  1. Disagree. When you have a major storm hitting the area during rush hour - and when Super Bowl visitors are trying to get out of town - the special coverage is warranted. Plus, when there's snow , WNYW Good Day NY normally beats the networks because they're offering local news. So, if you can preempt your network and offer important local news, then why not?
  2. Or "lastnameCBSNY". It conveys CBS New York, and kind of combines WCBS and WLNY.
  3. Pretty cool that they put together that highlight reel of his first broadcast. Thanks for sharing.
  4. They do... just about every medium- and big-market plus network on-air talent have agents.
  5. I wish she did more, too. Diana was great when she was the 6 & 11pm co-anchor years ago with Bill Beutel and later with Bill Ritter. She reportedly asked to move to the 5pm when the opportunity came up so she could be with her family more. Now that both kids are in college, maybe she'll do more.. Although once you get in the routine of being home and in bed at a normal time, you likely don't ask for your old hours back. There was some thought given to pairing her at noon with Lori Stokes back when Steve Bartelstein was fired. They eventually decided to keep things the same and give the noon co-anchor spot to Ken Rosato after he was named morning co-anchor.
  6. Considering Katie is still technically with Disney/ABC, Meredith is likely on holiday vacation, and Ann is eyeing an exit from NBC after the horrendous way she was booted from Today... I would say no.
  7. He usually does some freelance work for WABC during the holidays to help cover for all the vacations taking place.
  8. The web/hashtag bar is gone this morning to accomdate the school closings info. Too bad it likely won't be a permanent thing.. The hashtag is promotable - if it's unique. But I agree promoting @abc7ny would be a better at this point since #EyewitnessNews loops in every conversation from every station with the Eyewitness News name.
  9. What happens when Channel 7 doesn't think things through when introducing new graphic elements? You can see if you tune in right now and watch as the God-awful rotating 7online/#EyewitnessNews bar covers up part of the school closing/delay ticker. What part does it cover? Oh the part saying if school is closed or delayed. PS: who thought that #EyewitnessNews was something unique enough to use as the official Channel 7 hashtag? Anyone who's used it knows it gets lumped in with every other EWN in the country. Why not just make it #7online and make all the social media @7online since that's such a strong brand already?!
  10. There is a talent open, you can find it on YouTube. But like BehindNYNews wrote, they seem to want to get straight to news at 11.
  11. "Health Alert" has been a regular segment on the 11pm news for a few years now.
  12. She's probably a WABC employee now if they added her to the opens. I tried looking for her bio on 7online but it looks like they've rearranged everything. They tried to (unsuccesfully) sort the bios by anchor and weathercaster team then the reporters and sports anchors look at first like they're in order of first name... but then they're not. http://abclocal.go.com/wabc/newsteam
  13. Thanks for sharing.. Would've been cool to see new opens based off this look.
  14. Current logo is fine; I still prefer the former one... And would also prefer that they picked one logo and stuck with it.
  15. ...And the 5:30 open is still the old logo. I wonder is WABC purposely half asses things to annoy us fans?
  16. To the average viewer, the talent opens look the same way today than they did yesterday. If they were going to update things, they should've given everything a refresh. Regardless of the opens needing a refresh or not, though, what I am talking about is brand consistency. They are still using two different logos on their newscasts. The daily "coming up" promos are also using the old logo. The "7" on the newsvan promos is still the old 3Dish "7" not the newer, flat shiny "7".... just some things they need to clean up.
  17. Too bad the bumber graphics still have the old ABC logo. Not sure what the point of spending all that money and time on refreshed opens if they weren't going to refresh the entire package. In my opinion, this was a huge waste.
  18. WABC's looks awful either way because of the time/temp bug on top of the logo. The whole right corner of their screen looks bad right now.
  19. Yup.. The opens will probably look similar to the new station IDs.
  20. I knew once they added the ugly rotating 7online / #EyewitnessNews bar that there would be no graphics update... Why add something new to package unless you plan on sticking with it for a while longer? It's too bad they won't opt for a cleaner look. The giant, oversized, cumbersome graphics really do not go well with the slick opens and modern set. On another note, WABC seems to pick and choose when it will update its entire look vs just updating some elements. The 2011 and 2008 updates included new opens and new graphics. Way back in 1999, the music, opens, and bumper graphics changed but the main graphics stayed the same. Between 1999 and 2008, the opens changed several times while the graphics only changed once.
  21. Might have to do with "Live" prep work beginning at 7am and control room issues. The weekend AM news briefs originate from the studio.
  22. ....And it uses the old ABC7 logo at the end. Maybe one day WABC will decide which logo they will use for everything.
  23. Haven't seen this happen again.. Maybe it was a test of a new format?
  24. That's been around for a few years now.
  25. 7online is also a lot easier for an average viewer to remember than ABC7ny... Same reason why they prefer to use Channel 7 over ABC7.
