  1. Does David Muir even anchor WNT anymore? I watch KABC’s 6pm show and switch over to NBC Nightly News at 6:30. I always chuckle because the anchors “toss” it to David Muir who seems to rarely be there and WNT at 6:30 is really a rebroadcast, so I’m always surprised they don’t seem to know whose in the anchor chair or not. NNN ends sooner than WNT and I flip it back to KABC to watch Jeopardy. I caught the closing of WNT and Llamas said he’d be back again tomorrow. And I agree with above, WNT’s story preview at the top is waaaaay too long.

  2. Dave was back on KCAL tonight, serving “political analyst.” I know he was in during the special coverage of the DNC at 7 and was just in for a segment at 9. Pat Harvey mentioned he’ll be back again throughout the week.  Good to see him back.

  3. I feel like the CBS duopoly is the weakest newsroom in the market with KTTV just behind them.  Other than Fritz’s recent “retirement” KNBC has been pretty stable. Most of the anchors at KABC have been there for a very long time, I hope they’re all able to stay around a bit longer.

    As to @Roadrunner’s points above:

    1.     It does seem as though Phillip was pushed off the morning show, but when he’s solo anchored the midday show, sometimes for two hours straight, I feel like he’s proven he’s top notch.  I never watched Eyewitness News on weekday mornings, but, from the lineup, it does seem like a chick fest.  As for Jovanna, I’m glad she’s finally got the weekends off again.  Regarding their new reporting roles, they’re fronting a series of reports called “ABC7 Solutions,” which in my opinion are a step above GA reporting. From the few I’ve seen, most feel like a same day package pieced by a producer; a couple have felt like some real time and work went into them.  What surprises me the most about their new role is how long their at the station. They anchor the 11 am show, and sometimes are reporting at 6 pm. I feel like that would be annoying as they’re pretty anchor heavy in the evenings with Colleen, David, Ellen, Marc and Michelle.  Surprisingly Jovanna has been filling in for Ellen at 4 this week; generally Colleen would.

    2.     When it was announced Fritz was leaving KNBC, I wondered how much longer will Dallas be around?  I feel like Danny would get Dallas’ spot, and it seems logical that he would, but something about him is annoying; I really like Jonathan Novack; he’s a meteorologist, funny and a sharp dresser.  As I mentioned above, I don’t watch Eyewitness News weekday mornings, mostly because their traffic report sucks. I can’t believe they still don’t have a dedicated traffic reporter in the mornings; Scott’s hits in Air 7 don’t cut it at all.  KTLA and Ginger Chan offer a much more comprehensive report.  I forgot about Leslie Lopez. If she’s the weekday morning weatherwoman, is Brianna (great on the eyes btw) the traffic reporter?! I wonder what the lineup will be if/when Leslie comes back.  Speaking of coming back, what’s the deal with Kimi Evans? She hasn’t been on the air in months, like easily six months. I feel like I previously read something about a medical leave. I’m not complaining because I always found her annoying af, but she was a lot better than Alex; speaking of whom, has anyone noticed he wears the same mis-matched suit every. single. day.  Black jacket, blue pants (with some kind of stain - iron/heat or otherwise on his upper left thigh) white shirt and tie - he at least rotates the tie.  I almost feel like, in an effort to save money, once Dallas leaves, blow it all up. Put a three-day forecast up as their going to commercial and call it a day.  We all have phones, no one gives af about the almanac, we all know there’s generally coastal fog/marine layer in the morning, warmer in the afternoons; the IE and Valleys are about 10-15 degrees warmer than the basin; dry and hot. This isn’t Midwest or South with deadly tornados, nor’easters, tropical storms, etc moving in. Maybe a seasonal forecaster January to April? Even Fritz said it on his way out, just look at your weather app haha.

  4. CBSLA needs to get someone in that helicopter for their portion at night.  Their coverage of pursuits suck.  Last night one of the anchors said the suspect was going south when he was in fact on an east/west freeway.  Then another fool said the guy was in Orange County when he was at the 91/710 interchange.  They’re a joke rn.

  5. Oh, I almost forgot.  I tuned into KTTV after KABC signed off at midnight just to see what their coverage was like. I hadn’t watched a broadcast on that channel in years and was totally impressed by Elex (in studio) and Christine (in newsroom) and Bobby D in the field. Btw, what I loved more than anything were their graphics.  It seems most stations still have things centered on the screen, whereas KTTV took up the entire width which looked at lot cleaner versus cramming everything into a smaller, centered space.  At the end of their coverage, Elex mentioned Laura Diaz, Phil Schuman and Christina Gonzalez; I'd forgotten about all of them, but glad Laura is still around.

  6. I was watching KABC yesterday and thought they did a terrific job.  Ellen Leyva was on from about 3:30 until midnight, initially with Veronica Miracle and then later with Marc Brown. The latter team was great, both strong anchors with market experience.  They had Carlos Grande and Leanne Suter I the field both of whom are strong.  I’m glad they had Chris Christie in Air 7. I briefly checked in with KCBS to see who was anchoring coverage and was irritated they didn’t have anyone available to them; that’s unacceptable in this market. Chris Christie provided eyewitness details and told us exactly what was happening and where; KCBS couldn’t do that.  I was bummed however when KABC ended coverage at midnight as looting was still occurring on Melrose.  I felt with their deep lineup of anchors and reporters, they could’ve had additional live coverage from midnight on with a new, fresh team until John and Rachel came in for their regularly scheduled 5 am show.

Right now, I tuned in to watch “The Last Dance” which was correctly preempted last night, but KABC is live with David Ono and Veronica Miracle. Now that the National Guard is in town, hopefully things aren’t out of control as it was yesterday.

Supposedly from my Helicopter list, FOX 11 and KCBS/KCAL share the same helicopter.  FOX11 has a reporter up in the morning and KCBS/KCAL reporter in the PM.  KCBS/KCAL just take images in mornings and KTTV gets images in the PM.

    That’s my understanding as well.

  8. When KCBS/KCAL moved to Studio City, both stations had separate sets and studios. KCAL shares its studio with the Sports Central set. I’ve noticed for the past several weeks however, KCAL’s broadcasts are originating from the KCBS set and studio, and Sports Central has been broadcasting from the City National Bank plaza in downtown. Is CBS building a new set for KCAL, or are they using the studio for something else?
