  6. If they're smart, they are choose the latter. The media (both digital/OTA) business model is dead.
  7. Sadly I knew this would eventually be happening with the Tribune buyouts (and Vince Condella retiring last year.) Long-time WITI Sports Director Tom Pipines is retiring next month. What a great run for a great guy! http://fox6now.com/2017/01/05/tom-pipines-is-retiring-after-32-years-at-witi-tom-is-not-just-a-great-sports-anchor-he-is-a-great-guy/
  8. It could be a good fixer upper for Hearst or Graham also.. add: the signal is also a major cause of the lack of ratings/revenue. raycom should make effects to the switch DTV channels or if not, swap with wuab, but they're cheap and probably will never happen unless the stations were to have a new owner.
  9. From the "it ain't broke, don't fix it" file: Here is a news open from 1998 (yes, 1998) from flagship CTV station CFTO in Toronto. This was after CTV bought the Baton stations. This was only a few months after they rebranded as CFTO News from the NightBeat/World Beat brand with the set/image that dates back to 1988 but before the first incarnation of the Leak look/"big screen" set that was unveiled by winter (not 1999 as previously stated), from the looks of Rewind Eats The Tapes' clips. There is a few clips that channel from Citytv and Global: From the look of the two clips, they switched to the Paul Hoffert theme/graphics the same time as CP24 launched (in 1998) and not 1997, as I previously thought.
  10. Finally some good PR from Reserve Square...
  11. just like it was when they first brought it with the Hometeam debacle..
  12. looks like Raycom's getting ready to the cash register. always thought woio had potential, but raycheap always seems to find a way to screw themselves. (even though there have been some bright spots over the years.) it's been troubled ever since they merged with wuab and mistakenly dumped the management team that led wuab's original ten o'clock news into a market leader, even worse after raycom ate more than they can chew with malrite and started cuts. too bad scripps just can't get it's act together again with wews.i remember ted henry saying in his retirement speech that 5 will be one of only two news departments left in cleveland (with the other possibly fox8?) in a couple years time because of its structure.
  13. http://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2016/12/15/out-he-door-in-cleveland Others were cut as well per FTVLive. Starting to wonder if this the beginning of Raycom selling out or a potentially pulling a Hawaii/Toledo and merge news operations (with maybe 3 or 5) within the next few years? If so, poor Jason Nicholas.
  14. aka another Raycom budget cut
  15. The KNOE 98 theme sounds like Arnold to me...
  16. Another one has bite the dust at WOIO...Today is Catherine Bosley's last day via her FB page.
  17. FTVLive first reported on WGRZ morning anchor John Beard's disappearance ("sick day"). http://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2016/10/31/anchor-m-i-a-in-buffalo http://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2016/11/1/shaving-their-beard-in-buffalo Now the station announced that he is leaving in two months to go back to LA. http://buffalonews.com/2016/11/01/ch-2-morning-anchor-beard-leaving-two-months/
  18. Another WEWS #FAIL. #yougetwhatyoupayfor
  19. Cleveland.com profile on WOIO's new ND http://www.cleveland.com/tv-blog/index.ssf/2016/10/erik_schrader_settling_in_as_new_general_manager_at_channel_19_and_channel_43.html
  20. To be said, from all accounts I've heard WGBA had lots of potential and was growing audience is first few years (1995-99, especially when late WISC legend Tedd McConnell was there and built the department from scratch.), once Jay Zollar jumped to WLUK, combined with short-sighted moves by predecessors in both the later Aries and Journal era (Remember the infamous financial and ratings mess when Journal bought them and tried the tabloid route with John Shelby as ND in the mid-00's.), their image with the community (advertisers and viewers) was destroyed. It was been a very tough last decade for them (Larry McCarren's stint was a good first step), but it looks Scripps, along with new ND Julie Moravchik have the most progress so far in rehabilitating NBC26's image in the community and making it respectful once again after it was badly damaged (and almost burned to the ground) by Journal.
