Regarding Mississippi State: I am presently a student, finishing my degree in Meteorology (broadcast). Probably one of the best programs in the nation. Most on-air meteorologists are graduates (in some form or another) of MSU. The professors are really good...the cirriculum itself is very strong and you will learn an incredible amount in your last two years when you get into your major classes. The broadcast section is top-notch. The current instructor, Renny, is a graduate of MSU and worked in Kansas City before coming back to teach. After he got here, the department purchased an brand new WeatherCentral graphics suite for the "Practicum in Broadcast Meteorology" courses. We also have a full studio set-up with two cameras, chromakey and desk set-up, full editing suite and control room. The great thing about it is students are allowed access to the entire set-up outside class hours. You could literally go in at 5am in the morning and practice if you so chose. The only drawback is that Starkville is, literally, in the middle of nowhere. 3-hours from Memphis, 2.5 from Jackson, MS and Birmingham, AL. 4.5 hours from New Orleans, 4.5-5 from Nashville. It's a small-ish town (about 22,000 full-time residents) but we have an 8-screen theatre, wal-mart (natch) and most fast food and chain restaurants and a good number of locally-owned outlets as well. If you are serious about studying Meteorology and going into broadcasting with your degree, I highly recommend MS State.
