  1. Barbara was a legend in broadcasting and was great at interviewing newsmakers. May she R.I.P.

  2. Ratings for cable talk channels in general deserve a massive asterisk. Yes, they (and Fox News in general) have a large audience, but when the bulk of it is over the age of 54, does it even matter? Maybe that’s why FNC only needs direct response ads, because they get hefty retrans fees from cable providers. NewsNation’s continual failure remains on two points: the audience rejected the original intent of a generic prime—time newscast in resounding fashion, and the channel isn’t able to peel away any viewers from Fox News. Scott Jones may call it “Fox News Lite” and call Chris Cuomo “Fredo” (which isn’t even an original insult) but to be honest, no one really cares. Viewing patterns are difficult to break, which isn’t helped by not doing anything to differentiate from the competition.

  3. Viewership must have been low across all news outlets on Christmas weekend. Speaking of NewsNation, I saw a promo on WJW for NN featuring Fredo and O'Reilly. No thanks!

  4. I had seen rumors she was battling dementia some years ago. I’m guessing there were more serious reports on her health the last several days? Several people have referenced reports that this was coming.

  5. Deborah Roberts, Katie Couric and David Muir so far have dialed into ABC’s special report.

  6. She's been really private since 2016 as her last ABC news and possibly public appearance was her contributing to Nancy Reagan's funeral. I've seen speculation that she's been dealing with Dementia or Alzheimer's for several years now. Tuesday's show will be dedicated to her I bet.

  7. Judy Woodruff ended her tenure as anchor and managing editor of the PBS Newshour tonight (Dec. 30). Here is her final broadcast: She will be missed at the anchor desk, but will be looking forward to her special report series America at a Crossroads (as well as Amna Nawaz and Geoff Bennett beginning their tenure).

  8. WESH would generally be the first to roll out new graphics, i.e. since the hub is there and historically, they have been the first. If new graphics do roll out eventually, it starts there.

  9. Here is Phil's send off from the 6pm show. I will miss his style of reporting.

  10. I wouldn't be surprised if Alex goes back to weekday mornings and JC goes back to Weekend mornings. I still think they may (or should) give the 4P back to Patrick. It would make the most sense to reset things, as best they can, back to what they were. Not just their male anchors, but their anchor pairings in general. I don't think they realize (or care) that all the unnecessary upheaval has taken a toll over the years. Hard to keep viewers interested/invested when there's constant change. Hopefully, the next ND/Station Manager will be willing to shake things up a bit. WMAQ has been way too complacent over the years. I miss the days when they were competitive with WLS. These days, they seem happy to just be in 2nd (or 3rd) place.

  11. WCBS 2 1977, I love that New York area TV stations are all releasing archival clips in decent quality.

  12. KNBC Channel 4 News Nightside January 1986 Cued it up at the outro to the Tonight Show with the jazzy music and motion shots of the set. Looks so expansive yet warm and not overwhelming...a lot of that is thoughtful shot placement and framing built into the lines of the set , rather than just the studio size. Every shot of the set has an element that continues up or to the side uninterrupted, giving the illusion of height and depth.

  13. Personally, I wouldn't ever boast about beating taped programming on two nights the NFL buried anything with a (live and on-air and not involving home shopping) pulse, but for NN, I guess beating a taped show about the 'war on Christmas', on Christmas, in a very asterisk-heavy demographic manner, is an achievement in something, something enough to have your classic TV network being forced to acknowledge it on Facebook.

  14. Graphics aside, CBS This Morning was fine especially when it was more hard news oriented. Nora, Gayle, and Charlie were a solid team. All they needed was a solid replacement for Charlie and the anchor line up would've been fine.

  19. There are cities in this market too far away for an over-the-air signal, Cambridge and Athens being among them. I don't know why the Columbus stations don't put up lptv translators and then feed some special content to those distant areas.
