  1. Former WREG news anchor Pam McKelvy is returning to Memphis television after an 8 year absence, most of which was spent being a full-time mother. McKelvy will officially begin work today as the new 4pm co-anchor at rival station, WMC-TV, alongside Jarvis Greer. Former 4pm co-anchor, Lindsey Brown, was recently moved to the weekday morning shift a few weeks back, where she now shares co-anchor duties with Kym Clark and Andrew Douglas.
  2. Some more sad news to report - this time from the Fox station in Memphis. Longtime WHBQ-TV anchor Ed Craig passed away early Monday morning at the age of 80 after complications with COPD. Craig started his broadcasting career in radio in the 1950s before joining the station in the 60s as a reporter as well as its first weatherman. Eventually, he became one of WHBQ's news anchors during the 70s and 80s until his retirement in 1990. WHBQ story (with video): http://www.myfoxmemphis.com/story/20753512/veteran-channel-13-news-anchor-ed-craig-dies#at_pco=cfd-1.0 We at TVNT give our condolences to the WHBQ-TV family, both past and present, as well as to Craig's family in their time of mourning.
  3. For the record, WPTY stopped using PNP early last year. They have since decided to use no music at all for their newscasts.
  4. I saw both "big announcements", and both of them were disappointments with one of them was just another sweeps gimmick. Dave Brown, who has been in broadcasting for 50 years, will be sticking around at WMC-TV for at least a couple more years even though he's close to retirement age as was mentioned on air, so that was a bummer way to end an otherwise nice tribute to him. WREG, on the other hand, announced a shopping spree at a luxury retailer as the last part of their Prize Box promotion, and included Claudia Barr "showing off" a pair of black Christian Louboutin heels with her hands. I got nothing else to say. :bang:
  5. As it turns out, the big announcement was a major anchor shakeup at WHBQ with the return of Ernie Freeman and the addition of Joey Sulipeck to mornings alongside Valerie Calhoun from 6 to 10AM. Lauren Johnson, Jason Carter (who recently returned to Memphis), and Ed Echols will be doing mornings from 4:30 to 6AM. Greg Coy has been moved to evenings at 5:00 alongside Mearl Purvis (who will still be doing the 5:00 & 9:00 shows), with Darrell Greene now doing the 9:00 & 10:00 newscasts (replacing Freeman). Meteorologist Brian Basham will replace Sulipeck on the nightside shows. Don't know if there will be any changes to the midday newscast. EDIT: No changes were made to the midday newscasts (it only competes with WPTY during the 11:00 hour).
  6. WKRN-TV in Nashville recently hired Samantha Fisher from CNN to take over as co-anchor for the 10:00 newscasts alongside Bob Mueller. Her first night on the air is this evening. http://www.wkrn.com/story/16488423/samantha-fisher
  7. Doesn't WTIC have the same set design as this, if not similar?
  8. WKRN-TV in Nashville is reviving its weekend morning newscasts beginning this Saturday (10/8) with Lauren Murphy, who was recently a reporter at KVVU-TV in Las Vegas, anchoring the new program. The last time WKRN had morning news on the weekends was in 2004, only to be cancelled a few years later. Hopefully their second try will be better than the first one. EDIT: The new weekend morning newscasts on WKRN have apparently been pushed back to next weekend (10/15), likely in tandem with the launch of HD newscasts in the coming week at the station.
  9. More news from Nashville: WSMV has hired KGUN's Ian Reitz as the new co-anchor for Channel 4 News Today alongside Holly Thompson. http://www.wsmv.com/story/15422513 He will be replacing Aaron Solomon, who left the station a few months ago (he now hosts a local sports radio show on WPRT-FM). WSMV reporter Josh Devine has been filling in as co-anchor since then. Reitz will officially take over early next month.
  10. Just a heads up from Nashville: Per their Facebook page, WSMV has posted pictures of their new set, and based on the control room images, they will also be getting the NBC Look C treatment (along with a tweaked logo). Expect a full blown launch of their new look in the coming days.
  11. News from Memphis, TN: WMC-TV will be starting a new 4pm newscast beginning August 22nd (replacing Oprah, which has since ended). Lindsey Brown (from WTOK in Meridian, MS) and Jarvis Greer will be anchoring, and John Bryant will be doing the weather. This is the first time that Greer, who is also the station's sports director, will actually be anchoring a news program, but it's likely that he'll still be doing sports highlights for the 6pm and 10pm news in addition to his new role at WMC-TV.
  12. My first impression when hearing that music made me think someone was attempting to do the "brown noise" on a tuba. Definitely not one of their better opens during that period.

  14. WPTV's new look just screams RenderOn right there. Good for them. Why couldn't WEWS look as good as this?

  16. Looks more like a news open you would see on a low-budget public access channel, and they have the nerve to call themselves a CBS affiliate? :rofl!::rofl!::rofl!::rofl!::rofl!:
