  1. Here in Atlanta (and just speculating):

WAGA will slot Sherri Shepherd at 11:00 am, and as I said on our Discord: Since they turned her down in favor of a local show with Portia Bruner at 1:00 pm, WXIA will likely take Jennifer Hudson at 3:00.

Portia's show will be a half-hour, leaving 1:30 pm open; I can see Pictionary filling that slot while keeping You Bet Your Life at midnight.

The other stations' statuses remain unknown for now.

  2. First, they signed the OG queen of Atlanta, Monica Kaufman Pearson; now, they’re dropping The 700 Club and Dr. Oz for news at 9:00 am and another half hour at 3:00 pm? Whatever it takes for WGCL to beat Good Day Atlanta/Kelly and Ryan and Judge Judy/Tamron Hall/Dr. Phil, I’m all for it!

What would they put at 7? A newscast? Would they get Inside Edition from WXIA?

Inside Edition's now on WPCH at 10:00 pm; and besides, WXIA and WSB already had it some years ago (as well as WAGA and WGCL).

  4. Gray's first order of business after acquiring WGCL/WPCH (among the other Meredith stations) was to get a legendary local name, and Monica Pearson was it.

As for WSB? I think the recent death of their lead female anchor Jovita Moore (Don Farmer, Justin's dad who anchored alongside Monica in the '80s and '90s, died this past spring) in addition to the cost-cutting at Apollo is already hurting them, and that will be reflected in the ratings. Expect WAGA and WGCL to fight it out for #1, with WSB cutting their 6:00 news to a half-hour (so that Atlantans would be flipping between ABC World News Tonight, NBC Nightly News, and CBS Evening News at 6:30) and WSB Tonight becoming the Action News Nightbeat once again; in addition, I could see Richard Belcher finally hanging it up after nearly 50 years.

If it already happened in New Orleans (with WWL relinquishing their longtime #1 status to WVUE, now WGCL's sister station), it could here.

  5. ATLANTA: They just ran the promo, but WAGA found a time slot for Jay Leno’s You Bet Your Life: Midnight, bumping Extra to 12:30 and moving the TMZ repeat to 2:30 am after Access Hollywood (they previously had the 1980 version with Buddy Hackett; WXIA carried Bill Cosby’s in 1992).

Other than that (besides WPCH picking up Young Sheldon and Nick Cannon’s talker), everything else remains status quo on ‘AGA, WSB, WXIA, and WGCL; dunno about WATL and WUPA.

  6. Meanwhile...Former lead anchor Joe Vigil is now at KVVU in Las Vegas; Melissa Frey also joined from KTVA and is now KTUU/KAUU Chief Meteorologist (Jackie Purcell is still the Senior Met, but has reduced her role), while Megan Mazurek is still on the GCI payroll, now as Contributions and Senior Events Manager.

I think Byron Allen should step in and buy KTVA and make it a news-intensive independent.

So are they ditching the stupid names for newscasts and going back to “news at 11”?

Right; Morning Rush and Up Late are simply "Morning News" and "News at 11" respectively.

Now if WSB can drop that stupid "WSB Tonight" and call their late news the "Nightbeat" once again...

I read about this yesterday at here on TVNewsCheck and I thought it was interesting that it mentioned WAGA at 4:30 was "#1 in its time period." I know AJC showed WSB is (...or could be 'was' now) leading overall (in the demos) at the 4PM hour back in the beginning weeks of the pandemic, and I don't know if the TVNC article meant WAGA was #1 in total households or 25-54, but either way, it shows great promise for WAGA to become an even stronger competitor in traditional WSB territory.

And now that three of the four Atlanta stations will have news at 4:00, it’s safe to say that WXIA won’t be sacrificing Ellen DeGeneres ever (or even moving her to WATL), as she’s been doing very well despite the recent troubles.

The expansion also means Judge Judy now at 3:00 and 3:30, with Divorce Court now at 2:30 am (after Access Hollywood).

You're probably right, because I looked at the TV schedules for Election Day, and CBC, CTV, and Global are actually broadcasting US election coverage on their broadcast networks.

    • CBC: The CBC TV network will be obliterating their primetime schedule on all stations on Tuesday Nov 3. starting at 8 PM ET/5PM PT. Their coverage will go through the night all the way to 6 AM local time on each CBC station, to make way for the local morning simulcast with CBC Radio One, and children's programming at 7 AM.

    • CTV: The main CTV network will also be pre-empting a majority of its primetime schedule. Their news special is scheduled to start at 8 PM ET/5PM PT, except on CTV Edmonton and Calgary where the news special will start at 7 PM MT after the local 6 PM news. Their broadcast is also scheduled to end at 11 PM ET/8PM PT, where the eastern CTV stations are scheduled to air the CTV National News and CTV Local News afterwards. The western CTV stations (BC/AB/SK/MB) are scheduled to air random Big Bang Theory/Goldbergs/Jann repeats until CTV News starts at 11 PM local time. I would guess that if the situation warrants, all those programs will be pre-empted by the news special.

    • Global: The Global TV network will not be airing a news special during primetime; they are scheduled to air "Solo: A Star Wars Story" at 8PM local/7PM CT, followed by local news at 11 PM/10PM CT.  However, Global News is airing a news special immediately after the late local news, and is currently scheduled to go until 2:35 AM ET/12:35 AM MT across most the network (it may go past that if the situation warrants).
      • Global News at 11 is being extended to 1 hour on Global's eastern stations just for this evening, as Late Night with Stephen Colbert will not run at its usual 11:35 PM timeslot. So the news special will air at 12 AM AT on Global Halifax/NB, and 12 AM ET on Global Toronto/Ontario/Montreal. All other stations in AB, SK, and MB will air the special at 12 AM MT (Alberta), 11 PM CT (Sask/MB).
      • Global BC /Okanagan is not scheduled to air the special according to the TV guides, but if the election is still developing, Global BC might join the show in progress.

CityTV and the independents (CHCH, CHEK, etc.) will probably have regular programming (on CHCH, it’s the movie The Ides of March), though I’m sure they’ll have updates throughout the night followed by their local news, which may be extended to an hour for additional election coverage.

WGCL/CBS46 has either tied with 11ALIVE or beating them. There alot of things 46 can do to overtake 11 in other time slots. Karyn been in the market since 1988 for over 30 years,

And while we’re sticking with WGCL: Chief Meteorologist Jennifer Valdez announced live on her Facebook Monday that she’s going to be working evenings and nights (4:00, 5:00, 6:00, 9:00 (WPCH), and 11:00) effective immediately rather than days and evenings.

Burns, Chandley, and Holcomb better brace themselves!

  11. The March 17, 1998 edition of "E! News", which has been canceled after almost 30 years (and gone through many, many hosts from Steve Kmetko to Ryan Seacrest to Maria Menounos):

  12. KTVA now independent after 66 years with CBS?! Maybe they could expand their news output, including the addition of a noon news and an hourlong 9:00 pm news (they would easily beat KTBY).

In Fairbanks, I can see KTVF going back to CBS, KFXF taking NBC, and KXDF becoming MyNetwork TV.

  13. 1998: KCOY anchor Don Strickland apparently had some problems with the stories not being cued up:

(By the way...Strickland was lead anchor and news director at ABC Alaska in spring 1996; unfortunately, he failed to make any dent in the ratings against KTVA and of course the 800-pound gorilla that was (and still is) KTUU and by the fall, he was back in California)

  14. And the last time CBS This Morning used the Ed Sullivan Theater was in 1995 while David Letterman took his "Late Show" to London for a week; my friend Craig was in New York that very same time and he brought back with me some pics including a couple with Harry Smith and Paula Zahn (Mark McEwen was in London).

Dave and his gang returned to the States to learn that Connie Chung got the boot at CBS.
