1. One of two options: the Dalek Desk or the WISH-TV Special.
2. Former WREG-TV weather and sports personality Johnny Dougherty, aka Johnny Dark, has passed away at the age of 75. https://wreg.com/2019/03/11/former-wreg-personality-johnny-dark-dies/
3. The station's GM issued a statement earlier today: https://www.wcbi.com/wcbi-statement-following-columbus-tornado/
4. This is nothing new. If I remember correctly, Kristen Tallent (former anchor/reporter at WHBQ) also works with SCS as a public information officer these days in addition to her work as a spokesperson for a couple of local businesses in the city.
5. The one right underneath KTVX's fuzzy mic flag.
6. And yet, she came from a TEGNA station that was competing against a Sinclair-owned station in Seattle before getting hired by the Smith Empire to compete against her now-former employer in DC. This should be fun.
7. And yet, the final version WDIV wound up using was butchered enough to where it no longer looked like the same package Renderon pitched to them. Even WBRZ's former look was a recycled package that turned out to be an improvement over Scripps' first standardized look back in the mid-2000s.
8. Or they could wind up with WVEC's old set if they didn't already throw the whole thing in the trash.
9. In terms of graphics and music, those are definite. In terms of sets, not right away as WTOL's existing one is only a couple of years old, and KWES is more likely to receive a hand-me-down set than a Jack Morton/PDG design.
10. Par for the course. This doesn't surprise me at all at this point.
11. When did PBS NewsHour get cut down to a 30-minute program? The buck definitely stops with Andy Lack and how he has handled the scandals at NBC News. It may be time for him to go before long.
12. The graphics are an improvement. Looks like a mashup of the Tribune and former TEGNA looks. For now, of course.
13. I know Nashville has the largest population and TV market (DMA 28) in the state, but Knoxville and Chattanooga are still well behind Memphis in terms of size (although Knoxville is currently 61st DMA-wise compared to Memphis, which is hovering around the 50s at the moment).
14. I haven't seen Byron Day in years since his days at WHBQ, so I was surprised to see him pop up over at WALA-TV recently.
15. Just throwing it out there, but what if TEGNA had an interest in getting the KAKEland cluster?
16. You're not the only one who feels that way. The level of toxicity in our politics today is at a level that has not been seen in a very long time. Fox News, for its part, has been fanning the flames on this even before Trump came into power. It has now become the new normal.
17. Here are a couple of old clips from when Maury Povich was a news anchor (well before he got his own talk show): WTTG 1985: WNYW 1989:
18. This was likely related to a shooting that happened nearby at the Shoppes of Bel-Air that same night. WKRG's studios are right across the street from there.
19. WHBQ's Kristin Leigh is moving to WSOC in Charlotte: Former KOLR sports anchor/reporter Megan Rice was recently hired by WREG to fill a hole in their sports department following Glenn Carver's retirement in February. Her first day on the job was this past weekend:
20. WHBQ has hired Elisabeth D'Amore as their newest meteorologist at the station (replacing Lindsey Monroe, who is now a meteorologist at WTHR in Indianapolis). She previously worked at WTVM/WXTX in Columbus, GA. Her first day on the job was yesterday.
21. Looking at that now, the poorly-done transitional elements and animation are a dead giveaway of a mock-up compared to the original Linear Drift version.
22. The font choice ruins it. Then again, WSMV bastardized the current NBC O&O graphics, so what else is new.
23. Come on. They're at least doing better than KSHB. Aren't they?
