  1. I want to talk about Graphics for a second because with the NBC-affiliated Hearst stations updating theirs for Super Bowl LII and the Winter Olympics, I'm curious to see what the five NBC stations in West Palm Beach, KC, Milwaukee, Green Bay, and Tulsa plan to do with Their gfx.

  2. Another article mentioned that AZA moved back to their previous WPMF-CD in November 2017. WSVN apparently stopped airing Estrella back in July on their subchannel (it's on a light bulb with the calls WVFW-CD right now), but nobody actually noticed until just now they carry Light TV. Which just shows how these new subchannel networks carrying the same six MGM shows are getting no buzz to speak of.

Which brings up an interesting, yet disappointing IMO, observation, why is it that Buzzr is in Tampa, Orlando, Jacksonville, And Gainesville, but not Miami? Seriously? No Buzzr in a big city like Miami, while smaller cities get to enjoy it?

  3. . Anchors and reporters are saying "News 3" now. Expect a big change soon.

I hope that involves the hiring of a well-known Voice Over, like either Bill Ratner, or maybe Scott Chapin.

  4. I have an idea for a new syndicated show... the UK game show import Fifteen to One from John M. Lewis and introduced by William G. Stewart on Channel 4! A half-hour syndicated show seen on weekdays.

Whoa! Not so fast. Those sort of shows cost one's life savings. Although, if I could put a game show into syndication, it would be, an call me crazy, 1000 Heartbeats, and it IS an adaptation of the UK counterpart. I know, they're going to "American-ize" it. But IF this was my show, I'd not only go to every measure possible to stop THAT from happening. Also, and call me even crazier, but this would be a daily SIXTY-Minute strip for syndication.

Unfortunately, that is really if money Wasn't an issue, and I don't exactly see game shows returning to syndication for another year or so. Even worse, we could see fewer syndie shows in due time and more news, especially on TMJ 4, where they will likely bring back the news at 3.

  5. NBC's jockeying for an O&O in Boston? This could get interesting. From what I've gathered Mr. Ansin is not likely to sell anytime soon...

Perhaps then, the CBS duopoly of WBZ and WSBK could split into two, and 'BZ could be an NBC affiliate again, only this time, as an NBC O&O. IMO, it would Somewhat make sense as currently, John Pleisse is the VoiceOver for WBZ and WSBK. I guess then, WHDH would be a MNTV affiliate.

Wow, not sure where to go from here.

  6. That brings up kind of a side question: are there any Scripps stations that aren't struggling?

I think WPTV NewsChannel 5 in West Palm Beach, FL has actually been #1 for a very long time.

  7. Well, if you live in West Palm Beach, you might've noticed that WPTV Digital channel 5.2 has changed. Live Well Network on 5.2 was replaced this morning with MeTV. This change happened at 5am today on April 21, 2014. LWN might be seen again in the near future. Perhaps, WPBF might put it on 25.3.

RiP LWN on WPTV 5.2 (9/2/11-4/21/14)

Welcome to MeTV, West Palm Beach.

  8. The Boston Herald has reported that WBZ has fired ND John Verrilli. Unsurprisingly, ratings are believed to be the reason behind the decision. According to the Herald article, WBZ is third (out of 4 stations) in the evening and last in the morning. Assistant ND Sarah Burke has been installed as interim ND.

Would you like to know what I'd like to see out of BZ? VO John Pliesse be replaced by either Scott Chapin or Bill Ratner. Don't get me wrong, Pliesse is fine, but I think Chapin or Ratner could drive in fairly better ratings at BZ, IMO.

  9. I just found three parts of a WBZ Eyewitness News Nightcast for December 2, 1985, courtesy of YouTuber TVNewStand:

Also, WJAR News Channel 10 from Veteran's Day 1998, a Wednesday. This was from when WJAR was an NBC O&O, although IMO, they didn't seem like one. BTW, Media-General owns WJAR today.

  10. I love those Boston vids. It was even nicer to see WBZ's 1982 Evening Magazie open. I wish someone had a clip from 1982 of WBZ promoting the Richard Dawson version of Family Feud.

The Feud originally aired on WNAC (now WHDH) from 1976-1982. Soon after the big three played musical chairs with it. WBZ from 82-83 and WCVB from 83-84. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Boston dropped the Feud completely in the 1984-85 season. Did they?
