an update on the world's first television station...

WRGB (CBS 6) Schenectady/Albany, NY is moving it's longtime 6:30pm news to 7, and moving the CBS Evening News from 7 PM down to 6:30 PM.

When does this go in effect? Because I don't see any articles or releases. And its guide is not updated to reflect the change.

But a shortened "Cut One" open? I would expect it at the 11:00 pm open where it's used most often, but not in other dayparts...

I mean, as long as MCTYW remains their theme song, it's all well and good, but I'd rather hear the whole 19-second "Cut One" open with the full announce, if it's not the 11pm open.

Announcer: "Action News, Delaware Valley's Leading News Program". And then hear about 12 more seconds of music? That would be 12 seconds of dead time.

Why play the full open when you don't have a permanent Sunday anchor pair? The shortened open is appropriate.

  3. New deal. Cavs will air some of their games over the air.

Five Cavaliers games will air on Gray-owned stations Cleveland's WUAB 43 & Cincinnati's WXIX 19

Gray has also struck a deal with Tegna, Nexstar & Cox Media Group to air some or all five games in nearby markets.

    • In Columbus, Tegna's WBNS will air two games (4/6 & 4/7) on the main signal 10.1, while a third game (3/20) will air on MeTV subchannel 10.2. Nexstar's WCMH will air two games (3/8 & 3/29).
    • In Dayton, Nexstar's WBDT will air three games (3/8, 3/20 & 3/29). CMG's WHIO will air two games (4/6 & 4/7).
    • Nexstar's WTRF Wheeling and WYTV Youngstown will air all five games on their respective MyNet .2 subchannels.
  4. It's an end of an era in Michiana.

Longtime WNDU anchor Terry McFadden is retiring from the station. His final broadcast will be tonight (3/1).

He will be teamed up with his former co-anchor, his sister Maureen (which she retired back in 2019) to anchor this broadcast.

  5. B&C states that WCBS is making a big change to its 6pm broadcast.

Dana Tyler & Dick Brennan will depart from their 6pm anchor roles at the end of March.

Maurice DuBois and Kristine Johnson (who anchors the 5 & 11) will take over the 6pm duties.

ET and Inside Edition will be at 7/7:30pm - the first time the CBS O&O schedule format has ever been used here.

The three CBS O&Os actually air IE at 7 and ET at 7:30.

There's also the matter of whether this replaces ESPN's original plan to offer an expanded standalone streaming service (mixing programming from the ESPN linear networks and ESPN+), and if ESPN/Disney partnering with Fox Corporation and Warner Bros. Discovery (which was done very much on the DL since there were no scoops on this partnership before the announcement) was its way forward to getting a service along those lines off the ground.

From that same article, it seems that the Worldwide Leader is going to follow through with those plans......

The launch of the product will not stop ESPN from offering a full direct-to-consumer streaming product, which Disney is still researching and remains on schedule to debut by 2025, according to a person familiar with the matter. ESPN has previously said it plans on releasing that product this year or next year.

Looks like Gray is trading KGWN in Cheyenne and its other stations for a new station in SLC.

    The paperwork is up.

The stations Gray is trading up for Marquee's KCBU Price, UT:

    • KCWY-DT - Casper, WY
    • KGWN-TV - Cheyenne, WY
    • KSTF - Scottsbluff, NE
    • KNEP - Sidney, NE
    • KCBZ-LD - Casper, WY

    • K16JI-D - Casper, WY

    • K19FX-D - Laramie, WY

    • K28HL-D - Riverton, WY

    • K30GV-D - Shoshoni, WY

The ONLY station in WY Gray is keeping is Sheridan's KSGW. And that's because Marquee already has a unbuilt permit in that COL (KSWY 7).

The problem here is, considering the FCC recently approved an update to its broadcast ownership rules that closed the loophole allowing station operators to put a Big Four network on a multicast channel (including through the acquisition of another station's primary affiliation), Morris might be looking at a fine soon thanks to its decision to move Fox to WCBI-DT2 after the fact.

The updated ownership rules are not in effect yet. The new rules will be in effect 30 days after the order is posted in the Federal Register.

It really is a shame. It's ridiculous. Just plain stupid. There's no reason that the race should be blacked out in the home market. I've been against it for years.

IMS does this so they can "so-call" boost attendance. They want seats to be filled at IMS for the big race.

This "put the race on TV, no one will come to the stands" mantra is so backwards-thinking.  Why you want to hinder the local viewers from watching the race live on TV? NFL use to do this (if there's no sell-out 72 hrs before the game).

  11. A couple of things.

The Weigel's COL switch from Wittenberg to Shawano on RF 31 was greenlighted (1/24).

Now I'm hoping in the future, should a new low power/translator filing window comes about, and if there is a vacant channel available for an LP, Weigel should pursue filing to get an LP repeater to serve the immediate Brown County area. Because I don't think that new RF 31 would be easily reachable for OTA viewers in that area, unless they have a really good antenna.

Also, the Coastal/Red River transaction was greenlighted (1/23). Are we surprised by this?

(Can't wait to see how WDBJ and WWBT do their versions when they launch there.)

WWBT is already using Gray One graphics.

Looks like WECT might be on the way to GrayOne. They recently switched to non-NBC cuts of Inergy and in addition their “Vote 2024” graphic is using a white background associated with the new graphics.

I don't think that "Vote 2024" graphic is from Gray One.

  13. We haven't seen a new petition in a while, but we have one. This time its a joint petition.

Remember a couple of years back Gray's KCBD in Lubbock wanted to get off VHF 11 for UHF 36?

Now, Gray wants to try a different approach. A three-station frequency swap.

In the petition, it states that KJTV's current tube transmitter is failing. And replacement parts are not available. Gray has already bought new equipment for KCBD and will use that for RF 35, instead of RF 36. KJTV would use the transmitter currently used by KLCW on RF 23. And KLCW would move to KCBD's current VHF transmitter on RF 11.

Gray evaluated moving KLCW to RF 36, but it stated that buying equipment for both stations would be "financially infeasible in this smaller market".
