  1. Agreed. Also, to the previous poster, let's not forget that Charles Gibson had success with hard news, even leading the broadcast to #1 for a brief period. Hard news works and if the anchor/managing editor embraces it and it's done right, the audience responds well.
  2. I think WNT will drift slight back toward more hard and foreign news. Next week's broadcasts will feature David's reports on the refugee children of Syria forced to support their family by working rather than going to school during the day. I'm hoping that's an indication that he will shed some of the fluff that's been part of the show these last five years.
  3. Here's a nice local promo for World News Tonight with David Muir on his former station, WCVB-TV Boston. http://www.wcvb.com/wcvb-welcomes-david-muir-to-world-news-tonight/27795038#!bMDleD
  4. Because it's just a change in her role at ABC. She's not leaving the network, not retiring, not even semi-retiring. It's also ABC's unofficial nod to the fact that with so many media platforms now available 24/7, the evening news is no longer the top of the pyramid in broadcast news.
  5. I believe so. I tuned out close to 830am and they were still on the air and, at that point, retreated from the newsroom (where they broke in from during the 7:25 EWN Brief) and back to the studio with both Ken and Lori anchoring. And, no, other stations stuck with normal programming. Even FOX 5 covered it as just another news and weather story during GDNY. WABC was back to normal programming during the 9am hour.
  6. They dumped out of Good Morning America after 20 mins this morning to cover the flooding on Long Island.
  7. Looks like they've hired a billboard truck to tout their recent success over WNBC and WNYW. http://www.mediabistro.com/tvspy/wpix-taunts-rival-stations-with-nyc-billboard-truck_b126547#disqus_thread
  8. Haven't seen it on TV yet but judging from the pics it looks great! Reminds me of the last set that Peter anchored from. They should bring back the circular anchor desk, too.
  9. Just want to throw it out there that the current WABC opening, bumper, and closing music turns 15 years old in August... and it still fits perfectly and has a modern sound to it..
  10. NBC was in a tough position here. There is not definitive heir just yet and, if Matt wanted to stay, they would risk having to force out another anchor which would obviously not play well in public. They made a smart decision. Sign him for a few more years, develop a bench with a few possible successors, and just keep trying to get back on top.
  11. So the anchor saying "Still ahead on Eyewitness News..." and the graphic saying "Coming up" doesn't alert you that they're going to commercial? Gimme a break.
  12. Two thumbs up to the AM producers and talent... I also liked when they used to open the show with the entire team at the desk, a la GMA...
  13. The few times I've seen her back on at 11pm subbing for either Liz or Sade, she's been in their seats. For yesterday and today's 6pm show, maybe they're just leaving her in place from 5pm to make it easier for all.
  14. Yes, was just going post about the new topicals also debuting... maybe they will eventually update everything else that has the old logo like the rejoins.
  15. Anyone notice how tight the two anchor shots have been on Ch. 7 lately? Just now at the start of the 5pm w/ Diana & Sade and last night when they closed the 11pm w/ Sade & Rob, the shots were super tight. Also, with daylight savings two weekends ago, it's about time they switch the 4, 5, and 6 backdrop back to daytime instead of the evening shot.
  16. Seems like there's a lot of vacation time being used up this week.. But I loved the combo they made at 6pm tonight!
  17. Sounds like Rob just has a good agent who got him a good contract that gives him more screen time outside of sports.
  18. The promo is now on the ABC7 Facebook page.
  19. I actually enjoyed News 4 at 6pm yesterday. I've always liked Pat and her and David made a great team. I wonder why Pat was never tapped for a weekday spot.. She certainly had this non-NBC4 viewer tuned in and watching instead of my usual Ch. 7 newscasts.
  20. At this point, they are probably doing anything they can to get better ratings than Katie so the 4pm doesn't suffer.
