1. Not putting a double standard for conservative. Joy has said she'll back Hilary. Paula is a journalist at ABC News and will most likely stay neutral. Whoopi seems undecided but at least has communicated what she wants in a candidate. I haven't seen Michelle or Raven that much so I'm not sure where they are leaning. I don't remember Sunny or Sara backing anyone, but I don't think it would be appropriate for them since they appear on ABC News programs. I might be a little too critical of Candace, she is afterall an actress for an upcoming show and has something on the line, so she's is treading on being more neutral just like a journalist. Overall, she's gotten better, but I'm guessing it's all about gelling with the right people, and she seems better when Raven and Michelle aren't there.
2. Well, I would say at this point one should have some top candidates on their radar, especially if you are on an opinion show. Clearly, she has said that Trump does not appeal to her, but she doesn't really elaborate if she can back the other Republican candidates. But I guess that's the election cycle, Trump has trumped the Republican party at this point. It just doesn't seem like she's done her homework and looked at the other candidates. If Trump isn't her candidate, are there qualities that appeal to her that she can see from the others that are running? As a viewer, I expect more insight from her, but it just seems like she a deer in the headlights when it comes to anything political; Nicolle would have given more insight and substance on the Republican field. I haven't been watching this show daily, so please correct me if Candace has backed other candidates, it just seems like she's been sticking to the bullet points that she's been prepped with.
3. Yeah, I would have preferred Deborah over Paula had they needed someone from ABC News to join the lineup at the beginning of this season. I don't think this type of show fits Candace's (like how I predicted months ago) and Paula's (tries too hard to play devil's advocate) personalities, they seem to be a little bland. Ever since the whole viral debacle with Raven this summer, Candace has played it pretty safe. Both Paula and Candace are likable, but I don't think they have contributed much to the discussions, Candace especially seems selective on the topics; she may be religious and conservative and offers a different insight but she lacks the political knowledge needed to excel for the show...she still doesn't know which candidates she's interested in for the election. I feel like this is another transitional year for this show, the show is very lucky that FabLife tanked this season, that helped The View get renewed that's for sure. They need to find the right talent configuration (and the frequent appearances of Sunny and Sara pretty much spells out where the show is heading), IMHO The Talk currently has a better panel of hosts that seem very comfortable and close with each other.
4. DailyMail has been pretty accurate with reporting all things The View, so I wouldn't be that surprised if the network wants Whoopi out by next season. For me, Whoopi seems to be performing somewhat better than last season, she seems less angry but there are those occasional topics that make it seem like her opinion is the right opinion still. I feel like Michelle and Raven were initially hired to balance last year's panel (Whoopi, Rosie Perez, and Nicole), as they were able to add more youngness and fluff to the discussion, and the chemistry of all five of them really worked as evidenced by the late spring and summer showings. I just wished they gave Nicole and Rosie P. another chance to grow, both were actually grew by the end of last season. Unfortunately, ABC News dumped Nicole and Rosie P. and gave their own reasons why last season didn't work out for them. At the start of this season, it was said that Joy was going to be more of a recurring host once Candace finishes filming Fuller House, but it seems like Joy will be full-time now. The current season lacks stability and it seems like Raven and Michelle are on their way out, seems like the network will just simply honor their contract and replace them with Sonny (who was announced yesterday that she is now part of the ABC News Legal Correspondent and Analyst) and Sarah Haines (who was pretty much baptized as part of The View family yesterday). Both ladies would be an upgrade as both seem more authentic and more well rounded than Raven and Michelle were. And whatever happened to the six contributors? Weren't they supposed to fill-in once in a while. I don't think I've even Molly Simms back since last summer. If Whoopi leaves, do you think it's Joy's place to become moderator, or will the network search for someone else (O'Donnell, Meredith Vierra, or etc.)?
5. I wonder if Scripps will be betting big on The List, they're shopping it in syndication from the looks of it too.
6. Neither of them should have left but both left for greed thinking that they would be happy in greener pastures, but things didn't pan out for them. There's really no place for Sam at ABC, Ginger and Rob have been holding down the fort in the weather department. Sam could try on knocking on the doors at CBS perhaps or perhaps chill with his other morning buddy Chris Cuomo at CNN. As for Josh, it seems like he was betting that he would be Matt's successor or at least have more presence on the NBC morning program, but obviously Today is still Matt's turf and domain and the cast has decided to support each other in solidarity after that much talked about failed reboot last year; things seemed to have gone sour with Josh ever since that incident. In the NBC Sports side, Bob Costas is still going strong and I don't think he'll be retiring anytime soon; I'm a little confused as to why Josh didn't score his own program on NBCSN. I would say that Josh has more of a chance going back to the Alphabet network, but not that much since ABC is already well equipped with talent; if The View sinks even further this season, then perhaps the network could potentially consider him as some sort of talent for that alternative panel show that they are developing as a replacement for the show.
7. The real life ABC soap opera continues, talk about getting dragged in the mud. I agree with you @A3N , this has been a really petty fiasco that exploded without any significant reason. I just don't see the whole justification for this scandal, the cohosts were not directly mocking nurses during that particular discussion; but it just seems like people just hear what they want to hear and have decided that they would like to stay bitter. Through Facebook comments, I've read that some people have forgiven the show since they did that segment about nurses this morning, but the majority of these Mean Girls seem to have no mercy. I feel like we're experiencing a realtime case study of social media's mob lynching with this whole situation. Overall, ABC and the show should have buried the hatchet earlier on. It's obvious from a PR standpoint that the show should have invited Miss Colorado a couple days after this incident happened. It shouldn't have been that hard to book her, she just appeared on an ABC special a couple nights before and seems to have time to appear on television elsewhere. I do wonder if they tried booking her and Miss Colorado turned her back on such an idea; since this whole thing happened, she's appeared on Ellen and won money and she'll be flying to NYC to appear on the Dr. Oz show where she'll be part of a one hour nursing appreciation special. It's probably dark times at the halls of The View, you gotta wonder what the executives are thinking, is the show even salvageable after five conglomerates have decided to suspend their advertising to the show? I wonder if that replacement panel show would be ready by midseason at this point, they probably have created their backup plans by now if The View crumbles the next few months. The show does have the likes of Molly Simms, Stacey London and Sherri Shepherd waiting in the wings, but I highly doubt any of these ladies will be able to save the show at this point if they were to kick one of the main co-hosts to the curve. The only way I feel the show would heal would be if Miss Colorado actually guest hosted for a week on the table doing Hot Topics and if she also conducts segments about nurses for a week long special, then perhaps by then the show will having some grace left...but I really highly doubt that this would really happen, unless they're waiting to do this by sweeps.
8. Oh, I meant to say HIPPA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act), hopefully Miss Colorado got some sort of consent from the patient.
9. For me, I don't see what the problem was either. From what I remembered from that episode, Michelle was the only lady on the panel who saw parts of the Miss America program. The narrative of that particular discussion was more about the criticism that pageants are still alive and the ladies believed that beauty pageants are an antiquated way of socially judging young ladies in general. Seems like the media took part of the soundbite and made it explode and it hit a nerve with those of the nursing profession. From what I perceive, seems like Joy did not watch the pageant but was simply questioning Miss Colorado's attire, which Joy has the right to question and I don't see how that would be seen as offensive. As for Michelle, she was questioning how different this particular talent performance was and was simply questioning if a career/profession monologue is appropriate for an entertainment program. If anything, shouldn't we be complaining to OSHA that Miss Colorado is publicly sharing private information that goes against patient confidentiality? Of course we're not, she's a pretty, innocent young lady who deserves better. #NursesUnite
10. I do feel like both Raven and Michelle are still sticking out and both need improvement. I wonder if the producers are prepping Michelle to insert jokes and ask the funny questions; the whole Kanye question during the Trump phone interview was unnecessary and added no value to the segment, she needs to use better judgment with using her comedian card during the right times. As for Raven, I always thought that they could have done better if they were looking for a young panelist; I don't think she's respectful and she just doesn't seem authentic when she interacts with people of different backgrounds. She was talking to Ciara today and she just seemed fake when they were talking about celibacy. Both Raven and Michelle do well with anything current about pop-culture, which seems like the main reason they hired both since Nicolle/Rosie Perez/Whoopi are of the older demographic. With all their political discussions this past week, Nicolle is sorely missed, she would have given a more tough and more articulate perspective against Trump. ABC News made a bad decision with letting her go, she was of value to the show. I see that NBC News has been utilizing her talents at various places, she was used as a "Republican Strategist" during a segment yesterday on a local NBC evening newscast. I wish her luck and would be interested to see if her role will expand on MSNBC or NBC News. Glad to see Sherri again, it's ironic that they've got ahold of Joy and Sherri again; Candace pretty much holds Elisabeth's role if you ask me, which means none of them should have gotten cut and this backtracking shows that they've realized that they made the wrong decision two years ago. Overall, Whoopi just seems too loud and too dominant and seems to shut out Paula when she tries to give out her view. I'm still waiting for Paula to come out of her shell, she needs to be more assertive but she does shy away from anything naughty and sexual that comes out from Raven/Whoopi/Michelle. It's great to see Joy back. We haven't had much of Candace and wonder if she'll actually last, I just don't see her committing to the show long-term I'm sorry to say, her family lives in the West Coast, this arrangement is so inconvenient and impractical if you ask me... ABC, just admit that cutting Elisabeth was a bad decision and invite her back...or let's bring back Nicolle! As for the set, I feel like it's a downgrade. None of the new elements complements the design of the set. I'm not into their screen background, which looks like a mess, same thing with the duratran-like screens on each side of the large television screen. Too much color going on and it looks too busy for my eyesight, I actually preferred last season's color combinations of blues and oranges. I'm also not into their two on-air logo versions that they've used for "The Political View" segments in the past week. I feel like they could have used better couches and table pieces as well.
11. I think the problem is the state of WNT and perhaps ABC News in general, it's not seen a serious show anymore with all the fluff and pop it has going on right now. Lester Holt just seems to have more gravitas since he is older than David, so I can understand why people would flock to his newscast. I don't know if I would really take that article too seriously, David seems to be a very nice guy on-air. You gotta be competitive in the tv news biz though, so there might be a little frustration from the halls of WNT. The commercials for the 20/20 Pope special made the program seem like a fluff piece, a program that would only be of interest to those of a religious/Catholic background, I don't think the program would have appealed to a broad audience, especially if you don't ask the Pope the tough and critical questions -- like the Church's future, which would be too touchy/controversial feature in a one-hour special anyways. The special was more of a taped townhall special, which can be quite boring as I feel like those types of programs are well edited and rehearsed. The Vatican obviously went on the safe route in order to proclaim the Pope's visit to America, they are not going to have the Pope talk openly about Church reforming.
12. It's very interesting and perhaps very telling that Whoopi isn't actually saying or appearing in the actual promos with the new cast. By this time last year, we had the whole cast talking well about each other and they also published a cast photo of all of them together. This year? Whoopi is missing and the full cast photo wasn't ready for media distribution. Perhaps Whoopi is just taking an extended vacation or could it be something else? Drama on The View continues? I don't know why Lifetime hasn't produced a mini-series for "The Unauthorized Story of the View" yet, there's 19 years of juicy subplots to choose from. I did notice that Whoopi has changed since she began on the show all those years ago. She used to be so much better, I feel like she may be burned out from appearing on the show. With the death of her brother and other close friends/mentors, backstage stressors, network exec nipping and her health challenges of getting older, the gig might be getting to be too much for her to handle... a combination of those elements could exhaust anyone, so I can sympathize with her, but she's hurting the show creatively. Like the whole Bill Cosby situation, she wanted to censor and avoid any reference to allegations; the whole segment with Dan Abrams teaching her about the legal issues of the case seems to be ABC News' desire to extinguish the backlash that she and the show got, seemed like she was going through the motions and was forced to perform that segment. I chuckled at this video because this seemed more like a memorial to remember Whoopi, I also found it interesting to see that there were no soundbites from Joy: I do like those social media videos though as a whole, other than seeing no Whoopi, my only other complaint is the generic background they used, it seems like they filmed their interviews at the JCPenny portrait studio. As for Rosie O'Donnell, ABC would be foolish if they don't think about recruiting her for at least limited appearances. Two words: Donald Trump. Have her appear during a segment of Hot Topics on Friday and let her speak her mind about Trump and the upcoming elections. The show would get so much buzz again if there was a media meltdown battle between her and Trump on a weekly basis. Even with her 'cray-cray' tendencies, there's no denying that Rosie O'Donnell is quite a professional in the live television realm, she's quick, witty and articulate when needed. During this past season, she performed best when Whoopi was away, she was more open and more lively. If Whoopi is leaving, they should consider giving the moderator keys to her. Meredith would be an interesting choice to come back, she's very likable and I think viewers would welcome her back with open arms. I do wonder about her contract with NBC News, I really doubt that they would let her double-dip and appear regularly/limitedly on a competitor's program, but I'm pretty sure NBC canned her show; the O&Os are already planning Harry Connick's entrance to their daytime lineup. Yeah, I liked the original 2014 theme, but I'm guessing audience polling told ABC News that the theme was old and tired. As for the set, I hope they make it more intimate and cozy, I found the white to be too sterile. In addition to a bigger table, I'm thinking that they will actually get matching chairs that Whoopi would approve to sit on. It will be very interesting to see what happens to this show in the coming weeks, it's either going to be taken out of life support or it will being getting it's last rites.
13. I'm siding with y'all, seems like a last ditch effort to get The View back from the brink. I think Nicolle Wallace and Rosie Perez found their footing by the end of their run and really fit well with Raven, Michelle and Whoopi (it would have been a great panel had they all continued into the new tv season together) but unfortunately for them ABC News has other plans. I think Nicolle would have been a great asset this season, with all the political issues from both domestic and international going about, it's a real pity -- just check out The View's social media and see how much support she has had from both liberals and conservatives. It was nice to see someone who wasn't a comedian or in showbiz, she just seemed more relatable to the regular viewer. Bad call from out-of-touch tv execs. I would say that the new cast will most likely be a joy to watch though. Glad Joy is back, she should have never left. Candace seems to be feeling the void left by Elisabeth, the conservative Christian; which will probably bring back the Evangelical audience and the religious perspective that the show has been lacking and vitally needed. I would say that Candace will most likely not be as political as people may think, unless she plans to study talking points more closely and do research ahead of time, she had difficulty articulating which Republican candidates she'd vote for and doubt she wants to be known as a Fox News wannabe. Paula I'm curious about, cause she hasn't done anything interesting when she has guest hosted on The View, but with her prior sports anchoring experiences and journalistic expertise, she'll hopefully make the show more rounded since she's also a mother and she has brought her own Christian experiences to the table too. A couple articles I've read makes me ponder where the fate of the show will land. According to the Daily Mail, Whoopi was left in the dark about Joy's return and that a feud might be boiling between the two. In her contract which ends this season, Whoopi contractually works Mon.-Thurs. and has strongly decided she will not work Fridays. ABC News has assigned Joy as the head host on Fridays. The interesting tidbit from the Daily Mail was that ABC has been testing a replacement show with two males hosts and to females. And according to Radar, Rosie O'Donnell is planning to appear again on the show...so perhaps this might be Whoopi's last season if the show survives since I doubt she would want to work with her again. I do remember Rosie said on-air that she'll leave the door open to come back, so perhaps third times a charm? haha Overall, seems like the revamp would work on paper, but I find it really disjointed with the unknown factors of Candace and Paula mixed in, with Whoopi wanting out, and ambiguity of how effective the part-time contributors will come about -- I'm just very skeptical about the execution. They needed stability and would have preferred Nicolle and Rosie Perez continuing. Will be interesting to see how this one will turnout by Spring.
14. Matt seems to be well liked inside NBC News, this is probably one of the reasons why they halted the planned reboot last year -- he was strongly against it and the right people listened to his wishes (it pays to have friends in the right places). I feel like you're right about NBC News, they are in the midst of rebooting MSNBC right now and I doubt that are actually thinking about replacing Matt on the Today show, which isn't doing that bad anyways. They probably believe that they have some momentum to fully overtake GMA, which is debatable. I'm not really a fan the current state of GMA (which has become a QVC, MTV's TRL, Inside Edition and Entertainment Tonight all-in-one) but I still marvel how they are still on top, I think there's a perceived notion that GMA's cast has better chemistry than Today's. Personally, I don't think Matt ever fully recovered from the awkward Ann Curry incident, which pretty much hurt his public persona, there needs to a an eventual shake-up, but it's not happening anytime soon.
15. We stay classy down here in San Diego. haha It seems like SD6 and KUSI are competing to see who can have the oldest set, I've surrendered that I'll probably never see a new set from either station in my lifetime.
16. I'd prefer Willie as the heir, he's quite likable has the right personalty to bring a much needed freshness to the show.
17. I guess they are going for a vintage look perhaps? Their new promos have shown close-ups of one of their rotten mic flags, as if they were proud to show that their equipment has weathered the Southern California drought, how versatile they are!
18. A new package would have been nice or at least some sort of refresh perhaps; their CNN-esqued L3 always looked too busy for me.
19. What's up with their graphic department? They used an old cast photo for Right This Minute:rolleyes: (two of their original on-air talent left within the past year), it's rather cringeworthy for the lack of attention to detail. You just need 10 seconds to do a simple online research to find out who is currently on the show.
20. I'm guessing they're looking for a different vibe. Interesting that Dan and Cristin are leaving, they've been really great assets to the station since they came to SD. I could totally see either Anne or Ariel doing the Live Center. I wonder if they already have a plan to hire someone to replace Cristin or promote someone from within.
21. Looks like Anne State will be co-hosting The Now, she'll be joined by The List correspondent Ariel Wesler. And they've hired another additional reporter, Jessica Chen from Time Warner Cable News in NYC. So many hirings going on at that station.
22. Do you think The Now will premiere next month? I have yet to see anything about the program, 10-4 San Diego was promoted quite heavily for at least the last month before they lost Oprah. Perhaps they will premiere the show quietly without much pep and treat it as a simple 4pm newscast with just the mandatory inclusion of The Now branding to please E.W. Scripps. The station has always been slow with updating their branding, it's been bothering me for the last couple years since they moved onto their new set that they still have the old ABC glossy logo on front of their main desk television panel -- is it quite a bother to have that changed to the new version? I'd volunteer for free to come in and intern to help them out with that. (this coming from a recent college grad who wants to start his big boy job somewhere ) Other than their Facebook and Instagram usernames, are they starting to refer to themselves as ABC 10 News elsewhere?
23. Renee Nelson will be the morning Live Center anchor: Anne State could fit as an anchor for The Now, she knows the San Diego scene well and could articulately host the hour; if so, I wonder if they plan to pair her up.
24. Oh that's unfortunate, I didn't realized she left. I would agree with you then that the position will most likely be catering to both areas most likely. As for The Now, it would make the most logical sense if they paired Dan Haggerty and Itica Milanes since they are already there anyways for the evening newscasts, I guess we'll see what happens. I just hope that it's more innovative than just recapping investigative stories though. As for KGTV as a whole, I feel like they are in a better place compared to the last few years of the McGraw Hill ownership (cutbacks, top talent leaving, on-air protests from the union, 10-4 San Diego, etc.).
