I love KDKA’s newscasts, but it’s time for them to change their mics.  They are still showing the old logo.  Same with KPIX.

KPIX finally updated their mic flags yesterday.

    KABC Los Angeles

-Weather is stacked: Legendary Dallas Raines, Leslie Lopez, Tony Cabrera, Shayla Girardin, and Alex Cheney

it’s interesting that Shayla has been filling in for Lisa Argen on weekend mornings the last 2 weeks at KGO.

Legendary Spencer Christian was doing weather from home a few weeks ago. Must be under the weather.

Frances Dinglasan was filling in for Spencer last week and this weekend.

Drew Tuma pulled overtime the other day doing all newscasts except 11pm which looked taped and still worked Friday morning. I guess they couldn’t get Lisa. Spencer or Frances since Sandyha was out.

Side note: KPIX. We only have 3 person weather team and we’re still surviving 🤣

Thanks for the response. Sounds like KGO has better management than KTRK.

One more question, does KGO ever re-air packages that aired a month or two ago, or even a year or two ago and act like it's something new?

    Not that I’m aware of….

I've been wondering: Do any of your ABC O&O stations not have morning traffic anchors, consumer reporters, and/or investigative reporters? Might sound like an odd question, but KTRK-TV doesn't have any of them.

Also, do any of your stations routinely skip the sports segment on evening broadcasts that are supposed to have them? KTRK does that all time now, and in its place the station just reairs a random piece that air on earlier Eyewitness News broadcast. The Eyewitness Sports team is the smallest it has ever been with a just a sports director, sports producer, and a part-time sports and news anchor/reporter. You'd think that a station would fill all these 'open' positions (though they don't want to hire anyone but an investigative reporter), before hiring a 6th meteorologist.

    KGO is fully staffed

1 morning traffic anchor Jobina Fortson who also does LIVE Desk updates since Alexis Smith left for Seattle years back.

7 On Your Side consumer Michael Finney reporter during the 4,5 and 6pm shows

3 investigative reporters. 1 full time (Dan Noyes)  and 2 (Stephanie Sierra /Melanie Woodrow) that report in the field when not doing investigative reports

3 sports crew. (used to be 4) 2 on air (Larry Biel  and Chris Alvarez) 3rd one (Casey Pratt) is a senior sports producer and will fill in from time to time

5 weatherperson team. (Used to be 6, recently left to KSHB) the 5th one (Frances Dinglasan) is the back up when needed

KICU should’ve really picked up MyNet when Fox made the trade with Cox.

KBCW needs to change its call letters now. Is KBAY available?

Someone posted earlier in the thread that call letters aren’t much of a factor when it comes to affiliation changes.

FOX 5 in SD is still operating as KSWB (San Diego’s WB)

KRON will probably have to get rid of their 8 and 9pm News unless they can air CW from 7-9pm.

WTTA has an 8pm news produced by WALA and Spanish programming from 9-10. Maybe KRON and WTTA could put all that on their .2’s.

Or MyNetwork will go to KICU (KTVU Plus)

KOFY could’ve waited instead of picking up GritTV

im hoping KBCW takes advantage of KRON losing the prime time slot and KBCW will be the KCAL of the Bay Area.

  6. FTVLive, SFGate and of course that “blog” is reporting ex KTVU anchor Frank Somerville arrested again on suspicion of Battery at his parents home in Berkeley.

At least there's only two-three stations (KBCW, WPCW, and maybe WUPA) that ever specifically ID'ed as CW in the calls, so there's not much FCC legwork to do regarding any call changes, and a few like WPSG already have brands like 'Philly 57' that easily adapt to the box (no need to change a call with 'Paramount' in it already).

Just like FOX5 in San Diego. Their call letters are still KSWB (San Diego’s WB)

I wonder if McKinnon bought out the lease other part of their building they're in then and there's a commitment to remodel it in full (the other side was formerly another business).

Aww man, a total downgrade for KSWB when they move.

FOX5 is a 2 story building and well kept, however, KUSI’s building is so dated and falling apart. I remember them saying how the roof is leaking in the center of the studio and different parts of the newsroom.

I hope Nexstar will invest and will bring the building up to date.

If the building is that dilapidated, I suppose they intend to do that if they’re going to be housing two news operations there. I wonder why they won’t be moving KUSI over to KSWB’s building instead.

KSWB’s building doesn’t have enough space for 2 studios. The way their studio is set up was such a unique design during the WB News at Ten era. (I can’t find the website that shows the design and layout)

Basically, it was a hybrid newsroom and corner studio design along with a curved staircase that leads to an upstairs open area with a balcony and a corner office that overlooks downstairs.

right below the upstairs corner office used to be the news director’s office which is now the weather center when the relocated the newsroom into the center of the building.

I did learn from Steve Sosna that there are changes coming to the studio. Steve said there is a nearly $15-$30 million refurbishment of the studio coming (via Kathy Hostetter) as they are working on stepping it up to the CBS News Baltimore brand. They are in fact keeping the Group W 13 as a nostalgic feel to the station.

The Offices and the newsrooms of old are getting redone as well as primary newsroom. Kathy Hostetter said they want to put the studio upgrades in piece by piece.

And they will finally have a "lower third" that works!

I just tried to make the changes on WJZ-TV's wiki page... they said it's not verifiable... ok? How is it not... We saw it for ourselves!!!!!

Looks like they also kept the 13 on the desk. KPIX is the only one in the group to change it to the call letters instead.

PIX, KTLA and WGN to a lesser extent have had free reign on their sets. Will KUSI get the traditional Nexstar set in a corner like big market brother KRON or will they get to do something original. I really like the chill vibe that Fox5SDs set has.

FOX 5’s BDI Set was under the Tribune era. Hopefully after this merger or sale, they won’t bust a KDVR and downgrade.

then again KSWB’s original studio is very small during WB era and relocated the newsroom when they got the 360 set.

I have to assume part of the reason for McKinnon getting out is because of KUSI's physical studio deterioration; with Nexstar in control they can vacate them and have a much more state-of-the-art building with KSWB. I also have to think these talks were happening even before LIV was a factor and Tegna is having second thoughts about the renewal with the decline of syndication being more of a yoke than a complement to 8.1.

    FINALLY A NEW SET 😂

RIP One and Only. Hello Aerial 😒

If I had to guess, WPHL, KQCA, and KRON are almost certain to pick up the CW. Two hours in prime time plus LIVGolf on weekends doesn’t drastically alter the schedules of those stations.

As far as MyNet is concerned, would Fox even bother to look for another affiliate if they lose WPHL? They already don’t have an affiliate in Miami, and it’s not as though MyNet is much of a network anyway.

KRON is already a MyNetwork Affiliate unless KICU (KTVU Plus) picks up the affiliation

I really don’t understand why no one else uses the cuts KPIX uses. This one could slot in for that Enforcer headline bed

KPIX uses all the cuts except the main intro heard on the other stations in the group.

if they didn’t use that tacky 11pm production music for “The Late News,” then that main intro theme / opening cut seen on WCBS would work for 11pm

The closest KPIX can get to using that theme is heard on the opening tease on WCBS before the intro. That cut with the soft ending (:17-:27)  is used for the Noon and 3 closing.

    Right!

    There’s too many CBS 2’s.

4 to be exact in the O&O station group. Hence why they want to give each market a unique and local feel with the call letters since channels don’t mean anything these days with streaming.

This leaves WCBS the only one that kept the CBS 2 in its branding.

Chicago is going the call letter route like KDKA, and KCBS focusing on KCAL instead.

  15. KGO mentioned on the 7am show that they are doing some jackhammering beneath the studio. since KGO and KRON are in the same building, KRON’s studio must be closer to the construction which noise could interfere with the newscast causing them to relocate them into the newsroom.

As of the 8pm show, they are back in studio.
