1. I always found it odd that FiOS 1 never launched in NYC proper, only in LI, NJ, and LoHud. I know NY1 is king, but it seems to be a major competitive disadvantage. I wonder who Verizon will contract this out to - certainly not NBC or ABC, but I wonder if some link to an Oath Media property would be at play.
2. I agree here - if you're reliant on traffic reports in the morning, WCBS-AM, 1010 WINS, or even KTU would be better sources than TV News. If anything, I think there should be more of an emphasis on transit coverage, given how skewed the market is towards public transportation.
3. It looks much improved, I always thought that the lighting in the previous studio was much better, despite it being smaller.
4. I've seen promos for it with Stefan Holt, it's a 7pm livestream on YouTube.
5. Rehearsals began last week apparently, there are some unremarkable progress pics in the set thread.
6. While looking for WCBS-related set progress pics, I saw a picture which shows how Studio 47 has been dismantled: Before: After: I wonder if they'll expand the newsroom, or add a new studio? It'd be nice for CBSN to work with a more traditional studio.
7. I watched WNYW for the first time in ages, and one thing stood out to me: the picture quality is absolutely horrible! The studio cameras honestly look like 480p, all grainy and edged sharpened. I know they broadcast in 720p so it would look a little softer, but even WABC looks better. What gives?
8. All true, just seems wasteful. Hopefully they can repurpose it somehow.
9. I noticed the meteorologists aren't really using the video wall anymore, just using the green screen. Only took two weeks!
10. Ah, that makes a lot of sense! I'm just impressed that 3A has remained attractive over the past 9 years, compared to CBS News over the same period. MSNBC has long held the most cohesive visual identity in cable news, so I guess the current phase of studio limbo just seems especially awkward, relatively speaking.
11. I just can't piece together the logic of mothballing the beautiful 3A newsroom for the already dated 4th floor newsroom, and then several months later seemingly abandon that for a weird simulation of the 4th floor in a modified WNBC set...The only thing I can think of is possibly Nightly News moving up to 4th?
12. What are they going to do with the brand new 4th Floor studio? Seems odd to have a set duplicating a real set that's upstairs? Dennis Degan has shared some pics of the renovated set on Flickr:
13. Looks like MSNBC Live is coming from 3C!
14. Oy that's incredibly tacky.... Looks inspired by ITV News:
15. Oh I agree it deserves its own thread! Just thought that would be in the main New York subforum
16. I don't know why the main discussion of the new WNBC studio is down in the "Sets and Studio" subforum, so I figured I'd post pics of the set in progress here as well, for those who don't visit down there:
17. I think it's a good move, I find it absurd that most of the networks go to taped programming at 11pm ET/8pm PT.
18. Is it me or has the rear projection screen on their set gotten awfully dim?
19. Is "Daytime Jeopardy" in addition to the 7pm airing, or is something else going in that slot?
20. It might be because of the Top of the Rock fire a few days ago?
