybe they just have to go through the motions to show that they charge X amount to their subscribers so that other MVPD will have to pay that amount if they want the feed to comply with the regulations.
  4. Here's an interesting tidbit of information: Comcast's website lists in December they have to renegotiate the carriage of Telemundo's delayed feed that's carried on their Hispanic tier. I wonder why they have to renegotiate carriage with their own broadcast networks? http://xfinity.comcast.net/learn/programming/
  5. I'm not sure if this is the appropriate place to post this but I don't know where else to put this sad news. Marianne Bannister's daughter, Claire Marie Wagonhurst, passed away October 16 at age 17 from melanoma. Marianne stated that her daughter developed the cancer as a result of hormonal changes caused by puberty. Claire was recently accepted into the University of Alabama and planned on attending the school next year. I came across this news because I wondered why I haven't seen Marianne Bannister on WBFF lately. Her WBFF fan page hasn't had any updates since mid June. I assume she has been on leave since July. My prayers are with her and her family during this difficult time. http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/obituaries/bs-md-ob-claire-wagonhurst-20141020-story.html
  6. Yes I saw that live but I'd like to think that the average person would no urinate in front of a hot camera minutes away from his live hit. I would like to think that they would a move to the wooded area out of frame. I mean the guy was perfectly centered on screen. Maybe he was using his phone and didn't have the touch screen gloves. I know I have put one glove between my legs as I have to free my hand to get mail from a locked mailbox. Plus I don't know what man would risk getting his gloves covered in piss right between his legs. If anything I'd stick it in my armpit if I had to urinate.
  7. The only reason why I would think ABC News would want to take over the production of The View is to increase their revenue. Morning shows have been said are what finances the rest of the news division. For example in 2011 Today brought in $485 million in revenue while GMA brought in $299 million. Now I'm guessing The View will add $75 million of revenue to ABC's coffers.
  8. Who knows when it will be replaced? What I'd like to know is why they aren't temporarily using NBC News/MSNBC's camera that's permanently pointed at the Empire State Building? That camera should be on their router and is still in working order. The only difference is that I believe WNBC's camera is a PTZ where the networks' locked in place (unless it's the other way around).
  9. Those two were the only logos that I have (masters of) that have a larger vertical logo in addition to a horizontal logo. But ideally that is how I would like to see the lower thirds layer out.
  10. Okay here's the quick mock up that I had in mind for a tiny change in the Gannett Graphics package. The first image will be used when they are live on scene or have an exclusive story. The second image will be used when they are live in the studio and do not need to include a live bug so the logo will change to the bigger version. After the anchor's introductions are done and are not needed on screen that row will merge the two columns to for supplementary information as level 2.
  11. PLEASE DELETE. I tried doing this in word but nothing work.
  12. What I would like to see done is for them to place the time and temperature down in the ticker, place the LIVE bug (you could also use the location to denote exclusives as well) where the the and temp was previously and finally make a larger area for the stations logo and hashtag through the upcoming story bar. I'm on my iPad but thinking of this as a text based version of the table where the station is either live on scene or has an exclusive: INFORMATION BAR LEVEL 1 LIVE/EXCLUSIVE BUG INFORMATION BAR LEVEL 2 LOGO/HASHTAG UPCOMING STORY 1, STORY 2 & STORY 3 LOGO/HASHTAG TICKER W/ HEADLINES, WX, TRAFFIC TIME/TEMP Here's how I would visualize the graphics if they were relying on prerecorded packages and I plan on using the LIVE bug space for a larger logo that changes sizes/orientations as needed: INFORMATION BAR LEVEL 1 LOGO/HASHTAG INFORMATION BAR LEVEL 2 LOGO/HASHTAG UPCOMING STORY 1, STORY 2 & STORY 3 LOGO/HASHTAG TICKER W/ HEADLINES, WX, TRAFFIC TIME/TEMP
  13. You almost seem like the updates that G3 plans on rolling out seems to be based on the MOS coding behind the scenes, seeing as you state that it is not a relaunch. Correct me if I'm wrong but don't the other Gannett stations use Deko for graphics?
  14. I occasionally watch the live stream of WPVI and it appeared to me that Adam Joseph looked like he lost a bit of weight. I hope he's okay and it's just from having a baby.
  15. To give Gannett credit they were one of the first stations to launch HD newscasts in 2005 (compared to WNBC which launched a year later and was the first in NY). He will need to come up with a better slogan than "the next generation of news."
  16. From the looks of their schedule it looks like it was done solely because they don't have any newscasts since 11PM the prior night giving them 18 hours to install and test the graphics and work out any kinks. I am assuming that since they do not have a morning newscast at all they do not do any local cutaways on CBS This Morning.
  17. There have been things that were posted on public websites like Vimeo or the networks PR sites and consequently have been picked up by TV news website that have caused it to be removed. I can think of two examples where this has happened the first was the current CBS O&O graphics and a demo reel of The Weather Channel package that was released months before the rebrand was rolled out.
  18. ABC World News has completely ignored covering the mid term elections since September 1 while CBS Evening News has had 14 reports and NBC Nightly News 11. http://www.politico.com/blogs/media/2014/10/study-abc-world-news-ignores-the-midterms-197487.html?hp=r3
  19. Sounds like she liked being a big fish in a small pond and now she's a tadpole in the ocean.
  20. I believe he was referring to the fact that televisions and websites in general can tell who referred them to their website. So if I posted a link to NBC10's website they if they were so so inclined find out who referred someone to NBC10. Most TV stations use real time analytical software to display on a screen in the newsroom what stories are gaining traction and the top 10 websites sending traffic their way. With all that being said I think that cbs2newengland was coming from by saying we shouldn't advertise to the stations the things that we talk / post here. Because some of the stuff we discuss is a bit inside baseball and we won't want anyone to loose their jobs if an employer found out about this. P.S. cbs2newengland check you private messages.
  21. I didn't realize they took down the video until a week latter they did it because I don't always use youtube. Luckily for me they uploaded the promo on their youtube channel:
  22. Yep, I got a copy right takedown notice for a simple promo (that was quite good) from Hearst. I now have one strike against me on YouTube. Oddly it was the only one that I didn't write in the description for discussion on TVNT. I moved some others to private where they could be seen by linking but then went public again. I did watch five minutes of the 4pm and 5pm newscasts and found them good. They didn't overhype and delivered it with no intonation of the voice to make it sound scary or serious but it did seem like they were trying too hard to be calm. It seemed like a good newscast.
  23. Sounds like WLII will turn into a Univision equivalent of CW+ where those stations just take the feed and don't do anything with it. I would also imagine Telemundo PR expanded their news output because of the overall expansion of news. But wasn't some expansion of minority content required by the Comcast NBCU deal? I'd imagine some employees will be hired by WKAQ.
  24. I was going to post a thread about this but forgot. The way he said it made it sound like two people were retiring rather than being fired. As for the sportscaster I wonder if this could be considered wrongful termination if he had a clean record. This makes me wonder if he went off script leaving the persons in the booth blindsided or if it was placed in the rundown and a producer signed off on it?
  25. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if those webinars are recorded videos posted to a BlackBoard type of site. I would think that it would get expensive having to pay overtime for the G3C to have a staffer on hand for at least 58 TV stations/ sessions (I'm assuming some stations would need more than one session.)
