Kinda curious to know if the trouble involving Ellen herself is why her show moved to mornings. Also, I Still can’t stand the narrator since the 2020-21 season of hot bench, Christopher Thomas. I miss Rino Romano.

In Philadelphia, ABC O&O WPVI has dropped their Laff broadcast on 6.3 and replaced it with “this”, while also adding a 6.4 for what I believe is the first time to carry QVC. Maybe WPPX will be gaining Newsy soon now that QVC has found a new Philly OTA home. Here’s hoping!

In fact, five other ABC O&Os have replaced Laff with thisTv. Only KTRK and KFSN still carry Laff on .3’s.

3. Getting back to WSFL, I hope their morning news has the vibe like the Good Day format that can be found on most of the Fox O&O’s. You know I actually find it appalling that Miami has only one English language choice for local news from 7-9am, Hard News, and no other alternative. Apparently, to me, WBFS and pre-Scripps WSFL were not willing to compete and provide an English language lighter option. If WBFS were to have one, of course it would be from WFOR.

I mean, imagine living in Miami, raising children waiting to go to school, and it was around 7:30am. You want to watch local news in English. Unfortunately, you’re stuck with the compelling newscast that is Today in Florida on WSVN. This is why I’m hopeful that WSFL in ‘21 will provide audiences with a lighter alternative from 7-10am, along with the 4-7am portion, of course.

And for something completely different....

Is Tegna's WTSP getting a new logo?  Noticed a different design on their YT channel.

Website hasn't changed though. Looks like KGTV circa 1970's/80s.

NewWTSP.jpg

Reminds me of what Rhode Island's WJAR used in the mid-1980's.

Sad part is, no more Andy Griffith. Ellen moves to 9 am. And 2 Wants to Know just becomes a regular 5:30 newscast.

Thank goodness I don’t live in the Triad. How dare WFMY move Ellen to mornings. I hope it returns to afternoons soon. I wish they’d considered moving it to WXII if WFMY didn’t want it in the afternoons. Not to be heartless, but this is the holiday season, and unless Ellen was losing in the afternoons in Greensboro, or she opened her mouth to something, that is horrible.

Looking at the guide, next Monday (12/2), as they're going to debut a new local 4pm show entitled Four2Five, WFMY will be dropping its 7am portion of the Good Morning Show to air CBS This Morning in-pattern from 7-9am. Ellen moves from 4pm to 9am.

One would have to wonder what kind of ratings Ellen has been getting in Greensboro, NC. I’d have to assume they’re not good enough with this kind of downgrade.

I suspect the Ansin family will sell when Ed dies and it will be to FOX - both in Miami and Boston. Would be really interesting to see if they're handled with kid gloves as an O&O.

I sincerely Doubt Sunbeam will sell their stations after Ansin. I’m sure that the estate will own them. Sunbeam Will Live On.

Meanwhile in Hampton Roads, there are two departures: weekend morning meteorologist Crystal Harper is leaving WVEC this coming Sunday and traffic reporter Kristen Crowley is leaving WTKR next week.

I’ve never been to the Hampton Roads, but I remember reading two years ago about Crystal Harper and her battle with cancer. I must say how proud I am of her for surviving, and her departure is sad because I feel she really captured the hearts of the Hampton Roads. Good Luck with her future endeavors.

WCVB also used that campaign "The One to Turn To" with the same animation for the logo! I remember seeing it on a demo reel, but I can't find it on YouTube. Anyone knows who composed that jingle?

I think this was exclusively for ABC affiliates at the time, go to 2:23 in the following video and see a number of ABC stations that used it:

This is how successful it was... it was a half-hour at 3:00 p.m. in August. By November, just 3 months after launch, its now a full hour by adding an extra half-hour at 3:30 p.m.

In other words, 3:00-6:30 p.m., just like WBBH.

Well, based on its success, it looks like the days of Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! on Local 10 appear to be numbered, as it wouldn’t surprise me if they were to introduce news at 7 and 7:30 on that station. If both shows Do have to move, I sure hope that they end up on a station Other than WSVN. I’m a big fan of both shows.

11. Hearst too takes advantage of its subchannels to air more news.

• Me-TV is on and all have 10:00 p.m. ET/9:00 p.m. CT news except WAPT, WDSU, WVTM and WYFF:
• KETV (.2)
• KOCO (.2)
• WAPT (.2)
• WCVB (.2)
• WMUR (.2)
• WLKY (.2; with 7:00 a.m. morning news too)
• KCCI (.2)
• WBAL (.2)
• WDSU (.2)
• WGAL (.2)
• WLWT (.2)
• WPTZ (.3)
• WVTM (.2)
• WYFF (.2)

[*]The CW is on and has 10:00 p.m. ET/9:00 p.m. CT news:

• KHBS (.2) / KHOG (.2; with morning and weekend 5:00 p.m. news too)

[*]CozI TV is on and has 7:00 p.m. news there:

• WTAE (.2)

This post was just to make a point... Hearst uses its subchannels to its advantage to air more local news. You don't see other groups doing this.

WPBF is, I believe a Rare example of a station to Not have a newscast on a sister station, nor subchannel. EstrellaTV is on 25.2 and the Justice Network on 25.3, but I don’t think either subchannel Has a newscast in English or Spanish, so I say there’s always room for expansion.

12. From Mayra, The 3pm show will be a half hour. J! is moving to 1pm. Millonaire at 1:30. IE stays at 3:30pm.

Poor Alex Trebek. Are Jeopardy’ ratings in Houston Really that bad? Ever since 2008, KHOU and now KTRK seem to have been alienating J! fans alike. In 2008, when the Doctors premiered, J! got bumped to 11:45pm, then after Oprah ended her talk show, KHOU moved it to 4:30pm until 2015 when it introduced a newscast at that time, and that in turn moved J! to KTRK at 3pm, But now it is downgraded yet again to 1pm. Does Houston Really Hate Jeopardy!

13. I’ve heard rumblings some of the TV stations are going on the block too... so if more folks are retired it could be to slim down those stations before a sale.

I doubt that would include WPTV because after all, they’ve been #1 forever. As for some of the rest, if God forbid They end up on the block, I can easily see Raycom show interest. Just Don’t mention the conglomerate that I’d like to remain nameless.
