Except there is zero to be gained by blowing up their lone radio station. Simple as that.
What was to be gained by blowing up WGNAmerica?

A call sign change (which won't happen to begin with) won't change the fact they're stuck with a standalone AM they can't sell, with demos older than dirt.
Have we known Nexstar to make smart decisions: i.e. NewsNation? No.

Let me guess, WGN 720 will be rebranded and called something like WANN for We Are [News Nation] or something equally useless.

Warner Chappell owns the Gari library.
Sure. But it's like saying calling NBC Comcast because they own them.

They are the first to use Warner Chappell music with the package too.. This was a very well deserved upgrade for KWQC
They are using Gari, not Warner Chappell Production Music.

Subscriptions in a bundled environment where you have to take all the channels regardless if you want them or not. Which is 100% not what the newspaper industry is. If you don't want to subscribe, you can cancel at ease.
So are you saying that if Fox News was subscription streaming only it would equate?

Bad comparison. Fox News is subsidized by retransmission fees. A newspaper is wholly reliant on subscriptions and advertising revenue, and most right-wingers are distrustful of newspapers to begin with.
Retransmission fees are subscriptions.

Hardly anything since Fox News gets away with literally everything.

One of their reporters posted this sneak peak on social media yesterday to mark KPRC’s 75th birthday. I realize it’s not done yet, but it’s kinda … underwhelming. Too much gray. As of now, at least, it’s a big step down from the not-very-old set it’ll be replacing. Also … based upon the multiple boxes, please tell me they’re not really ordering some set pieces from Amazon?!?
Looks like classic Erector Set to me.

Thanks to Colorado's pay transparency law, I am shocked at how poor the pay is in the Denver market. KDVR/KWGN also seems to be at the bottom of the pack, at least from what I've seen of producer pay. I don't think Denver is really a destination market anymore for most people in this industry.
That is true. Though, I'd argue it never was.

KDVR / KFCT (FOX31) & KWGN (Colorado's Own Channel 2) employees that work the combined assignment desk & the Nexstar master control hub for a dozen Nexstar TV stations across the country intend to unionize according to an article posted on the station's website yesterday. If this comes to pass they would be the 2nd & 3rd Denver TV stations to Unionize after KCNC "CBS NEWS Colorado" went union in late 1995 after being acquired by Group W/CBS. I also have this up on my blog about Denver TV stations that can be found in my profile.
Article here:https://kdvr.com/news/local/nexstar-workers-in-denver-declare-intent-to-unionize/
The difference is that KCNC doesn't have a master control at the station and the assignment desk only works for 1 station. Trying to cover news for 2 stations and hub master control for multiple stations, while Perry takes any profit from KDVR|KWGN, KXRM|KXTU, and KREX|KFQX and shovels it into the DOA NewsNation while you're not able to mean the minimum cost of living would piss anyone off.
Per the KDVR article:
QuoteCurrent job postings show the pay for some of those who are petitioning to unionize. Master control workers at Nexstar’s hub start at $19.23 an hour, while part-time production technicians start at $17.29 an hour. A newscast director is offered a range of $52,000-$65,000 based on experience.
And ironically, per another article from KDVR - https://kdvr.com/news/local/have-things-become-more-expensive-in-denver/ :
QuoteIn Denver, the price for a house is down very slightly from 2022, from $648,187 to $642,294. Rent, however, is up slightly, from $1,809 in 2022 to 1,869 in 2023.

I really like the overall lower thirds/OTS/boxes/etc (though there are some questionable choices in certain aspects). You can really tell a lot of thought went into making this into a comprehensive package where everything works with everything else. The in-show graphics remind me a lot of the original NewsNation graphics and the ABC O&O package being rolled out.
But... and I know this is a tough pill for some to swallow, but the 3D stuff ruins it. They look like they came from a graphics package that debut 12 years ago. The opens being a bunch of 3D text and logos flying around with no reason is completely out of place in this package where everything else is designed with some thought and order. It honestly looks like they debut a mashed up old and new graphics package. Did two different firms work on this or something? Did they change course halfway through and not want to pay to redo the opens and interstitial stuff? The very first transition out of black and into the show in that WAXN video seems like it "fits" better. You can have some 3D, but stuff like the logos flying in and the letters twirling around has been a news graphics cliche for at least the past decade (where it should have been left.)
I suspect that the L3s and the flat elements were created by the inhouse team and the tired 3D stuff (which isn't tired because it's 3D, but because it brings nothing new to the table), is probably from something like videohive. No one said that Apollo was going to invest significant resources in a hub. They are a PE Firm, intent on strip-mining as many assets as possible, local stations included.

I’m not an expert on affiliation renewals or the processes involved with them, but I really don’t think logo removals are an indicator of much. I feel like if 81 stations were suddenly going to change affiliation, we’d know about it by now.
If I had to guess, perhaps Gray wants to push local branding to distinguish local stations from the networks. Keep in mind that many of Gray’s CBS affiliates have also dropped the network logo, and former O&O WTVG has dropped their network logo as well. Unless proven otherwise, I don’t really think there are any immediate implications surrounding those branding changes.
This has more to do with the latter and with the direction that studios are viewing the streaming landscape.

This also means "This is the Place" is running on three Western Slope stations if KFQX is still simulcasting some KDVR newscasts.
And it's used at KKTV as well. So, This is the Place is used across the whole state. Also it will soon be the package KDVR has used the longest. Lastly, KCNC and KUSA are the only stations in Colorado not using a Stephen Arnold Music package.

While a refresh was somewhat needed, this feels more like a mockup of a design you'd find on this forum than something worthy of cable news. I mean, it's not bad... but... it's not really all that good either? Of course, I'm commenting having only seen just this one screenshot...
Wait. Are you saying that the mockups that you find on this forum aren't worthy of cable news!?

Yep. The viewers don't matter.

Makes sense, however, have you read or heard anything else, or just using the evidence we've seen so far?
Also, if they were prepping for a sale, wouldn't they have kept the anchors, which is part of the value of each stations image with the public.
In the short of it, they want their balance sheets to show lower operating costs than revenue so it boosts interest from perspective buyers. This is what Meredith did before they sold to Gray. If debt equity is high, this other method will be the most attractive things to Wall Street.
You're pointing out the single largest problem with having large-scale station ownership. They have no connection to the community they serve or local values. They only care about finances. You are right that these are part of the value of the station images with the public, but the finances are far abstracted from that. No one is looking or cares. It's all about the balance sheet at the end of the day.

Hearing a number of Scripps stations are pre- recording newscast to air later. WFTS in Tampa is only airing live newscasts at 6am,9am, 5and 6pm. I know the station has struggled for a long time but it’s a top 15 market. Scripps has also let go GMs at least 6 stations.
Web person forgot to change all the titles, everyone is a reporter or “senior reporter.”
Scripps is prepping a sale.

Exactly. Well, as you know in technology, acronyms have multiple meanings. Subscription Streaming Service in this context. FAST is Free Ad-supported Streaming Television.

My mistake. I really should have written "linear channel" instead of "cable channel".
Cable is linear... Do you mean Broadcast vs Cable? You compare Linear to OTT. You compare FAST to SSS.

Honestly, I won't be surprised and will laugh hysterically when this has consistently better ratings than News Nation.

Has there been any pattern (geographic, prior ownership) to which stations are getting the new graphics? Also, is the Meredith package an option for stations as well?
GrayOne is the package going forward. No options. All stations will eventually use it.
