That rule has been relaxed, to where even the downtown/riverfront Aurora and Joliet casinos have inked plans to move near their respective expressways.3 points

Rich DeMuro’s report from this morning is below. The set was built by JHD Group in Los Angeles. Nexstar gave the station the autonomy to pick whatever set designer they wanted. https://ktla.com/morning-news/look-behind-the-scenes-of-ktlas-new-set/amp/?fbclid=PAAaYmDa4L_cJa_ZJiF_ezznNtqGsWpDazhXTe0EOmlVJo17sASr65D7cbaGA3 points

Even tho KTLA is now owned by Nexstar ... they are too good of a station (legacy wise) to have a Nexstar corner set! Very nice set. Great job! -- Matt3 points

I was just going to say the same thing, just based on the fact that none of the stand-ups, right now, are showing any graphic about the story being presented, just the 5 logo. I'm sure once they've gotten more settled in, the screen will be utilized with other graphics as well as the monitors at the other stand-up locations in the studio.2 points

Now if Nexstar wasnt in BILLIONS of dollars in debt, they should have held out and leased the land to Bally for them to build the casino on, but as we saw with the CBS negotiations earlier this year where WJMN was stripped, Uncle Perry isn't a very good poker player...2 points

Based on the studio design renderings of the new WPIX setup, the KTLA set is a precursor of what to expect at WPIX - very similar2 points

This set is freaking amazing! It screams LA and is just beautiful. Well done, Nexstar!2 points

Easily one of the best sets in the nation. It really shines at night with the nighttime backdrop to compliment the warm tones of the set. I’m genuinely impressed.2 points

This set is recycling elements from NewsNation. So I think Clickspring designed this.2 points

Nice masthead above the main desk and use of the '5' branding on the video column, great 'LA neighborhood' shot. Warm woods. It's distinctive, instant classic kind of feel - nice job for a big market Nexstar2 points

I remember reading this on the Discord, but I wouldn’t be surprised if every Nexstar station technically has the autonomy to pick any designer; it’s just that they don’t have the budget to go with a designer like JHD. As much as I’d love for every Nexstar station to have a set that looks as good as KTLA’s, stations that are below market #10 aren’t getting anything too elaborate. We shouldn’t expect them to, either; the money is better spent elsewhere.1 point

It's a rock and a hard place situation though; the Illinois Gaming Board likely requires casino land to be purchased outright and owned (and for some part of it to touch some form of water; even the Des Plaines Rivers casino has stilts with water below its original building), and they've been extremely strict about where casinos in the Chicago area can go and this one will have to be over some water, thus this location (this in-city license was being talked about in the 90s and been under consideration that long).1 point

Changes could be coming to CNN's New Year's Eve coverage. https://variety.com/2022/tv/news/cnn-new-years-eve-coverage-sober-anderson-cooper-1235434694/1 point

Nice setup for sports final - the set has that distinctive Socal feel of the ‘85 KNBC set that lasted so long Also says something someone as skeptical as David Lazarus is excited about a set Agree with C the 2 shot could use editing. The depth and framing that shines in the rest of the set is missing1 point

I don’t think it’s anything groundbreaking, but it looks nice, especially on wide shots. It’s an improvement over the last set. The 2-shot at the anchor desk is the only obvious weakness. There’s absolutely no depth-of-field with just the logo and a sea of blue (with some sort of topography pattern?) They should swap out that graphic with something different.1 point

Given the controversy surrounding this year’s World Cup, broadcasters are bound to be caught between their responsibilities in covering the matches and a journalistic responsibility to cover Qatar’s human rights issues. It appears that Fox’s coverage will not have a strong focus on the human rights aspect of it at all. From Awful Announcing:1 point

Cool tour from the lobby, newsroom and studio entrance. Also, 5pm news team said the set was build locally which speaks to their LA"s Very Own Branding. https://www.instagram.com/reel/ClCjayfAYKk/?igshid=Zjc2ZTc4Nzk=1 point

Looks incredible and breathtaking! Nexstar really came through for KTLA, as they deserve a set much higher-quality than those "desk-in-a-corner" sets they're known for.1 point

With Canada being in the tournament for the first time since 1986, TSN has an on-location presence for the first time; usually they've done the studio segments from their main studio in Toronto (which debuted its current design during the 2015 Women's World Cup). Judging by their preview show, TSN's graphics seem to be an evolution of what they used for 2018, but more gold, black, and navy blue (for 2018 it was more white, red, and gold).1 point

The new set is very beautiful and spacious! I’m glad KTLA is not following some other Nexstar stations and it’s in market #2 so expectations are high.1 point

Honestly think after the runoff they should put Kelly at 3pm instead of back at 10am. Kelly has higher ratings and is a better lead off into the 4pm.1 point

Figured!! This is obviously a corporate issue. CBS Detroit is also still hiring. Any other reason for the delay??1 point

I would not have thought a printing plant sale to fund a television network resulting in a Chicago paper being printed in Milwaukee and Milwaukee paper being printed in Peoria would have been a result of the Tribune/Nexstar merger...but here we are!1 point

As confirmed during a investment firm conference earlier today, Nexstar will use the proceeds -- $155 million of net cash -- from the sale of its Chicago property the Freedom Center (to Bally's for a future billion-dollar casino on the site) to invest in operations of The CW. (The pending sale was already publicly disclosed recently.) https://deadline.com/2022/11/nexstar-cw-investment-funded-by-proceeds-from-sale-chicago-property-casino-1235173891/1 point

to my understanding, the news set and newsroom are practically done or close to being done. I just think CBS is tying a lot of loose ends. I do think the actual debut will be in December, latest in January.1 point

They had a small fire in their Studio A over the past weekend. Not sure of the extent of the damage, but I would assume that’s what is making the desk/3x3/horizontal monitor area unusable right now.1 point

Which explains the new video wall in front of the old 9-pack. The Ocho is probably due for a new Nexstar Corner Set-In-A-Box soon.0 points

Yeah I’m not liking the 2 shot for the exact reasons you mentioned, it’s the one letdown of an otherwise amazing set.0 points
