    Welcome to First Alert 4.

This is absolutely awful. First, the fact that they are using red tends to indicate Breaking News, which is exactly what Alert insinuates. This is why First Alert Weather has always struck me as bad branding for weather too. You're going to burn out your audience if all news product is branded as "First Alert" instead prioritizing the content. Ultimately, having clear brand and design language is really needed to inform viewers and boost ratings... This won't do it.

As someone who worked for a station bought by Coastal Television only to get terminated 2 weeks after the fact. LEAVE....NOW!!!!!!!!!!!

They come in with all of these promises saying they will make the newsroom much better, invest in a lot of new equipment, provide better resources, the CEO (Bill Fielder) who is also a politician (if that gives you any idea as to what kind of person he is) will act like he is your best friend, has your interest at heart, then when he takes over he eliminates about 90% of the newsroom staff. He will offer you a severance of 1 weeks pay and an extra weeks pay if you sign paperwork promising not to discuss what happened. Spoiler alert, none of us did, and we all took to the competition and newspaper.

This company makes Sinclair look like a 5 star company to work for. The guy who owns this is seriously scum.

To those who work at KVRR and KQDS, get your resume and reel ready and be prepared to be on the chopping block if you do not leave immediately.

    Red flags here.

    1. The station owner is a POLITICIAN. That’s a disaster waiting to happen.

    2. He fires more than half of the news crew the station started with.

    3. You WILL end up surrendering and working for news stations in other cities.

    4. Your budget for newscasts goes DOWN THE DRAIN.

Don’t be like KVRR/KQDS. (I sound like one of those children’s advice posters lol)

First of all, being a politician should bar you from owning any journalism entity. Journalists investigate public officials and hold them to account of the public interest. Republican or Democrat, politicians shouldn't invest in those that hold them accountable. It's a conflict of interest.

However, not all politician is the same. Don't paint with a broad brush. Those who follow the letter of law have no issue being held to account. It is those that are vehemently opposed to accountability that are the ones that are abusing our institutions and laws that are here to protect us. If organizations like Sinclair Broadcast Group and Bill Fielder (a party politician directly), are openly interested in curtailing the accountability that journalism is intended to enforce, then you can easily tell who is on the right and wrong side of the people and easily tell for which political parties they support. Period.

Let's hope Move Closer to Your World doesn't get yanked off the air. And let's hope those Happy People visuals don't go away either. All in favor of those new ABC O&O graphics for WPVI newscasts. Remember 1996 when all of Philly went apeshit over the symphonic version of MCTYW, which lasted five days on the air? Let's hope there are no riots in the streets when WPVI makes a visual refresh.

If they're going to standardize, might it be the music too, except for the open?

Why should a Flat VO matter in this case, isn't the point of the voice-over to clearly introduce the newscast to the viewer? the lack of emotion is important in that case.

You want to have a main Voice actor that you can use across opens, topicals, POPs, and various campaigns. You don't use your main voice for just one thing, like opens.

I don't have any insider info to share, but I have found some parts of the package to be inspired and clean, while others are just bland and clunky. Curious if the complaints mentioned here refer to the graphics or the silly branding decisions (whether they went all-in on losing the numbers or decided to go with two identities in a single logo).

The music is OK, and I like unifying it with the network's "This is CBS" signature, but WCBS barely even uses it -- most opens and many bumpers use the awful "somber church bell" production music.

    KCNC uses just one cut.

The thing that irks me about that is that the set it replaced was only 3(!) years old, and (at least imo), looked newer and more polished. It’s one thing if they were replacing a 10-20 year old set, but to throw away a perfectly functional set after only 3 years? What a waste.

KDVR didn’t need to replace their set; they needed to replace the (metaphorical) revolving door of talent.

And even their previous set was only about 6 years old. They keep replacing sets like that is going to improve ratings.

Honestly, Byron Grandy needs to be fired. He and Joan Barrett haven't a clue what they are doing.

This is what you would expect for a market of this size. This isn't what you'd expect for Denver... Yet that is exactly what we got and it looks like crap.

Sorry I'm not a fan of those graphics at all.. They look cheesy and dated

Like most affiliates, creative services are no longer a priority. You have one underpaid artist doing all the work for Sinclair San Antonio. You're not going to get great work.

  9. RE the  Altitude/Rockies deal, the Montforts would be signing their own death warrants. The Rockies have chronically sucked because they refuse to invest in the team, although they'll spend so much money on the Coors Field. If they sign their rights with the Altitude (Kroenke Sports and Entertainment) the Waltons (of which the Kroenke family are members) will put pressure on the MLB to acquire the team. At that point, all Denver teams will be control by the Waltons.

Also, please keep in mind that the Waltons will be posturing soon too move Empower Field out to Aurora Colorado. Denver won't pay for a new one and the Waltons will want one.

    Watching the evening news today…

They changed the anchor positions on the set…now seated in the middle as originally designed on the circa 1998 set with the original big “9” logo in blue. Tosses to sports now have a 3 shot. My guess is this is the pre temporary set look while they redesign the rest of the space; the set already has plenty of blue for the traditional temp look.

The pre show tease no longer has live previews by the field reporters like Dan Plante. Just the anchors reading the teases.

A lot less chit chat into breaks and between stories.

Bit of a somber feel if you ask me and not just for the appropriate 9/11 segments.

Story selection and guests are similar to before (still showing the alternative local political voices) although they’re inserting more brief general voiceover stories like public health messages.

This tickles me a little bit. - Is it Nexstar? Is it McKinnon!?

I wonder if they'll keep the mid-2000s Fox News color scheme the site has had for many years.

    1.  They will merge KSWB and KUSI newsrooms and buildings. Be prepared for layoffs.

    2. They'll probably use the Nexstar ABC package.

    3. This is the end of The One and Only. The second to last station to use it and they'll switch to SAM.

As was expected. Overall, no big adjustments in shuffling syndicated fare out of 8-10pm and plugging in CW content, but I do wonder if Nexstar will make any attempts at expanding the in-house news department into non-traditional slots for the area (11am hour, 1-3pm, the 7pm hour). Going up against Good Day and the national morning shows is a tall task, this could provide additional news exposure with no (or just one other newscast) competition.

Given NewsNation, even as lackluster as it is, there will be NN local programing on CW, guaranteed.

I believe game show hosts, news personalities, and sports anchors can continue to work. That's a different contract that is good through 2024. See this link:

    https://www.vogue.com/article/sag-aftra-strike-explainer

HOWEVER...would reality shows be considered "game shows" in this case? Terry Crews may elect to walk out with SAG-AFTRA before the live shows air.

Some news station workers, especially news production staff, are part of SAG-AFTRA and will be walking out. Voice Actors are striking too. I have family striking as both members of WGA and SAG-AFTRA.

Most game shows are union as well. I think things like Survivor and unscripted reality programming are the only shows that really aren't, but it depends on the production houses.
