  1. It sounds like all they are producing is the two minutes of local news that the NewsNet schedule allows for, and the rest of the "newscast" is the NewsNet national feed. Comments from the video: It's really sad that Eric Wotila went from trying to make hyperlocal "24/7" news departments a thing, to creating a service that allows existing local news departments to be destroyed. You either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain, I suppose. I'm sure his ideal for this network was every affiliate launches it's own local news department, but it really seems like the bulk of his affiliates just want a 24/7 news service that they can sell local ads on. I mean, a lot of these stations are the kind that were airing "The Blaze TV" and "Infowars TV" before he came along. Anything to make a buck.
  2. A tour of WPXI's old building a few months after they moved out, before they demolished everything but the transmitter/engineering portion (the video comments actually indicate the new exterior wall was built through one of the old studios)
  3. Everyone has been so caught up with Coronavirus and Tegna speculation that this slipped under the radar. Disney CEO Bob Iger has stepped down (though will continue to serve as Chairman through the end of the year) and he has been replaced with Bob Chapek, who previously served as Chairman of Parks, Experiences, and Products for Disney. https://thewaltdisneycompany.com/bob-chapek-named-chief-executive-officer-of-the-walt-disney-company/ Having moved up from production assistant at ABC, Iger was very strongly connected to the TV side of things. The new guy is not. Chapek comes from a marketing and advertising background, and has bounced around Disney since he joined in 2011, but never with the TV side of the company. Meanwhile, the company is reportedly losing $30 million dollars a day due to park closures and theatrical releases being suspended. Back in 2010, Disney explored spinning off ABC because it didn't "add value" to their other properties, and that was when it was being run by someone who has basically worked for ABC his entire adult life. Now, Disney is rapidly losing market value, and is being run by the guy who was previously in charge of the "other properties". Buckle up, folks. This could get interesting.
  4. They started this last week on Wednesday. It's just the official White House stream (I guess, despite the heavy reliance on CNN Newsource, they don't have the technology to take the Newsource feed) and Remington Hernandez provides a brief (albeit somewhat repetitive and ad-libbed) overview at the end. They're still learning... At about 6:30PM ET, in the middle of the presser, their automation took over and it took them a good 10 or so seconds to get back to the live press conference. In typical NewsNet fashion, these have been coming from their tiny insert studio instead of their main studio, as if their main studio is somehow unavailable or in use during these press conferences.
  5. KTNV used a patriotic variant of the new lower third today, for a special broadcast called "A Thunderbird Thank You". The v.2 graphics continued to be used on today's newscasts.
  6. Those come from the Vanderbilt TV News Archive. The date/time super on the top is a telltale sign. https://tvnews.vanderbilt.edu/
  7. Maybe their agreement with YES includes that YES needs their studio and control room during the midday. Maybe WCBS doesn't want to add additional stress to an already stressful situation for their staff. There are stations out there who strategically do NOT cover things, to provide a place for people to go who don't want to be bombarded with news. For a long time, WDJT wouldn't do breaking news or severe weather coverage unless it was an extraordinary situation. Why? Not only because they knew that three other stations would do it better, but also because they knew that some people might not care and just want to watch something on TV. By NOT covering the situation, they were providing something for people to watch that wasn't the news. They very well may be doing this on purpose, because they're in a situation where they might not be able to offer any decent coverage at noon, and also know that there are, what, five other OTA stations on at the same time that can do better? They're working out of a borrowed studio, homes, and news cars. Give them a break.
  8. Essentially he buys Tegna, shoves his existing stations and properties under it, and lets them do the work while collecting money. That's it. That's his motive. This isn't some grand scheme to shake up Tegna. Same goes for Apollo.
  9. Yes, it is a microwave yagi antenna on a gyroscope that keeps it pointed at the receive site. https://trollsystems.com/airborne-tracking-antennas/skylink-hd-az-el-steerable-high-gain-multi-band-bidirectional-antenna
  10. My contacts say this was a special setup just for this story. All the stations pooled their choppers and shared each others feeds, so there were constant aerials of the cruise ship. One would go to refuel while another took its place. KGO offered to pool their chopper feed if they could use the other pool choppers (N62TV which is the one branded with KTVU livery, and N42SL, a generic news helicopter that seems to have replaced generic shared helicopter N75TV which looks to be in Sacramento right now.) It appears that KGO and KTVU are the only two that have full command of a chopper. The generic one might have some 50/50 shared command between KNTV and KPIX, which explains its lack of branding. I would assume Helicopters Inc knew that KTVU might not want to fly to everything KNTV and KPIX might want aerials of, and offered to let them share a generic chopper in addition to the KTVU share. @rkolsen's helicopter project has uncovered some interesting sharing going on in the market. During the Garlic Festival incident is when the "generic" N75TV chopper was discovered, which all the stations were using, including KGO.
  11. The San Francisco area stations are tag-teaming their choppers to have constant pooled aerials of the Coronavirus cruise ship docked in the harbor. Unfortunately, the CBSN Bay Area TD wasn't paying close attention and this was up for about 15 seconds.
  12. It's owned by Helicopters Inc, and they supposedly already flew in a replacement. They are contractually obligated to provide a helicopter to WTVF, so they will do so until Scripps no longer renews the annual contract. Insurance will pick up whatever Helicopters Inc isn't responsible for, like the camera and transmitter. The vast majority of, if not all, news helicopters are housed at airports. Most stations don't have the land for a hangar and helipad. Most stations also don't want to deal with the permitting to house jet fuel on-site.
  13. I would imagine they are keeping the music for now. They don't want to overwhelm their viewers with too much change, after all. C-Clarity will probably start to creep into the shows little by little.
  14. Well, I'm "just saying" that "the world" is quite commonly mentioned in the radio sphere. 1010 WINS in NYC has been giving us "the world" in 22 minutes since the 60's. Which started while they were under ownership of.... gasp... TVNT fan favorite Westinghouse Broadcasting. Surely a Westinghouse-led marketing gimmick isn't TOO GIMMICKY for TVNT? What's next? The Westinghouse logos? Oh, the humanity!
  15. As I understand it, the set itself is finished. Integration and testing takes time, especially if there's problems. I also understand that the LED wall market is suffering from supply chain issues due to the cornonavirus and it's impacting the install of LED walls globally. It's possible they need a new part that they can't get right now.

    The "3" Thread

Those mugs were sent in years ago and sit in a cabinet in 30 Rock. They probably just have someone go grab one every night, and WKYC never sent in a new one or told them to remove the old one.
  17. WTMJ anchor Tom Durian confirming the change to "TMJ4 News". The "Live at" branding is also going away and newscasts will just be named like "TMJ4 News at 10". It's apparently updated on the various TV Guides and canceled people's automatic recordings as a result.
  18. They have a few. I'm not saying they can't do it, I just can't imagine them actually doing it.
  19. I wouldn't count on this being a long-term thing. Those stations need to migrate off the homemade Tribune CG and video systems eventually, and I highly doubt Scripps will put in the effort to convert those graphics packages to VizRT.
  20. Because it's a remnant of the previous package.
  21. Good riddance. A brand that shouldn't have lasted past 2004.
  22. They weren't using Inergy in their old opens either, so that's not a big surprise.
  23. The outgoing package already uses Proxima Nova. Just heavier weights of it. The new package shifts to the lighter weights.
  24. Not 100% sure, but the blue box in this WTMJ weather graphic vaguely looks like someone took a box from the new package and cranked down the opacity. WTMJ's weather graphics are a hodge podge of random elements, the current Scripps look, and the old Journal look, so it's hard to tell if this is new or just something random that just so happens to look like it.
